Exhaustion had her collapsing, falling over onto sand. Sand that she had thought she was moving away from. Apparently not. Slowly she looked around her and puffed out a breath before putting it back down and closing her eyes. From what she could tell, she had moved horizontally from where she had washed ashore, sticking to the ground that was just outside of the sand. Until she was in the sand again.

Not that she minded the sand, because she didn't. Sand meant ocean and the ocean was a very nice thing to her.

Exhaustion and strain on her muscles had her feeling pain everywhere, not just her head or stomach. The sand wasn't all that comfortable either.

She wasn't getting any closer to drinking water as far as she could tell. And she was causing herself more pain by trying to get there. She just didn't have the energy to move forward right now. And she really didn't have the energy to stay here in the sand that was making it difficult to even nap.

Opening her eyes, she rolled her body toward the ocean and the waves lapping against the shore. At least there she would be comfortable. Having made her decision, she rolled all the way down to the water, undoing her progress - horizontal though it was. The cool waves lapped at her sand covered fur, sticky with sweat and washed her clean.

Smiling, she felt better already. She hadn't noticed when she had first fallen how the tide seemed to be coming back in, but being in the water again, she noted it. She was washed ashore when the waves had been receding, and the little progress she had made had taken her until now when the waves here getting higher and more frequent. That was kind of - well pathetic in her opinion.

She allowed the lapping water and crashing waves to wash over her and relax her. Closing her eyes once again.

Kaikane found himself tossing broken shells back into the waters as he walked. One, two, three, four... The lion counted quietly as he tossed one last shell into the waves. While the pride was up and thriving again after the tsunami that hit many moons ago Kaikane still found himself wondering. When would the waves wash over them again?

Gods only knew exactly what the waves would be spitting up at the pride again then. Kaikane sighedas he walked along. Here I am on patrol just wish washing for something to happen. Most would probably enjoy the peace and quiet, but the lion was yearning for something more. It was probably the reason that he often got swept up into the silly bets that the other guards would make. How long he could stay under the waves for, how far out he could go, how deep he could dive, if he could retrieve something that was thrown...all those little things to play around with. He wasn't like his father who was satisfied with the calm. Kai wasn't a healer, he was a warrior and he longed to prove himself.

"I suppose it wouldn't hurt to dive in." He eyed the ocean before turning to scan along the beaches. It seemed calm enough and there were no enemies on the horizons. If there were he would be in shock honestly. Smirking at the thought of it the lion walked down towards the water's edge. It was about then as the waves lapped at his paws that the large lion noticed the dead body. What is that? Was it just an illusion of seaweed or was someone really there?

Without hesitation Kaikane started to walk through the waters until he was slowly covered up, "Hey, hey!" His golden gaze was urgent as he moved to get closer to the lioness, "Wake up, you can't sleep here!" The tide would come in and then she really would have no chance. He just hoped that he wasn't too late and that it was a living body he was talking to. Either way he planned to drag her out of the waters once he reached her.

The loudness jarred her. She squeezed her eyes shut even more against the assault on her. The voice sounded concerned but it made her head ache more, it also made her sore muscle tense up and ache. "Shhh." She uttered, not even strong enough to get much louder than a muttering. Not that she would want to get louder than that. Her shush echoed in her brain as well. Everything was ammunition for that blasted headache colonizing her brain. Every inch of it. "Not so loud." She didn't move, she couldn't move as she tried to fight past the pain to even open her eyes. Everything was triggering more pain via that headache.

Able to get one eye to squint open at the voice, she tried to smile at the lion she found there. "I'm not sleeping." Though if she could have, she would have. It was easier being in a sleep period then a wake period. Wake periods brought her to land and made headaches apparent.

Heaving a big sigh, she closed her eye again and concentrated on standing up. She wobbled a tad, but it was easier here in the water than it had been on land. Probably had something to do with the water taking some of her weight. The waves were still crashing around her, getting higher and she really wanted to let them wash over her. Maybe it would help drain the pain away and out to sea where it could feed hungry sharks or something. Obviously she owed the ocean and those sea predators something since she hadn't been eaten by them. They could have her pain. It was fat juicy bit that a shark could devour. How would the little annoying headache like that.

"There." She whispered to the lion. The water felt nice as the water got higher and the waves reached further onto the beach. "I'm standing. Can't sleep standing. Is that better?" The question was genuine. She didn't like hearing the concern and worry in the lion's voice. She didn't know why. She didn't know the lion, but she didn't like the sound of him worried about her in any way. "I'm standing and fighting the pain by standing. That's got to be better, right?"

Kaikane frowned at the female's reaction. Surely she wasn't purposefully letting the waves take her? I know some in the Bahari don't mind drifting, but this is a bit dangerous. It was as he got closer that the lion began to notice the danger. This lioness didn't seem to be actively floating. If she hadn't spoken to him then he truly would have mistaken her for a corpse adrift in the waves. Actually now he was worried that if he didn't act soon she would quickly fit the description he had for her.

"I see that." He lowered his voice as he splashed in the waves around her. This was bad the tide was truly starting to roll in now and he wasn't that experienced with carrying another body. Still Kaikane was determined. What sort of guard am I if I can't even drag someone to safety? Surely this was no different than half of those crazy challenges he had participated in growing up.

He breathed a sigh of relief as he saw her wobble to her paws in the water. Awkward how she seemed so natural standing against the moving waters...better than some Bahari even. Perhaps she was native to the ocean after all then? Not in the pride though I think I would recognize that spotted pattern. It was rather cute when he noticed it, but the lion had to shake his head. This was not the best time to be looking at someone like that!

Kaikane actually smiled at her actions, "Yes, it's better." Still he shifted into the waters until he was right next to the lioness, "Now get onto my back." Water splashed into his face as he bent down to assist her, but the lion was used to the taste of salt water by now. Too many days of swimming in the ocean had taught him that, "I'll get you to a place where we can actually let you rest, okay?"

Distracted by the waves and the pain of her headache, she didn't notice how close the lion was at first. At least not until he instructed her to climb onto his back. And that made her jump. Which of course jarred the headache even more. Which distracted her from landing properly which required care because of her sore muscles. So rather than landing on her feet, she needed up twisting and falling into the lion before splashing into the waves with an eep.

The taste of salt wasn't new. She didn't even note it considering her journey here carried on the currents of the ocean's salty waters. The little bit she swallowed with that eep was nothing.

It could have been worse. Despite the new pain in her ankle now as she pushed her head above the surface to breath, she admitted that much to herself. If the ocean hadn't been there to catch her, she could have fallen and possibly broken her leg. She really didn't need that. As carefully as she could, she stood on three legs and skyly looked up at the giant lion. "Sorry." That was embarrassing. What lioness 'eep'ed?

"Ok. If it's not too much trouble. And then maybe you could tell me where there's fresh water?"

She put her fourth leg down as she turned to climb onto the giant's back, but as soon as there was pressure the pain sky rocketed. She screeched out a roar, quickly lifting the hurt paw and unbalancing herself. Which of course caused her to fall back into the water again.

Kaikane had to hold back his curses as the lioness startled herself and was tossed by the waves into him. This one is definitely going to be a hassle. He decided as he used his bigger frame to steady himself in the moving waters. Kai had to hold himself back as she floundered in the water around him. What if he disturbed her more? The last thing he wanted was to lose her to the moving tides.

He just shook her head at the apology, "Don't worry about it eep." He named her a hint of playfulness showing despite the urgency the tides were making him feel, "Don't worry I'll take you to fresh water, but we have to get out of the ocean first."

This lioness really might be the death of him. Groaning as she slipped away from him again Kai turned back into the waves. If she's in such bad pain that she's does that then she can't climb... Was the water deep enough here?Taking a few more steps out he found himself slipping deeper into the ocean. This was better...and just like a fish the lion slipped under the waves.

As close as he was to the sandy bottom it didn't matter as the tides were pulling them both out towards the deeper waters. Kaikane was experienced with swimming in the waves though and easily navigated towards where the lioness was. Slipping beneath her he pulled up towards fresh air, "Don't you dare move a muscle." He commented sharply to the lioness he had managed to catch on his back, "I'll get us to shore if you behave."
