It was very rare for Painite to be caught on the wrong side of a beating. Generally, if she was in a fight, she meant to be there. She had been blindsided, almost literally, by Chaonis and his anger. Sure, she had been messing with his girlfriend, but the way Chaonis attacked her, you would think she had killed Navi outright.
Okay, maybe he had not forgiven her for the whole 'kidnap and torture' thing. Still, it felt like Chaonis had a lot more anger in his punches than was really warranted.
Painite was, for the second time in a shorter period than she would have liked, badly beaten up and in a lot of pain. She limped along, dazed, not sure where she was going or what she should do with herself. She did not power down, at least not yet, dragging herself painfully until she found a familiar area.
She ended up at her minion's door, leaning on it heavily as she thudded the palm of her hand against it. Everything hurt, and she could barely move her arm without pain lancing through her. That damn senshi must have broken some bones, which left her rattled and hurting more than she would admit.
She really only had the strength to pat her hand against the door once, leaning against it and shutting her eyes to try and gather herself.

Karone had been thinking about trying to get ready for the new school year that was sadly just around the corner. The summer had flown by, especially with her new found…nightly activities and her new found wonderful mentor and leader….
She grinned, thinking about Gently and sighed slightly, wishing that she would hear from the woman again…it had been a while and she was getting a little worried that maybe she had done something wrong or…or that maybe Gently had found a new minion…both of those thoughts left her more sad than she wanted to admit.
It was then she heard a soft tapping from her front door and blinked. That was strange…but…maybe someone was out there? She hadn’t ordered any pizza so…
The woman made her way over and opened the door, blinking. “Hello—Painite! What are you…What happened? Why do you look so hurt? What’s going on?” Her voice grew progressively more high pitched and she was already trying to figure out where she had put her keys, it looked like Painite needed a hospital, and fast. “What can I do?”

Painite stumbled into the room, but caught herself before she fell over and managed to move out of the doorway. She leaned back on the door, closing it with a slam, and shook her head slowly. She powered down, which only went to show her even more acutely how much everything her.
She had a large bruise across her jaw, and over her eye. She was sure she was going to get a black eye for that, and was at least thankful he had not managed to get both eyes. At least, she hoped he hadn't. The worst injury was her collar bone, which she had not really checked yet to see if it was as broken as she thought it was.
"I... ran into an old friend..."
She stumbled as she tried to move away from the door, falling against Karone and clinging to her. It was times like this that really made Painite, or rather Gently, remember just how small she was. Sometimes she forgot, under all her bravado and how scared everyone was of her.

Karone was scared, but not of Gently, for her. “What the hell does that mean? An old friend? I don’t like the sound of that…Do you need the hospital? I can drive you there, you look terrible…”
And she looked even worse when she powered down and…Karone’s heart ached. “It’s okay, Gently. I’m right here, I’m not going anywhere, ever. I’ll help you, you came to the right house!” She held the other woman, gently reaching up and stroking her hair. “Let me get you to the hospital, then when they have you fixed up, I can take you home and we can cuddle or something…”
She wasn’t sure what else to do…but she couldn’t lie right now, she was really enjoying running her fingers through Gently’s hair. She was a great minion. The best, just like she promised.

Gently shook her head, clinging to Karone desperately, just to stay upright.
"No, no hospital. I can heal better once I get some energy. Don't worry. Just... just help me sit down somewhere comfortable."
Gently limped a bit in the direction of the sofa, not giving Karone much of a choice but to come with her. It was that, or let Gently fall down when she got too far away to keep herself supported. She was not interested in getting care at the hospital, if only because she did not trust it. Anyway, she did not need it.
Stubbornness was definitely one of her stronger suits.
"Cuddling sounds nice though. I do like cuddling. Come here, my little dove," she cooed, sounding a bit punch drunk.

Karone went right with her as the other woman went to the couch, sinking down into it when they reached it. “Cuddling it is, then.” She pulled Gently down onto the plush leather sofa and snuggled her as tenderly as possible, not wanting to have a negative impact on the injuries that she had sustained.
“So…no hospital?” It didn’t seem like a particularly good way of getting better after a rough fight…and she was sure as heck going to find who hurt her favorite person in the world and give them a piece of her mind…and a piece of her fairy wand. Seriously. One does not simply hurt her Painite and get away with it.
“If you’re really sure…I have a first aid kit…maybe that would help? After we cuddle…of course…and tell me, just who was this old friend of yours? Do I know them? Should I know them? Clearly it is someone who I should avoid…at least until I get stronger…right?”
Oh, and Gently had called her ‘my little dove’. Oh lord, Karone’s face had totally reddened at that, and she was so glad the other woman could not see it in the position she was in.

Gently was perfectly content with some cuddling, getting as comfortable as her battered body would allow her to. She sighed softly, nuzzling against Karone absently. Such a good little minion she was. Gently felt oddly blessed, and was very glad to have found her new friend.
"No hospital. I'll get some energy later..."
She sounded sleepy, but she doubted she would be able to rest peacefully any time soon. Everything hurt too much right now, and she could not take her mind off of it, or the fight itself.
Thankfully, she did not have the energy to be as angry as it really warranted.
"There's this family," she said, once Karone was done with her stream of questions, "of senshi and knights. They're bloody annoying. Blame me for everything. Most of the time, I do it, so... but tonight I don't know what the hell he was so mad about. The young one, Chaonis. His dad wasn't there. I ******** hate his dad. Camelot. I'll teach you how to hurt them, some day. When you're ready."
As, after all, it was a risky business. Tonight was proof of that.

Karone listened to all Gently had to say, running her fingers through the woman’s hair, sighing. “Well, I’m happy to learn how to make that family pay, they deserve it if they did this to you…especially if this isn’t the first time…they’re a bunch of poo heads.”
Because clearly that was the only option. Gently could do no wrong, and if these losers were on the other side of this war, well…that was there problem and their fault.
“I’ll take good care of you. I’ll get you some energy and nurse you all the way back to health, and after that we can kick some goody two shoe butt. Camelot will have met his match with you and me, Gent. I’m so ready…But now, just rest. I’ll watch over you.”
She was such a good minion. Such a good minion indeed.

"Poo heads. You're so adorable, Karone, I really am thankful to have found you."
Maybe she was just a little delirious from the beating, but Gently felt oddly warm and friendly at the moment. Human, in an unfamiliar way. These days, she spent so much time being wacky and evil, she lost sight of simple civilian things like friendships and love. After being hurt so many times, she told herself to never care about that stuff, and save herself a few weaknesses.
Though she was hesitant, resistant to boot, she felt she may have been opening up to those things again.
She felt herself drifting off into a comfortable state, wanting to stay right where she was and fall to sleep instead of wanting to rush off to get her revenge. Not a choice she would generally make.
"I don't deserve something like you," she mumbled thoughtfully, and for a moment she sounded sad.

Karone just shook her head. “You goober. You do so deserve something like me, and better than that…you have me. And I’m not going anywhere. You’ve given me purpose so I’ll stay right by your side for as long as you want me there…” There wasn’t much else she could really say…sometimes words just weren’t enough to convey feelings…so of course there was only one thing to do.
She kissed Gently’s cheek and nuzzled just the slightest bit closer. “I’m yours forever…but we’ll deal with all that later…rest now, my Gently. Rest until you feel better…everything is going to be okay.”
And it totally was. She had no complaints. Not a single one…except maybe against the people who hurt her Gently…that was not to be forgiven…and one day she would make this family of assholes pay. Dearly.

Gently listened to Karone's voice, mostly falling to sleep while she was speaking, but not missing the meaning in her words. She smiled softly, sighing and feeling a lot of the stress from her rather bad day easing away.
It was easy to want to believe her. To think that maybe this was okay, and life could be simple and pleasant, and the two of them deserved moments of happiness like this. Maybe they did, who knew?
Classic definitions of what made a good guy and a bad guy had never really mattered to Painite. She always said, and firmly believed, that she was called 'bad' because she liked what she did, and it did not really mesh well with what others liked to do. So she was called evil and insane? If that was what they wanted to call her, she would play that role. She was just being herself, and doing the things that seemed like she was made for.
It never really occurred to her that, after all that had happened over the years, the terrible things she caused and the terrible things she suffered, someone might actually still want to be near her. Be her friend and not just around her because they were scared. Someone might still want to invest in her, and be loyal, where loyalty had never been a part of her life. Always, it seemed, she ended up betrayed. Abandoned.
It scared her that this might end the same way, and that fear was usually enough to keep her well sealed off from connecting with anyone. This time, though, she wanted to just let things happen.
Sighing, she let go and fell to sleep with a smile on her face.
