Lux was annoyed. Annoyed and angry. And fat. Very fat.
She glared down at her rounded stomach and let out a huff of air, scanning her surroundings. The scorched forest that housed her band of ruthless followers was silent and still. Most were doing perimeter checks to ensure their pregnant leader's safety. Death, her ever-loyal guard, was standing in the same spot she had been all night. Right in front of Lux's pile of skins and furs. Lux briefly wondered if she had moved at all, but she knew the beast had not.
"Death, go be useful," she hissed. "Instead of standing there like an imbecile. Take a walk,"
Death's large skeletal head twitched towards her, and the single golden eye that was in her chest glanced at Lux before staring at the ground. Finally, she moved and slowly started walking through the blackened forest, obviously reluctant to leave her caretaker alone.
"Finally alone," Lux muttered, moving into a more comfortable position. Her eyes narrowed on her stomach once more as a memory fluttered into her mind.

Whiskey laughed as Lux finished telling her story. The two were sprawled out in a clearing. Lux was pouting and playing with the dead mouse she had stomped on for a snack, while Whiskey giggled around her own mouthful of berries.
"I can't believe the raccoon actually did that!" she exclaimed. "I guess he really did deserve those burns,"
She smiled sweetly and nudged at the 'suti's orange locks.
"I actually really like it like this, though. It's definitely different. But maybe it's a time of change,"

The 'suti's frown was quickly wiped away when Whiskey touched her hair. She had been so self-conscious of the drastic change and choppy, wild layers. But if her best friend liked it, then maybe she would learn to like it. Or it would grow back with time.
"A time of change?"
The way Whiskey had said it... Instead of 'time for a change'. It just seemed odd to Lux. She squinted at Whiskey.
"Is there more change I should be worried about?" she asked cautiously as she gently bumped her friend's shoulder.

The dappled mare shyly looked down and avoided her friend's stare. She had been trying to find the right time to tell Lux of the new development, but it hadn't come up. Perhaps now was the time.
"Yes. I mean. Well... not worried! It'll be fine. I think. I hope," she laughed nervously and shook her head to clear out her nerves. She looked up at Lux with a smile.
"You know that you're my best friend right? I... I don't know what I'd do without you, Lux. Especially with Lullaby..." she paused and frowned at the pang of pain and guilt that still struck her when speaking her twin's name. "With my sister leaving... You and Mest are all I have. You're all I need,"
She continued to stutter through her speech. "And I'm going to need you more now than ever before. Because I'm pregnant,"
She nervously switched between staring at the ground and staring at Lux's widening eyes. Lux was the first and only one to know besides the healer that Whiskey had seen. Mest didn't even know yet. He... he hadn't been by to see her in a while, but he was a warrior with a herd to protect. He was busy.
