Heavy Weight Challenge The Heavy Weight Strength Challenge is another fan favourite that consists of 3 rounds that pit the largest dragons in the weyr against each other in friendly combat. The three rounds consist of : a Boulder Toss, a Tug Of War, and a Wrestling Match. The Boulder Toss is pretty self explanatory. Suitable Boulders are imported from the local mines and the competing dragons throw them. Many view this as a qualifier round as only the top 8 dragons move on to the Tug of War. The Tug of War is a sight to behold. The day before the competition, a suitable tree is felled from the jungle (usually about as long as a bronze and thick enough to lay a person across) and brought in. This is the rope the dragons use to play 1v1 Tug of War. Queens are usually a favourite bet, but that doesn't always mean they always win! The top 2 dragons move on the Wrestling Match. The Wrestling Match is just that, a match where dragons wrestle until one gives up. The rules are simple – no slashing of wings, bites, or clawing. Nonlethal movements only. This round in particular draws spectators as the great dragons writhe and wrestle, and more then a single bet is made throughout the ordeal. The winner of this grand finale is deemed the strongest dragon of the Weyr! Some consider this opportunity a change to demonstrate training, leadership, and tactical skill... as it's not uncommon for a Wingleader to do well in this competition. Only Crimson, Brown, Bronze, Silver and Gold Dragons May CompeteHow to Compete: Boulder Toss: Roll 1d100. The result is the distance you've thrown. You have 1 day from the date of your post to add description. Every 250 words is +15 distance, to a max of 30. The Boulder Toss will run 3 days. After 3 days, the top 8 competitors will continue on. Tug of War : Staff will randomize compeition pairings. Competing pairs will then roll 3d20 three times. The average across all 6 dice will be the result. Competitors gain +5 to their average for every 250 words they post, to a max of 20 total. The Higher Average wins the match. The Tug of War will run 3 Days. After 3 Days, the top 4 dragons (those who won their Tug of War) will continue on. Wrestling Match : There are 3 matches, 2 from those who moved up, and 1 pitting the winners against each other. Staff will randomize pairings. Each Wrestler rolls 1d8, compares the result, and the highest of the two has the 'upper hand'. A player can gain +1/250 words, to a max of 5, per comparison. The dragon who gains the 'upper hand' 5 times wins. Each match lasts 3 days, if no one posts staff will randomize the winner, if there are posts, the dragon with the greater number of 'upper hands' wins. The final match between the champions will have 3 days as well.

Boulder Toss- Killakeeth 28+30=58
Her rider had been fussing over her all morning. As much as she liked the attention this train of thought was starting to get old for the dragon. Vosin. Relax. I shall be fine. The eggs will be fine. Killa had wanted to enter and at first it’d seemed like a good idea. As the date got closer and closer, and she’d started to show signs of her pregnancy her rider had started to worry.
I feel fine. A little rock throwing isn’t going to change that. The fussing wasn’t fun anymore. At least it was not from Vosin. The dragon led her rider down to the field where the boulders had been lined up. Ooo that one looks good. She went up to claim it.
Vosin normally didn’t worry. When the gold started actually showing signs, like that tiny bulge in her belly now, she began to second guess her choice. Was it really a good idea to enter in this? She knew Killakeeth had been looking forward to having some fun of her own and joining into her share of the competitions. They had a huge responsibility on their shoulders to the weyr; safely bring new dragons into the world. It was different when they were just out searching for candidates.
She’d sadly gotten into the habit of checking on her dragon maybe more frequently than she should. Vos sighed as Killa firmly told her off. Alright, alright! But if anything feels slightly funny we’re stopping. As long as the dragon informed her rider. Vosin would have to settle for checking the gold over after this event. She wisely moved back out of the way where she could observe without the risk of being squished.
Killakeeth strolled up to her chosen boulder. She rested the tip of her nose against it for a moment, breathing in and whuffing the air out. This was a good one. She picked it up and gingerly turned it around in her claws until it felt comfortable. Smashing a toe was not a good idea, and this was heavier than she thought it would be! She would do this no matter what!
Dipping her head she heaved the boulder off the ground. Killakeeth eyeballed the eventual destination of her boulder. She wanted it to fly as far as possible. Muzzle firmly shut, she felt her muscles bunch with the effort as she heaved the piece of rock across the field. It slammed down making the ground ripple under her feet. My foot slipped in a hole! She complained to her rider in an attempt to explain the absolute pitiful distance she threw. Never would she say that it due to being pregnant. A queen should be able to throw better!
A valiant effort nonetheless, Vos soothed. She’d hoped it would fly further and dispel her worries. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. The woman went down to meet up with Killakeeth as she headed off the field. “Don’t take it too hard. I’m sure others may step in that hole too. Over all though, you did really well. I bet the others couldn’t throw that good while pregnant.”

Boulder toss: Moriath
Score: 66 + 30 = 96< > Moriath dipped her head to give her bondmate an encouraging nudge. <>
Kleos sighed and leaned against Moriath’s muzzle, reaching up to caress her eyeridges. <>
<> the crimson chuckled.
Kleos chuckled softly and shook her head before planting a kiss on her dragon’s nose. <> Failing to get through to the tug of war last turn had galled Moriath greatly, the fact that she had strained her shoulder on the wing relay hadn’t made her feel any better at all about the failure.
<> Moriath gave a pleased rumble and began to stride towards the start line, leaving Kleos to rush to the spectator stands. <> she added as she shoulders her way through a gaggle of blues and blacks who were watching the bigger dragons flex their muscles. <>
<> Kleos replied, pausing to pass a pleasantry with a Dauntless rider before picking her way up into the stands proper. <> she concluded as she took her seat and waited with growing excitement for Moriath to step up to the line. <>
<> Moriath preened as she carefully limbered up; she knew she couldn't simply hurl herself into hurling or she would risk injuring herself and not only putting herself out of the rest of the contest but also making her unfit for duty until she healed. That would be an unacceptable outcome from a day of sport, and no matter how much she wanted to show off her best she couldn’t risk damaging herself over it.
<> said Kleos, even though Moriath hadn’t actually voiced the thought.
Moriath nodded and sent a feeling of agreement before grasping the boulder and looking speculatively down the course to pick out the dents in the ground which marked previous attempts. <> she said firmly and, without further ado, she hurled the rock.
It sailed through the air rather majestically Kleos thought, and she found herself on her feet cheering and applauding as it impacted the ground a very respectable distance down the course. <>
Moriath gave a snort of amusement and turned to bow to the cheering crowd. <>
<> Kleos agreed with a chuckle and then, after a pause, she added; <>

Boulder toss: Acriculeth
Score: 21 + 30 = 51After completing their leg of the wing relay Acriculeth and A'nos had taken a day to relax and recover from the exertions but with the Dragon Games still in full swing there was no time to lie around forever! The Heavy Weight Challenge was always a favourite of the crowds, what could be better than watching giant dragons throw giant things around? Including other giant dragons. Giving it a miss simply was not an option, and nor was making a poor showing. Acriculeth was relatively sleek for a bronze, but that was 'for a bronze', he still had plenty of power and more importantly he knew how best to apply it to get the results required. A'nos sat in the spectator stands which was set a safe distance behind the hurling range and watched as Acriculeth prowled up to his mark to collect his boulder. It was a very large boulder but then they always were. < > came Acriculeth’s voice, he knew full well that A’nos would have found that out by now.
<> A’nos replied. <>
<> Acriculeth retorted, stretching out luxuriously and scanning his audience to gauge their mood. Excitement seemed to be running high overall but that was only normal for this event and that was not what he was interested in, what he was interested in was anyone who’s mood stood out from the masses. Was anyone in there watching, waiting for him to make a mistake? When you were at the top there were scores below you keen to drag you down and take your place.
A’nos gave a slight shrug, if Acriculeth wanted to know then he wasn’t going to keep the details from him. <> Arrogant creature that she was.
<> Acriculeth agreed, giving his supple frame a last flex before grasping the boulder that had been laid out ready for him. <> The bronze hefted the huge rock into the air and, with a bellow of exertion, hurled it as far down the field as he could. The massive projectile struck the ground some distance down the course with a dull thump that shook the earth slightly.
A’nos squinted after it.
Acriculeth glowered at it and grumbled. <>
<> A’nos shrugged. <>
<> Acriculeth turned away from the throwing range, inclined his head slightly to the crowd, and set off towards the nearest lake. <>
A’nos nodded. <>

Boulder Toss: Hatteth Score: 75 + 30 = 105
I don’t see why I have to do this, Hatteth complained. I see no need to try to prove my strength. Nevertheless, he was walking towards the field where the Heavy Weight Challenge would be held. Walking, not flying. It was easier to drag his heels this way.
“Come on, it’ll be fun,” J’nes urged from his perch on top his dragon. “And you’ve got nothing to lose, anyway. The whole of the Dragon Games are about friendly competition.”
But I will surely be one of the smallest dragons entering, Hatteth pointed out. I am not a large brown, so some crimsons, many browns, and most of the larger colors will surely have the advantage over me.
“Size doesn’t necessarily equate strength,” J’nes pointed out. “And in many of these events, leverage will be just as useful. Besides, it’ll do the youngsters good to see a smaller dragon hold his own against unfavorable odds and larger opponents. And you might even do well!”
Unlikely. As you said, the odds are against me.
“Well, too late to back out. We’re here,” J’nes said as they arrived at the field. “If you back out now, you’ll look like you chickened out. Now let me down.”
It would not be chickening out, it would be a tactical retreat, Hatteth insisted, but he did bend his knee so his rider could dismount. J’nes slid down hid dragon’s leg, then turned to pat his ankle. “Knock ‘em dead, big guy,” he encouraged.
Hatteth snorted and said, I thought this was supposed to be a nonviolent event, before heading into the field.
The Heavy Weight Challenge was a 3-part event, each part designed to show off a dragon’s strength. The first one was simple enough: pick up a boulder and throw it as far as you could. Since that had the potential to do horribly awry and flatten someone or something, it was held in a field some distance away from anything else. Spectators were advised to keep their distance, and to mostly stay behind the dragons doing the throwing.
Hatteth stretched a little, rolling his shoulders and flexing his front legs as he looked over the field. There were a few small craters in the ground from where dragons had thrown boulders previously. Well, that would give him an idea of how well his throw compared to the others, then. Hopefully his throw would not fall of any of them,
Once he felt he was as limber as he was likely to get, he sat on his haunches, used his front feet to grasp the boulder laid out for him and hefted it. Not a maneuver he was really used to, but he managed.
Try aiming slightly up. It’ll go farther than if you throw straight, J’nes advised.
I know. I’ve heard you give Weyrlings enough lessons on throwing firestone, Hatteth answered. He didn’t remember the exact explanation about gravity and parabolas, but he remembered the main point. With that in mind, he drew back his forelegs, then threw the boulder as hard as he could. Hatteth and J’nes watched the boulder arc into the air, then crash to the ground. J’nes whooped when he saw it fell beyond any of the marks so far. See? I told you! Bigger does not mean better.
Hatteth snorted his surprise and dropped down to all fours. Perhaps. We shall see if anyone who has yet to throw does better.
