The sun was out, not a cloud marked the sky, it was midday, and the humidity was unbearable. Needless to say it was HOT and Chailee, like a lot of other people, was out looking for something to do that wouldn't require her to do too much. She had already spent the morning at the library where she managed to find a new fantasy novel that interested her. As much as she enjoyed the aroma of the old building and the books that called the library home, Chailee was feeling antsy and wanted a different atmosphere. Thankfully it didn't take too much walking until she found something that caught her interest. The cafe sported large windows and cute little tables outside (though not many people opted to sit outside with the heat) and tall tables inside with a few very comfortable looking chairs and sofas. The ide aof the shop being too noisy didn't even cross her mind. If there was one thing a good reader could do it was block out the world around them. So entering the cafe Chay happily walked up to the counter and ordered herself an icy cold creme drink. No coffee. She never did like the taste of the stuff. Tea she was alright with but she preferred to only drink it in the winter when she was cold. So, with her drink in hand and her bag slung over her shoulder with her new book in it she set off in search of a place to curl up and read. She purposely headed to a back corner that looked secluded but as she got there she realized that one of the two leather armchairs were already taken. Now, normally Chailee would have just scurried off to somewhere else but the occupant was all by himself and appeared to be absorbed into his own book. Curious as a kitten Chay couldn't just leave and instead she folded herself up into the chair by him, put her bag on the floor and leaned over to try and look at the spine but had little luck in her endeavor. "Whatever your reading must be good!" She smiled widely at the man. "What's it about?" Daffupanda And may the festivities of awkwardness begin! Child vs. Man rd. 1! I suck at naming threads! XDD

Destiny city looked... mostly the same to Rohan. His comings and goings from the place hadn't affected anything; this was something he'd known deep down, and yet the apprehension of setting foot within any local business, only to have someone recognize him was daunting at first. It took him several days to realize that honest to goodness, no one gave a damn what he did or did not do.
As such, it took him a good three to four minutes to realize that the girl (child, really) that had taken residence on the nearby armchair was actually talking to him. When the man finally dragged his gaze from his open book, it was to offer the girl a look of pure, unadulterated confusion, which soon enough melted into a scowl. As far as he was aware, he had two options;
He could engage and hopefully send her away with a cold, scathing remark.
Or he could ignore her. Mayhaps she'd tire, bore and simply walk away?
Given her young age, and the fact she reminded him strongly of his last class of students, he decided to spare her and go with option number two. That much decided, he let out a long, self suffering sigh and promptly turned back to the pages of his book, which he tried (rather unsuccessfully) to read, determined to ignore the child. The child, however, was relentless. Much like a miniature shark, dressed in a skirt; it didn't seem to bother her one bit when the man turned back to his book, leaving her first question unanswered. In fact, the chit had the gall to smile at him (which he saw out the corner of an eye - after all, he wasn't really ignoring her 100%), and ask yet another question.
By the time the second question had flown out of her mouth, Rohan found himself seriously rethinking his options. A third option did come to mind, after all; he could always leave the place. If he left her there alone, the previous options were moot.

Despite her age Chailee was a rather patient teen. She was able to entertain herself easily, probably something that came along with being an only child. Truthfully the long silence the man was giving her, which she did not read as a pointed attempt at ignoring her, she assumed was from her interrupting a good part of his book. After all, if -she- had been interrupted while reading a good part of a book she'd probably be the same. Well...ok maybe she wouldn't completely ignore the person, she may give them a smile and a nod, indicate she wanted a minute or two more, and return back to the pages. Everyone was different though. So instead of being put off by sigh Chailee waited patiently in her chair and pulled out her own book. This made it quite obvious she had no intentions of actually vacating her seat of choice. Tucking her legs up and sitting cross legged style, she shifted her skirt to make sure all was well there and slipped off the pair of flats she had on to make herself more comfortable before settling her book in her lap. She took a large sip of her drink before placing it on the table alongside her chair. Condensation was already building on the plastic cup despite the AC running. The plastic book sleeve that the library had placed on the book to protect it crackled slightly under her touch. The book itself was a soft cover and Chay took care opening it since it seemed to be showing its' age. This time she had chosen a book that was supposedly part of a large series about knight like people who were chosen by noble steeds called companions and used magic of a sorts to protect their kingdom. She had high hopes for it. But...she wasn't quite ready to dive into it yet. By this point several minutes had passed and she glanced back over at the man. She made another point to try and get a good look at the cover of the book but the man's hands were more than large enough to cover the title of the book. She wrinkled her nose in slight irritation that she couldn't appease her curiosity on her own. Biting her lip she paused for a moment before breaking the uneasy silence between them. "Sooo...it must be a good book! You're really absorbed in it. Is it a fantasy? History? Sci-fi? Oooo I bet it's sci-fi! I dunno why but you seem like someone who'd like a good science fiction novel." She paused, unsure if he was even going to respond to her. The silence would have seemed almost oppressing to anyone else by Chay was hardly put off by it. "Oh! I am Chailee by the way! I am a bit of a bookworm so I get really excited about what other people read."

Well then. Rohan figured this was a situation he could at least work with. If the child simply turned away from and focused her attention back on her book, it meant he could tune her out entirely and get on with his day. As such, even though she seemed unwilling to leave her armchair, the man was content to note this all down as some sort of minor victory; he'd take what he could get, after all. At this day and age, he'd learned to not be picky.
When the child turned her attention to her book, opening it with care, Rohan let out another sigh, this time one that seemed to indicate he'd somehow avoided a catastrophe of some sort, and turned his full attention back to the large, withered, hardcover book he was holding; a worn down copy of 'Wuthering Heights', a suitably dark title to suit his usually dark moods of late. That, and he technically had to do a profound study of the book itself before his next lesson the following week.
He was starting to get back into the story of Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw when the irritating chit pipped up yet again!
This time, his irritation showed in the way he snapped his book closed and turned to glare at her. Again he considered a scathing remark, but something about the way she looked at him stopped him; she seemed actually interested, and her eyes betrayed the fact she seemed to have no ulterior motives. Still, a long life of being a stubborn a*****e was hard to break, and after just a smidgen of of hesitation, during which his eyes narrowed in attempt to read the child and her intentions better... Rohan finally stood up from his seat.
The movement finally exposed the title of the book to the poor girl, but that aside, probably gave her no further information. He then lifted the cup of coffee that had been sitting neglected on the table beside him, took the last few sips of coffee (which were arctic cold, prompting a disgusted face from the man), and he started to walk towards the cashier. There, he paid for his drink, shot the child one last look and then pushed his way out of the store.
Running away had worked for the past six years, so why shouldn't it keep on working? Even if the child was a relentless little shark, there was no way she was ever going to follow him out.
Kolina I figure the sooner we get to the point he realizes there's no shaking her off, the sooner he's going to talk >_> and given I want him talking, I'm going to move this along.

Chailee hadn't expected the look he gave her. For a split second he looked like he was going to open up to her before everything closed down again. It was so curious. She really thought he was going to talk to her. She watched as he stood and just barely caught the title of his book. She was going to comment but he drained his coffee and she tried to hold back a giggle at the face he made at what must have been a cold drink. She didn't move as he stepped up to the counter to pay. In fact, she may have conceded defeat with him if it hadn't been for that last look he threw her before walking out. She sat there for a moment. Only a moment though before she practically flung her book back into her bag, uncurled herself from the leather chair that felt like it had swallowed her small frame, slipped on her shoes and hurried out the door with her drink in hand and bag back on her shoulders. She stood outside the doors and looked around almost desperately for the man. There was something about him that she felt the need to give him her company. Her desperate searching was a bit of wasted energy in the heat for he hadn't gotten too far away. In fact he had just crossed the street a block or two up, heading to the shady side. Taking another gulp of her drink, which was going to melt incredibly fast now, she glanced both ways before J-walking. She didn't care. Traffic was light at this part of town. Plus it meant she could catch up to him a bit faster. Or so she thought. Chailee hadn't counted on the fact that he was so tall and thus took much larger strides than herself. The teen eventually relented and started jogging before finally catching up to him where even then she had to walk two steps to his one as she followed behind him. "So, Wuthering Heights?" She inquired genuinely. "I've never read it honestly. I think it might be on my reading list for next school year though. I hope it's good!" She smiled and tilted her head at him before practically changing the subject. "Um, are you alright? I mean...you looked like you were going to start talking for a second but changed your mind and if I did anything to upset you I am sorry." She paused for a moment before deciding to say what she was thinking. "It just...right before you walked out, I felt like you needed company or something."

Destiny, apparently, liked to prove him wrong, because just when he thought he'd finally achieved peace and quiet... a cheerful, annoyingly familiar voice pipped up from behind him, prompting Rohan to practically jump in place before shooting a look over his shoulder.
He couldn't believe his eyes; there she was again! His previous assertion of the little chit as a relentless shark was pretty much on the mark, though then again, maybe the comparison was wrong; she looked more like a dog. A puppy to be exact. A very relentless, stubborn puppy with a bone that would not let go.
Having gotten over his initial surprise, he once again shot her that same look of utter and complete disbelief, which soon melted into confusion, because Rohan simply could not understand what the purpose of her actions were. After all, he was used to knowing when someone wanted something of him, or when they needed something from him; being approached for absolutely no reason was baffling beyond belief and in some ways, actually interesting.
He'd always liked a good puzzle, and this girl was a walking conundrum on legs. A walking conundrum which was... actually having a hard time keeping up with him, from the looks of things; she was practically jogging to stay at his side, and though she was doing a good job of keeping her breath, the heat was soon enough bound to get to her. After a moment or two of pondering, he altered his gait slightly, so the girl didn't have to jog every three or four steps, but otherwise kept his silence.
He did, however, glance at her when she asked her questions, squinting at her before turning away. Walking away silently down the street. Walk walk walking along until he was at the door of his not very luxurious apartment. He stopped walking suddenly and realized the girl, was in fact a dog.
She'd followed him home.
When realization hit him, he grit his teeth, turned around and glared down at her, "What on earth do you want from me?" It was right around then that the girl decided to drop the bomb on him, letting him know he apparently looked like he needed company. He opened his mouth, closed it, looked up heavenward, as if asking for strength, and then looked back down at the girl whom was still smiling up at him slightly. His hand lifted, covered his face, and through his fingers, a single question was asked "What on earth is wrong with you?"

Chailee was infinitely happy when the man slowed down his pace for her and also because it meant he couldn't be all that upset with her if he was willing to slow down for her much shorter legs. Score one for her! Though...with his silent act and the looks he gave her she quickly began to wonder again if maybe he -was- upset at her. But, it really didn't compute in her brain. One moment he appeared to be doing something nice and willing to open up but then he just...wouldn't. Well, fine. She could deal with that. Whether or not he talked to her she was still being company in some way. Plus...he hadn't physically tried to chase her off yet. Point number 2 for her in her books! He stopped suddenly and Chailee nearly ran into him but managed to avoid physically making any contact. She just...swerved a bit and looked up at the building. She was so absorbed in wondering if this was any place of importance to him when the strange voice she had been trying to so hard to coax out of the man finally broke the silence. She jumped slightly and her wide green eyes focused on him. She wasn't put off though. Ok...maybe she was a little unsure of herself at this point as he obviously didn't appear to know what to say or do. She stepped back slightly so she wasn't so much in his space and clasped her hands behind her back. "Um, well...nothing really. I mean. At first, at the cafe I was just really interested in what you were reading but then the more you avoided me the more I began to wonder if maybe something was wrong and you needed company." She lifted a hand then to brush a stray blue and pink curl from her face and back behind her ear and shrugged. "I don't know. I just...felt like you needed someone around. Even if it was just quiet company." She shifted the bag on her shoulder that was beginning to slip off. "I am sorry if I made you angry or anything." And she really was sorry. Sometimes her sincerity to be around and help people didn't always come off great and it wasn't something she tended to think about until well after the fact. "On the bright side though." Her apologetic gaze shifted into something much more merry. "You finally talked to me!" She beamed a smile.

It was right then and there that Rohan realized he was way out of his comfort zone and somewhere stranded in deep waters. Not only that, but he had no idea what to do about it, or how to alleviate the situation in the least. He'd gone to school, had a Master's degree in English Literature and Creative Writing and... he had no idea what to do with this girl. No one had taught him this; no one had told him how to handle situations like this. Such situations were simply not covered in the freaking syllabus.
Should he just turn around, walk inside and leave the chit alone in the street? Was is socially acceptable to open the door and let her in? Should he ******** call the police? Who was he supposed to call for help in such a situation??
By the time her last few words came chirping out of her mouth... Rohan had arrived at some sort of conclusion, because he opened his mouth, as if to talk, closed it, frowned, turned around... and then promptly vanished through the door he unlocked and into his apartment house.
There were several moments of silence, a minute, two... three went by and nothing happened. Then, probably just when the girl thought he had gone, the man pushed the door open with the side of his body, his arms busy carrying a plate of cookies and what appeared to be a glass of milk. He arched a brow at her, dangling the glass of milk before her eyes before setting the plate down on the ground, on the steps leading up to his house. He then followed suit and sat down him, "It's classic," he drawled softly at her suddenly, apparently randomly deciding to finally answer her question about the book he'd been reading, the question she'd prompted way back when she'd caught up with him and he'd apparently initially ignored, "Might be a bit dark for you though. You strike me as happy ending kind of girl," a pause, "It's in the syllabus I need to teach," that was, apparently, all which he was ready to offer her at that point, neither agreeing or denying her previous claims of solitude and loneliness.
But then again, he was sitting at the steps of his home, eating a cookie while he inspected the worn out copy of Wuthering Heights which he owned. Lonely didn't even begin to describe his situation.

IT happened so fast. One minute he was there giving her a deer in the headlights look, seemed to make a decision, then just...disappeared inside of the building. Chailee just stood there with a furrowed brow as she stared at the door as if the inanimate object had just completely offended her. She waited though, just in case. A minute went by, then another, and another. She was just about to take the chance and knock on his door to offer one last apology for bothering him when the door opened up and she was welcomed by the lovely surprise of milk and cookies! She happily took the glass that was so graciously presented to her with a wide smile. She could feel the coldness of the liquid through the glass and happily took a sip of it. After all, she'd finished her drink from the cafe during the long points of silence during their walk over here. "Thank you!" Not wasting time she took a large gulp of the milk and proceeded to sit down on the stairs as well. The plate of cookies separated the pair and Chailee gleefully took one of the cookies. And then he spoke again! Wonder upon wonders! It took her a moment before she realized what he was referring to. Pulling the cookie she was nibbling on away from her mouth she took another sip of milk to watch down the crumbs before talking. "Oohhhh! I assumed it had to be something older since I'll be studying it in school. I don't mind dark stories but yea...I like when the good guys win at the end." She laughed and took another bite of the cookie. "I guess you could say I am a bit of a dreamer in that sense. Fantasy novels with sword wielding knights, princesses, and dragons are my sort of thing. Happy endings and all included." Popping the last remaining bit of cookie into her mouth she leaned forward a bit, propped up by her forearms on her thighs with a cookie in one hand and her glass of milk in the other as she looked at him. "It must be fun being a teacher. I....don't think I've seen you before at Meadowview before..." She tilted her head slightly. "I bet you're a professor at a University. You seem so focused and all. Something I'd expect out of a university teacher." She took another sip of her milk before placing it on the step near her foot for easy access. It was already warming up though courtesy of mother nature so she wouldn't dally over drinking it long. Not if she wanted to enjoy it completely. Needless to say Chailee was as happy as kitten with her glass of milk, plate of cookies, and her curiosity being appeased.

Apparently, both cookies and milk had been a good idea, given the happiness he was greeted with; still baffling, given the notion Rohan was vaguely aware that it was the fact he'd spoken which had actually made the child particularly enthusiastic. Which begged the question of... why?
The child was either too nice for her own good, in the sense that she seemed to blossom when people around her opened up (particularly those that were initially unwilling to do so). Or she was loved deprived enough that she had to seek validation from the likes of him.
Her positive demeanor seemed to indicate it was along the lines of the former, not the later, and personalities such as that... never seemed to cease to surprise Rohan. He often times forgot that the current war did not seem to affect anyone and everyone, and that most people were for strange reasons, still blissfully unaware of the imminent dangers DC presented them with.
He should know. After all, he was one of those imminent dangers. All he had to do was power up. Reaching into her, and snatching that star seed away would have been a piece of cake at this point.
He took one last bite of cookie as the child spoke, and then promptly blinked and coughed harshly, his head turning away from her as he smacked his chest several times in an attempt to dislodge the morsel that had likely slipped down the wrong passage at her small, innocent little proclamation. When he'd managed to tone the coughing fit down, Rohan shot the girl another look before turning his attention heavenward, "I have been... away from the city for a very long time. I used to hold a position in Crystal academy," after a brief pause, he looked at her out the corner of an eye, "I will be teaching at Meadowview as full staff the following semester."
After taking a sip of his own mug, which contained even more coffee, (since apparently, the man was addicted to the stuff), he turned to look at her, "you claim me to be focused... you have not seen my study," he drawled, still not entirely sure why he was even engaging in conversation with the child; she seemed harmless enough though, and it had been a long time since he'd done non-work-related-talk in any way, shape or form, "My old one used to be in the bowels of the Crystal academy library... it was dark, dusty, and the girl rarely, if ever came for help. I believe they were scared of the rumors of rats and spiders, which suited me just fine. Only a couple of brave souls ever sought me out, but quite honestly, all that dwell there were very old, musky, dusty books. And many of those were interesting, if forgotten."

The girls eyes widened in disbelief and glee. "Oh!!! You're probably going to be my teacher then next year!" The excitement at having just met one of her teachers, and a new one at that, was practically over flowing from her. Plus, he worked at Crystal Academy before so that meant he -had- to be good since Crystal Academy is so hard to get into! "I bet it;s going to be a really fun class too! Now I am actually -excited- for classes to start back up." She grinned and snatched up another cookie. "If you bring treats like this to class I bet all the other students will be excited too." With a chuckle she bit into it and listened intently as he started on about his studies. She stared at him and blinked for a moment and took the cookie she was about to bite into away form her mouth. "But...wasn't is lonely if no one ever came down to visit you? I mean, I love books and all to but I can't imagine them being a replacement for company and friends. Besides, you're not as scarey as you try to seemt o be." Her eyes widened at that last little comment she made. "I am sorry. I mean, you seemed to be trying to hard to not have company back at the cafe. It was like you were trying to scare me off or something." She took a bite of the cookie she'd been holding and looked down at her feet as she casually 'clicked' the toes of her shoes together. "I am glad I followed you though. You turned out to be really nice." She turned her head slightly to look at him from the corner of her eyes. "Plus, now that I know you're going to be my teacher I'll have to make sure to get a head start on the book. I don't do that for everyone you know. Summer time is my vacation you know." She giggled and popped the rest of the cookie in her mouth.

Rohan was mid deciding that he had probably filled his cute quota for a whole month when the child beside him seemed to... deflate slightly; the way she drooped visible even out the corner of his eye, and thus, he slowly tuned back into what she was saying.
He picked up the gist of her statement (and the tale end of it, which made him snort slightly). He did manage to disguise the snort of amusement with a small cough, but he wasn't sure who the hell he was fooling; not the kid, that much was probably true. After all, she was uncharacteristically observant. Something which Rohan hadn't given her much credit for when he'd first laid eyes on her, given her rather annoyingly perky personality, "Well," he drawled as he finished the cookie he'd grabbed earlier, switching back to his mug of coffee, "There was someone," he left it at that for now, and then shot the girl a look, arching a very pale eyebrow in a clear challenge, "You seem convinced I'm not scary. What makes you say that, exactly? Surely not the cookies. For all you know... they might be poisoned. I figure you will not know for sure until the morrow."
Another snort, though this one remain undisguised as Rohan shook his head, "Save the book for the rainy weather. A love story gone wrong... does not suit summer too well at all," a pause, and again he looked at her, squinted, really, as if trying to figure her out, or somehow read beyond the surface, "You mean to tell me that you do not make it a habit to follow complete strangers home like a puppy? I'm shocked. What made me worthy of such honors, exactly?"
A long, drawn out 'maaaaaaaaau' soon enough interrupted their conversation, as a large, scruffy looking, mangy black cat drew up to Rohan, curled its body around his legs and then called out once more, obviously expecting some sort of treat, "Ask the child. She's probably an easier target," large, intelligent green eyes turned to focus on Chailee, and soon enough, the cat had flopped down almost cutely on the ground in front of her; a behavior which contrasted rather horribly with torn ears and and the scruffy coat it possessed.
Turning away from the cat, Rohan took another sip of his coffee, "You seem like a sweet child. You might want to be careful who you approach. I've heard this city can be dangerous, and things are not always what they appear to be."

With a tilt of her head Chailee smiled. "Well. That's true. You weren't completely lonely I guess. I am glad someone else realized that you're really nice." She picked up the milk at her feet and took a gulp. The head had already begun to take it's toll on the liquid as it was already reaching a warm enough temperature to not be as enjoyable. Not wanting to waste it though she chugged down the remaining just as the man mentioned poison. Which of course caused her to cough, but not for the reason that one might think. "If the cookies were poisoned I doubt you'd be eating them too." With a grin she put the now empty glass back down by her feet. The condensation from the glass was promptly wiped away on her skirt. The snort made her stop for a moment before she broke out in a chuckle. It was obvious he was starting to relax. This was good! "I'll remember to pull out the next rainy day we have." Of course, according to the weather, Destiny City was set up for a long span of hot, humid weather ahead without an ounce of rain in the forecast. "Oh um...no?" She looked a bit abashed at his question as she leaned back slightly. "I mean...not usually. I just. I don't know. You seemed different. Really if you had talked to me back at the cafe I probably wouldn't have followed you. Something just told me you needed a friend." The warm smile on her face was so sincere at that point. Chailee was very much an advocate for companion and friendship and never much liked seeing others being lonely. At the arrival of the ebony feline Chailee's eyes widened in excitement. And as the cat was gently 'shooed' in her direction it was obvious by her excitement that the gesture was much appreciated. "Oh! He's so cute!" She reached down to gently scratch the cat's head, not at all caring for his scruffy and beaten appearance. "Is he yours? Does he have a name?" She grinned like a little fool before as she conitnued ministered love upon the cat. Her fingers worked their way through his coat as she enjoyed the content thrum of his purr. "Hm?" Chailee almost hadn't heard the last of what her new friend had said. She stopped pouring her affection upon the cat to turn and look up at him as her mind slowly processed what he said. "Well...I guess." She sighed and looked down at the cat, her hand pulled away from him to wrap around her legs, her expression somewhat sad but contemplative. "I just don't want to always second guess people. Most people aren't out to hurt others and walking around wondering what everyone's intentions are all the time just makes me unhappy. I figure if something happens, then I will deal with it when it comes." She shrugged. "I've been...fairly well off so far." Of course, her few bad experiences had happened in much different and extreme situations. Right now she was Chailee, not Harmonia. She wasn't running around trying to save civilians and deal with a war. All of this though wasn't something she could just blurt out though, not to a civilian anyway. Realizing that the mood had changed Chailee made a point to perk herself up. reaching forward her hand absently lost itself in the cats fur again while she looked to the man. "So, you never told me your name. I keep thinking of you as my teacher since I've no other way to address you and you aren't even officially my teacher yet."

"Hmmm..." Rohan made a small noise, wrinkling his nose as if he'd swallowed something particularly foul, then lifted his mug of coffee back to his lips again. Memories could be horrible, evil bastards, and while he made a point of not pondering the past over too closely as of late, the notion of what had happened still stung deeply when he allowed himself to stroll too close, "That is debatable," these few words were whispered, more to himself than to the child as he lowered to mug, gripping it with force on his lap; while she might have heard him... it was clear she had probably not been meant to.
Blinking out of his reverie, he turned to eye her down his nose (she was that tiny compared to him), "Unless I have a death wish," he offered her a smirk, dark, lacking mirth and joy, a ghost of a smile, really... and it promptly vanished as he looked away. It reappeared full force though, when she sheepishly replied that apparently... she did not have a habit of following people, and against he snorted. The child really was like a puppy, eager to help. Eager to please, looking for company even among people that likely wanted anything but. He was more like the cat, himself; solitary.
And yet there they both were.
He turned to watch the stray as it rubbed its head against the girl's knees, "No," he drawled, "though you could say I might belong to him. Came into my apartment one day... much like one did long ago when I once lived her. He promptly decided he liked the place, and made it his own; he comes and goes," a pause, his eyes flickering to the child, narrowing as he the scene currently mirrored one from long, long ago, "He has no name. Feel free to give him one, if you so wish."
His hand reached out and slowly took hold of her empty glass, his mug and the plate that sat between them. It was clear he was about to get up, when he stopped his movement; the child had once again drooped, managing to look like some sort of morose puppy, head almost bowed as she answered his previous statement. Rohan instantly regretted his words, and a sigh escaped him, the sound coming out softly as he left the plate back on the ground. He then lifted his hand and rested it softly over the top of the child's head, "Never mind me; I should not have said that," he patted her, like he could have a dog, once, twice, and then reached back for the plate on the ground, lifting his tall frame off the floor. He paused when she spoke back up, looking much perkier once more, "Rohan," he told her, "Rohan Dalry," a pause, "Do you plan on returning?" the way she'd asked made him think the child did not mean this meeting to be a one time thing, which was... odd.

Chailee hadn't heard Rohan's whispered comment. She was half-way absorbed with their feline companion and her own thoughts. Certainly if she had heard them she'd be worried, especially considering she had certainly caught his more offered answer. Of course, her fear would be directed at him than herself. " think having a death wish would be a bit extreme." She smiled. "Though I guess death by cookie wouldn't be all -that- bad." With a wink she chuckled at his look before reaching upwards, her hands clasped above her head as she stretched. Chailee was quite happy that the stoop they were situated on was shadowed from the sun. She was beginning to feel the heats toll even without the suns direct light beating down on them. She glanced down at the cat who seemed quite content from the attention she had showered it with. "Well, maybe I will name him." She sat and pondered it for a moment as she looked down at the felines green eyes which lazily stared back up at her. "How about Felix?"It was a common enough name for a cat but Chailee felt it suited him. She stared at the cat, whom she now thought of as Felix, as Rohan efficently cleaned up their impromptu snacks. So focused on the cat was she that she was almost startled when she felt the gentle pressure of a hand on her head. She tilted her head to look up at him as he patted her head, not at all caring that her hair was getting slightly messed up (not that it was looking all that great in the heat) and offered Rohan smile. "It's alright. No biggie." As Rohan stood up Chailee really noticed how tall he was. She really had to crane her neck and back to look up at him as he finally offered her his name. "Oh! I like it!." She grinned as she stood up. Absently she smoothed down her skirt before clasping her hands behind her back. "Well, if it's alright I'd like to! I mean, I enjoyed spending time with you. You're really interesting! I'd hate to see you find only company in your books, especially if they're dark and sad like you're saying 'Wuthering Heights' is." Unfortunately for Rohan, whether he said yes or no would be a moot point. She had already decided that she was going to visit again. If she had to she'd seek him out in the city. She knew of one place that she could possibly find him now. Plus, even if he managed to avoid her for the rest of the summer she'd eventually see him at school.
