Lorelei was hidden. She had dug out a trench in the sand with her hooves and settled her body into it. Her back was obscured by sand, but also by the various debris she had attached to it. Long strands of kelp were tangled in her mane and her bony tail. She'd managed to stick a large sponge to her rump with the help of a couple lazy starfish. She'd covered her brightly-colored fur with viscous black mud. When she was clean, she was vibrant and colorful in the water, hard to miss. Now, she looked like nothing more than sea junk hanging around the bottom.
This was exactly what she needed.
She hadn't been hidden for long when fish began to drift by. The smaller fish came first, drifting along in schools that flashed silver when they turned. Those were beautiful, but they didn't even have enough meat to serve as a snack. The larger fish slowly returned, not having seen her hiding herself in this place. She even saw a flounder adopt a similar strategy as herself, hiding itself beneath a layer of sand. She gave the flounder a secret style. Not many sea creatures could hide like they did.
She waited and waited. Barely moving extended the amount of time she could stay underwater, but she couldn't stay under forever. Her lungs started to prickle, and that's when she saw it. A beautiful grouper swam right in front of her nose, and then she struck.
