love letters ♥
Second idea was based off a song called Traveling Soldier by the Dixie Chicks. Basically, a young man meets a beautiful woman at a diner the day before he is supposed to be shipped off to war and asks if he can write her letters because he has no loved ones to write home to. She agrees and through these letters they fall in love.

Propaganda posters appeared on everything from billboards, shop windows and theaters, to buses and streetcars and even matchbox covers. It was an ordinary New York day, only today there was a strange aura of beauty in city that a certain someone was too nettled to take notice of. The dusky street was lit by scattered glowing traffic lights under a dark and rainy sky as pedestrians went on their way, umbrellas in hands. Joseph's shoes splashed in the small puddles of water with each step he took. His hands were dug into the pockets of his pleated trousers and his head was lowered as rain pelted down against him, soaking the back of his neck and his broad shoulders. He hadn't been anticipating a rainstorm when he had left his apartment. Half an hour ago there hadn't been a single cloud in the clear blue sky.
Briefly, the young man stepped aside and took shelter under an overhanging roof and pulled out his packet of cigarettes and matchbox. He dangled one from his lips and lit up before flicking the burning match into a puddle. He closed his eyes and took a long drag, the tip of the cigarette glowing softly as he did so, and slowly exhaled a cloud of grey smoke as it dissipated into the air. He suddenly felt a wave of relaxation hit him and he leaned back against the brick wall, taking another puff. His dull blue eyes were momentariy drawn to a propaganda poster that had been plastered to one of the light poles. Bit by bit the ink was fading away due to the excessive downpour and the corners of the paper were beginning to tear. Two days ago Joseph had enlisted in the army and was instantly accepted as an E-1. He had been absolutely horrified by the newsreel footage of Nazis ransacking Europe and the atrocities in Asia that the Empire of Japan committed in China and Korea, and he felt as though it was his duty to go out and fight for his country. Tomorrow was the day that he would be shipped off to a military camp in New Jersey begin his training as Private Joseph Taggart.
It was when he felt a rumble in his stomach that he realized he hadn't eaten since morning. He glanced around as he finished off the last of his cigarette and spotted a small diner across the street. A faint smiled etched into his features at the sight. Joseph ducked his head and ran through the pouring rain and swung open the door, the chiming of a single bell audible as he did so, and wiped off his shoes on the mat before he found himself a seat at one of the empty corner tables. He pushed a hand through his dripping wet locks and grabbed one of the menus from the side, eyes skimming over his options.

New York was flustered with old cars and people all around the city. The young female had on her plaid dress with an apron on while holding up an umbrella. She was pale as can be with a mole below her eye, red lipstick like she drank a glass of wine and thick black eyeliner like a cat. Having her coconut white umbrella stick out like a sour thumb. Strolling through the streets to make it to her job, the wonderful diner. She adored her job meeting handsome men, talking to females plus just having a good time. Her name was, Angelia, she was close to ending her 20s but everyone believed she was starting. Her feet hopped puddles trying to avoid making her white shoes end up dirty. She just paid for them not so long ago, not thinking it will rain, she wore them till she was leaving her house. In a rush she decided not to change so she can stroll on her way.
Angelia pulled the door hearing the bell, most customers and all her coworkers shouted,"Angel!" She gave her adoring smile.''Oh darlings!~ I missed you all." Her voice was soft and warm. Her closed umbrella implanted its self into the bucket where the workers umbrellas were. Moving to the kitchen she grabbed her note pad, sliding a pen along the pad into the pockets of her apron. Fixing her hair fluffing the bottom she moved out. Seeing most people being attended to,but a young man. Moving to him her dress swished side to side,giving her signature smile before opening her mouth."Hey there sweetie pie, what can I get you?" She asked. Taking out her note pad and pen she kept the smile on her face while allowing him to order."Hm would you like a coffee or tea? Your hair seems damp so that means you have been in the rain for some quite time. Needing something warm to warm a heart of a handsome man."
