[ Quest 6: ] Virus Investigation! (Lucille solo)

A villager has left a tip about some form of virus happening to the local minipet wildlife. It is up to you to check it out!

Your character must catch one of the local minipets wandering around. Roll 1d10 and see what phrase you get from the list. Then use the minisglossary to pick a pet with that phrase in it (do not pick SE pets or RE ones!)

1. Tropical
2. Sweet
3. Black
4. White
5. Spooky
6. Cheese
7. Onion
8. War
9. Wish
10. Eyeball

Once they have caught one, they need to carefully examine it to make sure it has no signs of the virus (the symptoms are possibly purple, evil looking, very vicious) then they can let it go. If however, it is purple or shows possible signs of the virus, they should hand it in to the villager. Roll 1d4 to see what the villager gives you for your time.

1. You get nothing. They take the pet and go away.
2. You get a halfhearted thumbs up.
3. The pet bites you as you near away from it! Ouch! Add +2 to your miasma meter.
4. The villager looks at you. He says "they key to the door is 8888." He leaves.

“We have got a quest for you,”

Lucille nodded. She was not surprised. Ever since her arrival, her adventure here has been a continuous series of quests given by the villagers. Right now though, she wondered what would it be about.

“What am I supposed to do now?”

“There is a virus going around…,”

That perked Lucille’s interest. A virus? This was a new lead. No one had ever mentioned a virus up to now. But that would definitely explain the lacklustre feel of the village. Lucille was no doctor but knew a thing or two about bugs.

They tended to spread and if all the villagers had gotten it, wouldn’t she too…

“It’s the minipets,”

“Huh?”

“The minipets are falling sick. We need you to find one and bring it back,” said the villager in a dry tone. “They can be found on the outskirt of the village,”

“Oh…well…alright,” said Lucille looking all at once relieved (that it only affected minipets) and disappointed (that it only affected minipets).

“I’ll just grab the first pet I see then?”

The villager merely nodded.

An hour later and Lucille was seen carrying a rather fluffy creature back into the village. While it may be painted on and accessorized to look fearsome, nothing, nothing could hide the fact that it was fluffy and cute.

The villagers stared.

“What?” asked Lucille defensively. “I-I liked it,”

“It’s covered in blood,”

“What? No way! It’s just red …paint right?” said Lucille, suddenly aware of the expanding circle around her. Come to think of it, the Foxfire had been…twitching and slavering on the side of the path when she had just found it…

“Oh shi-,”

“Get back!” one of the villager yelled but it was too late. At the sound of the cry, the infected minipet turned around and bit Lucille on the hand. When no one seemed to want to approach it, the mini pet leaped off the table and made a run for it.

Only to let out an indignant yelp as a sack was thrown over it. Holding up the wriggling sack, the villager who had caught the infected pet gave a nod to his fellow residents before mysteriously making off with it.

“Where are you taking it?” asked Lucilled as she tried to numb the pain of the bite. “And has anyone got any clean water? Bandages? Antiseptic maybe?”

All Lucille got were silent stare in return.

“I-I would not like to get infected…,” said Lucile in a small voice.

Once again only silence greeted her.

Then one by one, the villagers began to leave. It was as though they had lost interest in her now that they had a rabid pet in their hands. What did they want with a sick minipet anyway? Would the tiny creature be culled?

For a moment the Reaper felt sorry for the tiny furry creature.

Yeah, it was probably going to be culled. That was the normal thing to do with a sick pet. At least that was what her parent had told her. It was the quickest way to stop the bug from spreading.

Still, that left her with a bitten hand and realizing that no help would come, Lucille made her own way towards the pond she had come across earlier. Quickly rinsing her hand in it (lest some dangerous fish decides to take a bite), Lucille then dried her hand on the hem of her dress. The bite wasn’t too deep and there was hardly any bleed. Just a little scratch where the teeth scraped against her skin.

“It could have been worse I guess,” said Lucille to herself.
