Theoretically, Puck was supposed to be out patrolling his neighborhood. Theoretically. What he was actually doing was sitting under a tree in the small park not far from his favorite busking corner, playing with his senshi phone. Faust hadn't been very informative on its use and functions when he'd given it to him, just that it wasn't a normal cellphone and you couldn't use it for like updating Facebook or ringing up your mum or anything like that. And he hadn't had the chance to examine it himself while powered down. Too busy with music stuff, and home remodeling, and gardening, and oh yeah out boozing it up at the pub (or what passed for a pub in Destiny City).
Puck could tell the forest green device he held in his hand definitely wasn't a normal cellphone -- for one, it more resembled an old-school Blackberry with a slide-out keyboard than a modern smartphone. Was this the best state-of-the-art technology the Order side had? He found that hard to believe. Maybe he'd have to talk to someone else about it, someone other than Faust. He knew he'd have to talk to someone else about all this senshi s**t anyway. That might be someplace to start: the Contacts menu.
Pressing the button below the word "Contacts," a handful of names with, surprise, contact information suddenly appeared on the blank screen. The entries looked to be in alphabetical order; convenient, that. Not that he recognized any of them, since he hadn't met any other senshi yet, at least of the White Moon variety. He touched the screen with his finger in an attempt to scroll down, and muttered a curse under his breath when that didn't work. Stupid antiquated piece of s**t. He finally figured it out, though, and began perusing the list. Ganymede, Kallichore... looked like a lot of them were named after space objects, like stars or moons. Maybe his own name, Puck, wasn't from Shakespeare after all, as he'd originally thought. He'd have to do some research to figure out what and where Puck was. And there was Thraen's name, the guy that Faust had mentioned who might be able to answer some of his questions. Puck was glad Thraen was already in there -- that meant he wouldn't have to look for the cat again to get contact info.
Now that he had that figured out, Puck pressed what he assumed was the home button to dismiss the Contacts screen, then pressed the button below "Menu." As he suspected, the usual assortment of menu items popped up, including Camera, and something called Primer. Hadn't Faust mentioned a primer? He'd have to go back and read that later, like tonight. He was sure it would be scintillating bedtime reading. Nah, that was unfair. There might actually be useful crap in there.
Puck pressed the home button again to dismiss the Menu, then slid out the keyboard. It looked like a typical normal phone keyboard, except for the little buttons below it. What did "Scan" do? He pressed it, and a map came up, glowing with little hotspots. Was this some kind of GPS? Pretty advanced for an older phone. Quickly he figured out that the little glowing dot in the center was his current location -- but then what were the other dots? Some were the same color as his was, but others were different colors. Could those be other senshi, or maybe Chaos signatures? Or youma? He looked around, then back down at the map. None of them were very close to him, which was good because he was kind of busy and really didn't want to be interrupted right now with a fight. He snorted. Him, not wanting to fight? That was a change.
What about "Database"? With a shrug, Puck pressed it, and another list popped up -- this one filled with descriptions and warnings as well as more names he didn't recognize, except some of them were clearly minerals. He frowned as he read the opening paragraph. So these were the bad guys. He'd have to remember this.
Sliding the keyboard closed, Puck sighed and leaned back against the tree. So much to figure out, now that he was in this situation that he didn't ask to be in. He breathed in the smells of the park, the bark of the tree and the foliage on the ground. There was something about trees and woods that seemed to resonate with him. He wondered if it was because of that whole "senshi of the woods" thing he had going on. No, not necessarily; he'd had a love of nature and woods since he was a child. He recalled his parents taking him to romp in parks back in London, and sometimes they'd go up to Highgate Wood where he'd clamber up and down the ancient forest's trees, playing hide and go seek with imaginary friends. He missed the woods; he hadn't had much chance to search around for woodland parks since moving to Destiny City. He'd have to remedy that.
Lost in his daydreams of deep old forests, he pressed the home button on the phone with his thumb to dismiss the database, holding it down perhaps a bit longer than he normally would have.
And suddenly he was gone.
