(Back dating this to before his kidnapping.)

Moving across the grass his head was tipped back, watching the nights sky. He didn't worry about people or bees or anything else this was not a time for people to be roaming about a botanical garden like he was. Behind him was a hill upon which was a large, and vast, green house and it was in there which he'd arrived. The back door of the green house he'd had to teleport out of and than the walk down the elegant steps that went down the hill. Stone steps that elegantly curled at the bottom and were topped with large plant holders. The grounds were designed to look like palace gardens and they did accomplish just that.

It was through the maze of privet bushes that he found the mazes center and the garden which waited there. A fountain bubbling and plants all around, the scent from the flowers heady and strong as it filled his nose and had him giving a peaceful sigh. This center area had a bench, which the General approached, and flowers of white and pale purples and light blue hues. A few spots of other colors stood out but it was perfect, it was elegant, and nothing loud color wise. Unclasping his cape and removing his coat he laid both over the benches back and laid himself across the benches seat. Eyes stared upward with one arm going back to pillow his head, his other arm resting across his gray vest covered midsection.

It was nice to be here - it was perfect. He'd been so busy lately, both in and out of his powered life, that the peace he could find here was treasured by the young adult as he shifted and stretched out his petite form. He didn't worry about anyone coming here and finding him, he didn't worry at all here, as he let his eyes slip closed eye.

Her meeting with Europa had re-introduced Polaris to the botanical gardens, and ever since then.. she'd felt the pulling desire to return again. To actually take a look around.. to enjoy the scent and the ambiance of the tranquil gardens.

For days she had been good and stayed away, there were just so many more pressing things to do, but on this evening as she found herself traveling near the gardens she just couldn't talk herself out of it. She had dusted a youma earlier so.. at least it wasn't a completely wasted evening.

It'd taken a simple, but magical, jump to clear the fence, but once she was inside she was greeted by peacefulness and the soft perfume of fresh flowers. And the gorgeous glitter of fireflies. Her path was meandering, in no big rush nor headed in any particular direction. She simply followed wherever her eyes or nose wanted to take her, and for a few moments it felt like the stress and worries of the past few days were melting away.

When she spotted the maze, she picked up the pace a little, her fingers reaching to touch the carefully manicured bushes gently, a smile on her face as she thought of Alice in Wonderland. It was at that moment however, that the Chaotic signature finally hit her, jarring her from her thoughts and peace.

Her brows furrowed, trying to figure out the direction the aura was coming from, hard to believe that it could be as close as it was. Was there someone actually in the garden with her? What kind of nefarious deeds could they be doing in here?

As she reached the center Polaris had the good sense to peek and as she thought, she did see another figure. Only he hardly seemed to be up to anything nefarious. And it was someone she knew at that. She could tell who it was even in his partial state of undress.

Benitoite.

For a moment she lingered, almost uncertain what she should do. He'd always seemed like one of the more reasonable Negaverse Generals.. but he had try to kill one of her knights... But he was kind of.. vunerable right now.. It seemed kind of inappropriate to attack him while he laid there completely open to it. And she really really didn't want to wreck the beautiful place she'd rediscovered.

Finally she stepped out from behind the bush, making deliberate effort to make her footsteps heard, her voice cutting through the silence, a soft musing. "Working hard I see."

He'd felt the aura of order brushing against his senses, telling him someone was near by, but he'd ignored it. He didn't figure someone here would seek him out for a fight, it was too nice an evening and what would they be doing here? It seemed a random place and not one where a youma would be found so he doubted them to be youma hunting here. So he'd ignored it, even as it got closer, let them come and he'd go from there if they tried to attack.

What he wasn't expecting was footsteps and than a voice. One that he couldn't place but when his eyes opened he knew who it was. He may have only run into them twice but a princess, and one who was so lovely, was hard to forget if not impossible. Shifting, so he lay more on his side, his head lifted and the arm under it moving to support his head. "Ah, yes...I am working quite hard." He stated before moving his head to hide a yawn against his supporting arm.

Turning his attention back to her he managed a curious look at her. "And what of yourself? This is hardly a place I'd figure to see a senshi. No youma to dust, no people to save...just flowers and I doubt any of them here are in need of saving." He didn't speak with a loud voice, it was much too peaceful and calm for such a thing, and he didn't seem anything but relaxed and calm as he lay there watching her.

She couldn't help herself but smile when he responded that he was indeed working. Boys were so ridiculous.. And before she could stop herself Polaris found herself joking back, her finger lifting to her lips as if she was telling him a secret. "I'm shirking my duties for a tiny bit. Though I suppose if you can tell me something interesting I can write it off as a lunch meeting."

Maybe it was the surroundings... maybe it was his relaxed posture and how.. human he seemed. Whatever it was, any feelings of malice were shifted momentarily to the back burner and she stopped a few yards from him, shifting to rest most of her weight on one foot.

"I guess great minds think alike." The eternal senshi motioned to the garden around them as she inhaled another deep breath of the fragrant blooms. She really shouldn't be lingering around if he was here... Or she supposed she really really should have been running him off or hunting him down. But.. the thought of having to leave the gardens right after she'd gotten there.. ughh..

"Garden truce?" She offered after a moment. "I won't do anything funny if you don't?"

Raising a brow he swung his legs around so his feet settled onto the grass below. Sitting up he motioned her to join him as there was no other place to sit; aside from the grass. "Perhaps great minds do think alike, at least at some points." He stated while he lifted one leg and rested his chin on his knee. he was small, short, and seemed younger and smaller than he was in that moment. He didn't seem the General he was nor did he seem to be twenty years old either and yet he was both those things. He was a killer and yet did he seem it here and now? He didn't think on any such things now though.

"Of course, I wouldn't dare ruin a garden. I rather like nature if we're being honest." He spoke sincerely. He had a set of ten green fingers and a love for plants of all kinds. It was a love he'd had for a long time and it wasn't about to leave him any time soon.

"It has been a long time since I last laid eyes on you. Tell me, you've fared well?" He questioned her, eyes looking her over and wishing for that lovely dress she wore but knowing that aura would only bring others flocking here and he wasn't about to have his evening ruined.

She didn't expect him to move, and especially didn't expect to be offered a seat. And for a long moment she lingered in her spot, not moving. Polaris knew first hand how quickly and easily it was for a Negaverse agent to put their hand in someone's chest. And even if she was a princess.. could she fight him off if he attempted a starseed grab. The last time her starseed had been handled she'd been almost paralyzed.

But he seemed so... unassuming right now. Every bit of his posture was loose. His youth and size very apparent minus the bits and pieces of his uniform. She had been the one to suggest the momentary truce.. she supposed she might as well show a little faith.

"That's good to know, I guess. A love of nature, and animals in particular, tends to be a sign of a compassionate person." Approaching the bench she settled herself as far as she could from him on the bench letting one hand come to rest over her starseed, as if it might possibly provide some protection. Her knees primly together, given her unfortunately short skirt.

She was taken a little a back as he asked how she'd been, not at all accustomed to quite this friendly of conversation with the enemy. And in her mind she was carefully considering what she could tell him. Definately not about her engagement. That would just put a target on Niflhel's back. And nothing that could link her identity.. or put her friends in danger.

"I had a death in the family that had me out of commission for a little while." The information seemed safe enough, especially considering that it had occured outside Destiny City. "But that's how life is sometimes..." It was the sentiment of someone who had lost quite a few in her lifetime.

"So I'm just recovering from that and getting back into the swing of things. Things are well enough."

"How about you?" It was so strange.. but it seemed the polite thing to say.

Turning his attention on the senshi as she joined him on the bench he watched her. It was because he was watching that he noticed where her hand went and he shook his head and smiled. "You're safe, I assure you. If I wanted to have your starseed I'd already have made an attempt - I can teleport remember." He could have gotten behind her already and sunk his hand into her chest. It wouldn't have been all that hard honestly, he was more than capable at this point. Maybe letting her know that he really wasn't interested would set her more at ease? He could hope.

"A love of nature and a skill with it. My mother taught me and I went beyond what she knew. I made it a job for a while and now a hobby." A passion by the way he spoke of it. He kept one knee held to his chest, the other foot just touching the ground. He was short for his age, already would be, and if he sat all the way back on the bench as he was the tip of his boot just touched the ground.

"I'm sorry for your loss. I do hope you've had the proper time to recover before entering back into this war." He was sincere. Loss of loved ones was a lot and it hurt. he'd almost lost his own mother and in a way he'd lost Johnathan - Bazzite - and both had hurt and Bazzite still hurt but he'd worked around it.

"Life takes people from us that we care about, it's how life goes. Life than death with various things in between." Shrugging his shoulders he flashed her a smile. "I almost lost my mother...I lost an officer who was close to me...an accident - my mistake." She had asked about how he was doing and he was answering and the emotion came through. "Did you know that you can take a person starseed out of the body and shatter it and the person just dies? They'll never be reborn. But...if you shatter it inside of them you get a youma?" He questioned before he shook his head slowly. "I didn't...I didn't know I could power someone up either, make a Captain into a General. I found out...so did Bazzite." The implications, what he was admitting to...he was risking a lot by saying such a thing. She could be horrified, no doubt she would be, and turn on him to attack him. it was information she could give to others but he didn't care if she did, he'd told others before.

"I suppose it's a good thing...to learn of death, to see it, and to suffer. If what some of us, perhaps you as well, saw is in our future than it's a good way to prepare I suppose." A lot of death and loss was to come if that future came to pass. But he was determined to try and prevent it.

"Another officer, one I brought into the Negaverse, became part youma and I've not seen them in a long time...we'd been close for a short time.." The light staining to his cheeks, a pink hue, perhaps told the other part to that, that which didn't pass his lips. "That's passed as well and a good thing." A good thing because he'd found someone new.

He was right... Because she dealt most often with youma or officers that were retreating, Polaris often forgot about their teleportation, or rather how it could be used in such a strategical fashion. It was a scary thought really.. that she could be walking around at any time and someone could teleport behind her and sneak attack her at any moment. It actually sent a mild shudder through her. But in the end his words had the effect he was looking for and her hand slipped downward from her chest, coming to rest instead in her lap.

She was still a little lost in her thoughts about starseeds. With questions about how the Negaverse had developed such a scary technique. And why they needed starseeds.. why exactly they felt it in their right just to take them when they wanted. But as he spoke of nature, and what she assumed was gardening, she was drawn out of them, regarding him with a thoughtful look. His features were delicate and his demeanor seemingly soft at the moment. She could imagine him tenderly attending to plants or small animals. At the moment it was actually harder to imagine the young man as a brutal murderer even thought she knew full well in the back of her head that he was entirely capable. Had to be to be a General in this war.

"I grew up on a ranch myself.. but I never did any of the work with the animals or crops. My skills were always more along the domestic side." Her own small share. "I especially love baking."

Surreal was the most appropriate word to explain how she felt in this moment. Fraternizing with the enemy... Being offered a, seemingly sincere, condolence from someone she had quite literally tried to smash with a car. She was almost to the point of offering him sympathy as he spoke of almost losing his mother, she of course knew that pain from childhood, and the loss of a friend and teammate.

But at that very moment he mentioned one of the most heinous crimes, her heart wrenching and stomach turning. Of course she knew that you could shatter a starseed and what would become of the person when that happened. Her shoulders had visibly stiffened in fact as he spoke. But then the conversation had taken a turn. It was possible to create a youma in such a way...? "I didn't know you could create youma like that.." The emotion and weight on the young man's voice was obvious and again the senshi was lost in a wave of emotional choices. Disgust and fear, her usual reaction to anything that dealt with starseed manipulation.. or sympathy and empathy at a person who had obviously made a mistake and had paid the price for it.

Empathy won out.

"I..." A pause. "I made a horrible mistake once." Her eyes drifted outwards, seeming to forget the fact that she should be keeping her eyes carefully on him. "In my exuberance.. with my powers... I accidentally started a grease fire outside a small family restaurant. There were so many people inside.. Children.. a whole extended family." Her fists had clenched, her voice catching momentarily in her throat as she seemed to be thinking back at what could have been.

"I was able to save them all in the end.." It was the night she became a Princess. "By the grace of my star I was able to will enough power to keep the building from collapsing on us until everyone was safely out..." Her eyes had drifted to the North Star up above them, her star, the strange space rock that had taken care of her in more ways over the past years then she could say she'd returned. "But I can't help but feel that was luck.. that I almost had the blood of all those innocent people on my hands.."

"My powers are so strong, stronger and more deadly than most... but they can turn badly so quickly if I don't keep a check on them."

And then it hit her... why had she just said all of that? Why had she fed him all of that information. Information that made her weaker... that informed him of the vunerable parts of her that he could take advantage of? Her teeth gritted with her mistake, the glistening that had touched her eyes in whistful sadness, not becoming tears of anger a she chided her own stupidity.

When he mentioned the future a large sigh left her, rattling through her chest. "That's not going to be our future if we don't let it."

"I didn't actually see it.." Another failure on her part. "But from what I've heard there have already been contradictions. The future isn't set in stone."

"It is something we all learn - what shattering a starseed inside a person can do. I did not know however that what I did would cause such. I still remember it - all of it. Certain events in peoples lives we will never forget, even in age, we will remember with startling clarity and emotion. I fear this is one of those memories for me...and from the sound of it that fire is one for you."

As he heard her story, silent, he couldn't understand how her powers could cause a fire, but he didn't interrupt more than he already had. Instead he raised one gloved hand and rested it on her shoulder. That was not something he'd ever want to remember, especially had he been unable to save all those lives. He was glad she'd been able to rescue them all.

"That's good...that you were able to accomplish that. For all the power chaos has given me I couldn't have done that. i'd have had to run in and gotten to everyone and teleported them; all at once preferably. Teleporting takes a lot out of us, the more we teleport, the further, and the amount of people taken with us. There are limitations to it though I doubt many senshi or knights know that. But I'd have likely passed out after teleporting a whole family out." Putting him in a very weak and vulnerable position - but he'd have done it. It was the right thing to do and to let lives be lost...he wouldn't have been able to live with himself peacefully. "It is good that you had enough power to keep that building from falling and you got them all out to safety. Perhaps it was luck but I doubt it. Not if you were able to call that power, not if you can again. Then it is not luck but power and skill." To be able to hold enough composure, to hold your focus enough, with a burning building right there and be able to hold the building together. That took a lot.

Nodding his head he smiled when she mentioned the future, that it wouldn't happen as he'd seen it. "No, I know about it ahead of time and I'm starting to play my role sooner in it and with the knowledge I have I hope to change the tide - to avoid it." Pulling his hand away from her he stood slowly from his seat. A few steps taken before he turned to face her. A gray vest over a black shirt, lace sleeves that flared about his wrists, and gloves on his hands. He didn't look as regal as he did when the coat and cape were also worn.

"Believe it or not I did not join the Negaverse to bring about some dystopian world. I joined for good reasons - I was lied to apparently. Now that I've seen the path chaos seeks I am slowly taking action against such, though it is hard on my own." He was admitting his disloyalty, something which could get him killed. He knew it and his nervous had started to kick in as gloved fingers ran though his hair, pulling the hair holder out and sending his hair about his face. His slate eyes wandered around for a moment, as if he might see something he couldn't sense. "I joined to fight for freedom, at first just mine, from a moon queen who could come back and take over. It expanded though, soon after, to include the young and old and those who could not fight. I would fight for their freedom also.: Once more did it expand to include everyone not involved in the war. I have not bled, killed, nearly been killed, and given so much to live in a world under big brother with civilians nothing more than energy cattle." It was not what he had signed up for and not something he could or would ever support. He was on the side which wanted all those things however.

"What have you heard of it? What do you know of the future we were doomed to have?" He questioned, his eyes settling on her finally. This was a dangerous conversation to have in the open - to have anywhere really. Worse yet was he was having this conversation with a senshi, a royal, and was openly admitting to being disloyal to his sides goals. If she let it slip...he'd be captured and tortured and killed or just killed. No matter what it would be public among the Negaverse, a lesson for them all to learn. His death in the future had been public and been made a lesson. A General King who was a traitor...even the highest ranked members could be disloyal - trust no one. Yes...such a lesson he'd been made.

"I still remember dying...the hand in my chest, grasping my starseed and removing it. The tears and words spoken in a whisper between myself and my killer, someone I in the future brought into the Negaverse. At least she didn't turn me into a youma - I'd have been bound to her." Shaking his head with a choked out laugh. "That would have been the perfect punishment. Just enough of me left within the new form of a youma. Forced to watch the world continue on as they had formed it, and unable to do anything." Turning on his heel, perhaps in a show of trust or perhaps because he wasn't thinking, he gave away more information as another lesson fell from his lips.

"When an officer creates a youma, as I did by accident, they are bound to the officer who made them. They become..almost like a pet. They take orders, think of our well being, seek to please us for the most part. They have a personality, thankfully, but it's not the same as it once was. They have moments, glimmers, where the person they were shines through but then an instant later that glimmer is gone - replaced by the youma as they talk of crunchies, those being starseeds, and wanting to go find some. To deny them you feel like you're starving a dog or cat. But you know that even while they take your orders and follow you, that you're connected to them, you know that someone of a higher rank can order them about as well - order them against you. Anyone young rank can try and they can refuse, so you're safe in some ways, and the lower ranks...well they can be ignored. I was saved from becoming that in the future - a small blessing I suppose." But he had been killed in the most public of ways. He didn't wake up so often from nightmares of it but they still happened on occasion. He could still feel it, still work up in tears and shaking. Another thing he'd remember in clarity and never forget. He was collecting such memories and none were good ones.

"I can answer some questions you have - provided I have the answer." Turning his head to look over his shoulder at the seated senshi.

It was true. That night was a memory she'd never forget. The twelve lives that had been in her hands, their faces were forever etched in her memory. It had been a while since she'd had a nightmare for raining fire and pieces of ceiling, but on occasion they found her.

"I agree.. certain memories have a weight that can never be lessened. At least we can honor those memories and mistakes by doing our very best not to repeat them." Polaris had thought Benitoite to be wise for quite awhile, but the conversation was only confirming it. She didn't know if he was actually as young as he looked, but if so he was wise beyond his years.. but then.. war did offer insights to a person that they might never have seen otherwise.

Her eyes traveled to his hand as it was placed on her, cautiously, but she didn't flinch upon contact, nor did she attempt to withdraw even as it lingered. They actually seemed to have a lot in common and that just made her sadder the longer he spoke. Many of the words he spoke echo'd her own thoughts and feelings. They shared the desire to protect people, the most important desire of all. But how could someone in the Negaverse really feel that way..? Didn't his job everyday contradict his supposed desires?

"Why don't you just purify then?" It was a little blunt, but in her mind she was having a hard time accepting how he could speak the thoughtful and compassionate words he did while at the same time wanting to stay in the Negaverse.

"If you're waiting for a moon queen she isn't coming. I've seen the holographic remains of the previous queen. Even Chibimoon is gone. The only one taking over the world is your bosses." Even without having the dreams she'd gotten that impression. Heck, the things he was saying seemed to imply that.

They were hard questions that she surely didn't expect an answer to. Atleast not one that befit this tranquil place and their garden truce.

The information he was giving she knew snippets of, vague ideas, but he was going far further into it then she'd ever known. There was a limit to teleportation? Probably a lot like teleporting to their homeworlds..

And while she knew that youma were once humans.. the horrifying details of his experience were entirely new and all the more heart wrenching. She had often thought that being a corrupted senshi was the worst possible fate. It seemed that youma might have been worse...

Polaris picked up his nervousness and caution, her posture changing as she listened to his.. almost traitorous words. She wanted to know what he knew, even if she had very little to offer in return.

"Hold on..." It was her turn to stand, finger lifting to her lips as if to try and silence him. And she didn't seem in a hurry to continue the conversation just yet, instead taking a step towards him.

"Do you trust me?" It was a stupid question. Why would he possibly trust her? She was a senshi and then had a past that had been at times violent. And she seemed to realize that. "What I mean is... I would like to take you someplace more private. Someplace safer."

"I promise you no harm will come to you, I'll deliver you back in this garden tonight no worse for wear." Would he bite..? She wasn't entirely sure, but she hoped he would.

"You are going to want your coat however if you agree..."

Two people of similar minds, who could sit and talk with some amount of ease, and yet they wore very different uniforms. Her's was of order and his of chaos, though he didn't think that chaos fit the Negaverse not with what their plans were. No...evil perhaps or darkness or disorder. But not chaos..though disorder didn't fit either really. The words "Why don't you just purify then?' rang through his mind and he shook his head and flashed a smile.

"I've taken the uniform I took and I am loyal..to the faction - not the goals of the faction...nor the means. I am loyal to why I joined." And he knew he could purify, he could ask her right now and he could change uniforms but at what cost? He'd gone over it before and it wasn't a price he'd pay. He would go down the same path he had in the future.

"I can't...to give up my memories...to become less than I am now?" Shaking his head once more he racked his fingers through his hair. "No. I would risk losing my family, friends, job, home...everything. I can't...to live not knowing who my family and friends are whilst knowing they are out there? To put them through the loss of me? No...I could not do that to them. And if not those memories than I forget about my mistakes..about Bazzite...and other losses and lessons learned. No one else was there when Bazzite became a youma. To forget that is as if it never happened - as if he never lost his humanity and his life. One less person to remember who he was...and to mourn the loss. No, I can't give up my memories...the good and the bad ones. They are all necessary for personal growth." And yet he was not so loyal but he still raised a hand and pointed to his uniform.

"Flowers used to have a language all there own. They were used to communicate messages from one person to another. Which flowers, the colors, and which hand was used to give them to another person. Which plants were in your garden and in what order...closest to furthest from the door. Ivy meant loyalty and fidelity...it's fitting for me I suppose. I am loyal..." At least where it mattered, to him anyway. "Just know that I am one who can be trusted...I am loyal to me...and to why I joined." His loyalty wasn't to anything else.

He had never met this..chibimoon but her being gone seemed to be a good thing from what Polaris said. How did the senshi feel about her being gone? had they been friends? Had they spent time together shopping? talking? Other such activities. He didn't ask but he did wonder for a moment.

Watching her stand up and approach him, ask if he trusted her. Laughter fell from his lips before he felt them pull into a smile. "If I didn't I'd not be speaking so candidly with you. I trust you..." And as she suggested his uniform he went to grab coat and cape. Pulling both on the cape was clasped with well practiced ease. Turning back toward her, as his back had been to her whilst he'd donned his full uniform, he nodded once. "Alright...lets go to this place and we can continue to speak." Maybe one day he'd show her what teleporting was like? It might one evening be needed.

If this were all a lie.. a carefully crafted trap woven by an obviously intelligent strategist, he still could not have picked better words then the ones that he spoke. He would also have been a fabulous actor, as the emotion he showed moved and swayed the senshi's own emotions in response.

The way he spoke of loyalty was beautiful. It was not blind loyalty, something she assumed most of the Negaverse had to have succumb to. It was loyalty to an ideal.. to something very important to him.. something that didn't sound terrible or evil. And it was a loyalty he was willing to fight for. He had a cross that he had chosen to bear. There were so many easier choices.. Purify and forget.. Let himself be consumed by Chaos and let it burn the morality and empathy from him. Had had made a specific choice, chosen something to fight for. Even if it was hard. Excruciating. Even if he had to walk that path completely alone.

She too had her own cross. A solitary promise that she intended to keep, a weight to bare so that others would not have to.

As he confirmed his trust of her and prepared himself she neared, breaking her silence finally as her both of her gloved hands clasped around one of his own. It was only two words. But those words, and the look in her eyes, spoke volumes. "I understand."
