  • Other Features | He hasn't bothered to cut his hair in a long time, and as a result, it's now somewhat shaggy and reaches below his collarbone. Aleksandr does, however, keep a short beard, complete with mustache, as his lover of ancient times was if the opinion that he looked better with one. His brows almost are almost always subconsciously furrowed into an expression of concentration. Similarly, rare is the day that Aleksandr smiles, his mouth seemingly set in a perpetual frown.

  • Personality | For the most part, Aleksandr is a fairly solemn and serious man, though his morbid sense of humor rises to the surface on occasions. While not outright hostile, he's fairly antisocial. He considers himself a dedicated scholar and has a tendency to 'tsk' in annoyance whenever he is asked to cease his mediation to accomplish a task. Once very actively trying to better the world through the influence of his former position, Aleksandr's experiences and long life have since shifted his worldview into a strange hybrid of natural optimism and hard-learned cynicism. He highly values peace, quiet and knowledge, and interruptions in the pursuit of those ideals will generally earn his ire. Aleksandr is well-spoken, but his tone is generally fast and sharp, giving him a harsh speech pattern.
  • Hobbies | Aleksandr spends his days meditating and reading, but he also takes regular patrols through the forest as part of his duty. With an extremely wide variety of specimens available throughout the forest, he's long been a practitioner of alchemy.
  • Likes | Reading, quiet, meditation, alchemy, windy days and not much else
  • Dislikes | Other people, loud noises, interruptions during his meditation, and a great many other things
  • Goals | None in particular
  • Fears | Also none in particular, though his time with the trees has made him rather disdainful of fire
  • History | As a native of Athens, Aleksandr Nikos drastically preferred the pursuit of intellectual and spiritual endeavors to serving and fighting in the city-state's shorthand army, but when he was discovered to be particularly blessed by Athena, having a mind incredibly gifted at strategy and tactics, he did not dare spurn her gift, instead making great use of it for the glory of Athena.

When another Greek city-state, Epirus, decided to launch an ill-fated invasion of Rome, they were joined by their ally, Athens -- much to the reluctant Aleksandr's dismay. When the Greek incursion subsequently failed and Epirus was taken in retribution, Aleksandr was very much aware that the Athenian politicians would be searching for a scapegoat upon whom they could lay the blame of the catastrophic defeat, and as both a party who had protested the war to begin with and a commander in the battle, he knew he was a prime target for their misguided wrath. With his only other option a highly public execution, Aleksandr fled the city he loved...

But it was not be. During his would-be escape, Aleksandr was set upon by a Roman patrol searching for survivors; for the wrath of Rome was terrible indeed, and none should withstand her fury. Forcefully escorted to a large legionary camp to await punishment alongside a number of mercenaries and other routed soldiers, Aleksandr prayed to every god he knew for deliverance. They were not listening, but someone was. Camping on the borders of a forest was dangerous indeed, but none could have expected the fury of the wilds that burst from the treeline that night. Countless savage wolves stormed the camp, completely overtaking the shocked patrols and causing a mass confusion and the chance Aleksandr needed. Taking full advantage of the chaos, Aleksandr slipped from the camp into the woods, where he found that he was not alone.

A woman stood near, her hand resting atop the largest wolf he'd ever laid eyes on. He sunk to his knees, not in despair as one might expect from a ragged man faced with his death, but in awe of the sheer power her presence exuded. The woman smiled, offering him a hand; she had heard the cries of a righteous man, and she was his deliverance. The woman beckoned for Aleksandr to follow, and wary but too exhausted to do otherwise, he followed her. For days on end, it seemed their journey went. Aleksandr was very near collapsing when his companion stopped in front of the most gargantuan tree he had ever laid his eyes on, stretching impossibly far into the sky. This, she explained, was the heart of this primordial, ancient forest. It was her home and, if he accepted her offer, his as well. The woman at last introduced herself as a druid, but her name was not one that Aleksandr's tongue could reproduce. She explained that in return for becoming a warden of her forest, she would see him gifted with immortality, but warned him that he would become mortal again should he stray too far from the forest's boundaries. With no home to return to, Aleksandr accepted his offer, a name for his new mistress coming to mind as he knelt to swear her an oath, the Greek word for wisdom: Sofia.
