It wasn't in her to let the whimsical nature of the fenced in area deteriorate with neglect, even if she really wanted to go back inside and unpack the book shipment that came this morning. Jackson, her employee, could handle it along with anyone who needed help with their selections. It wasn't his fault she kept putting off the wedding until it had gotten this bad; when the garden gnomes were getting lost in the unwanted grass there was a problem. With a sigh she resettled her large straw hat and returned to her weeding. The sun was beating down on, making the simple light blue shirt cling to her back while a soft, barely there breeze tugged lightly at her messy bun of hair.
Soon. She silently promised herself as she tugged at yet another persistent green invading neucanse. Soon I will quit for the day, take a nice cool shower, and dig through the new books. Anything has to be better than weeding. She mentally railed at the heat, if it wasn't so damn hot then the courtyard would have people in it and she wouldn't be out here weeding but the humid heat drove everyone inside leaving her to her task alone.
Jessie really had no idea what kind of image she portrayed. A pale, smallish figure in slightly dirty, but still bright shirt and shorts dutifully pulling handful after handful of unwanted plant matter from the colorful flowerbeds. A large floppy straw hat on her head to keep the sun out of her face did little to keep her messy bun from from escaping, tendrils of gently curling hair being tugged by the breeze. The pale yellow Victorian dominating the rest of the view. The wrap around porch leading up to the stain glass front door. The colorful carved wooden sign proclaimed the place as 'The Bookwyrm' and the green glass dragon reading a book portrayed in the door just a taste of the very eccentric nature of the store that was housed in the first floor of the building. The garden wasn't the only place that whimsy was prevalent.
