Having finally worked out their schedules enough to make time to go to the aquarium, three losers went through the portal to the Baltimore National Aquarium for a day of No Suffering™ and fun.
Scout had never actually been stateside, so to visit an aquarium there was exciting. She'd long since gotten used to being surrounded by American accents, so the sounds didn't put her on edge so much as just being in a crowd did.
She'd chosen to sport a baseball cap with a puffy ponytail through the back of it today, along with a sweartshirt, jean shorts and a pair of scuffed converse. It was, thankfully, rather cool in Baltimore as it was one of those freak temperate days in the middle of summer.
Standing just inside the park entrance (having already paid for their tickets and what not), Scout looked at the other two and began fumbling through the visitor's map they'd been given.

As with most things, Abbi was really, really excited. Today she was bit more on the side of practically vibrating with her excitement, but in her defense it was because she just really loved aquariums.
She had taken care with her appearance today, donning a pale blue sailor dress, which felt applicable because it was marine inclined! Paired with her ever present pastel thigh high's and some cute shoes, Abbi completed the look by tying bows around her pigtails and accessorizing with pearl hair pins. She was taking the ocean theme seriously.
"Oh man, I am super excited I think I'm gonna die." Abbi gushed as she followed dutifully after Scout, skipping in her steps to keep up. The rabbit backpack was readjusted and Abbi gasped, having totally forgotten the shopping bag she carried with her. "I got you guys presents!" She chirped, setting the bag down once they'd stopped inside the entrance. A bit of digging around produced two animal shaped backpacks, one a chubby bird and the other a shark with an impressive amount of felt teeth. "I thought they'd be fun, and we can all match! Sort of..." The bird was offered to Scout, and the shark to Dawson. Once taken, Abbi whirled around to wiggle her rabbit one at them before she burst into laughter.

He felt a little guilty taking some time off to go vacay with the girls for a day, but, well, maybe he deserved some leave. Dawson had only used it thus far to join Americlone on her boat and to get supplies, and with July running down, he might as well have made use of the remaining hours anyway...and maybe being off island and near cool sea creatures would help put his ever anxious mind at ease.
"Aww, lookit them!" he cooed over the gifts with a smile. "Y'should'n'tve, sugar cube, thank you!" With his shark-themed cap on and his newly acquired matching backpack on his shoulders, Dawson was ready to dive into the wonderful world of the aquarium.
He looked to Scout with the map. "Where ya'll wanna head first? Maybe one've 'em's got a feedin' we could see?"

Scout stared at her bag as though Abbi had handed her baby Jesus himself. In awe, but slightly terrified she might drop it and break it.
"Thank you," she said slowly and completely, fumbling to take off her purse so she could shove it inside this amazing present, put it on her back and sparkle quietly in the back of the group for the next 10 minutes. It was her very first present since coming to the island and from Abbi no less. It was important to her.
She handed over the map and let the other two decide where to go. She wasn't a deciding sort.
On the map there were four main areas; deep sea, ocean predators, coral reefs and the animal trick shows (dolphins, orcas and sea lions were all on the list!). Lastly, of course, was the gift shop. ayeavast i have never been to this aquarium i am making things up shh

Very little topped, at least in Abbi's mind, giving gifts and their being well received. Christmas was so far away, birthdays were scattered affairs, and she simply felt there were few too holidays that provided adequate excuses to give people things. A good portion of this deep want of gift giving surely stemmed from all those otome games where daily gifts increased character's appreciation of one's character, but most of it was honestly just that Abbi loved these little moments. Dawson's open and polite appreciation, Scout's initially calm but following quiet adoration, that was really worth the work the teen had been through to find and acquire the bags. And if she hadn't been over the top in her excitement before, she was now.
Unable to help herself the girl rushed forward, after the bags had been shrugged onto shoulders, and wrapped her arms around both Dawson and Scout. Dawson's hug came first first because she knew him best, and because Abbi wanted to give Scout time to decline if necessary, but each received a very exuberant squeal of delight accompanied with Abbi's cheek rubbed against their arm. With that accomplished she pounced on the map, snatching it up when it was offered over and turning it around a few times in an effort to better orient herself. For a few moments she frowned in concentration before she ushered both toward the map with flailing hand gestures.
"I think we should start with the coral reefs. Then we can hit the deep sea, and then ocean predators." One finger pointed to the area, then lightly circled a few other areas. "They have a really cool shark exhibit, but I don't think they're doing feedings right now, so we can hit that one a bit later. After that we can do the tricks show, and then finish with the coral reef? It looks like there's a rain forest exhibit near that one, you like those, right Scout?" As long as they saw at least a little of everything, Abbi would be happy. So for now, she wanted to make sure everyone got a say in what they wanted to see. It was similar to gift giving because she got to bask in the glow of friend's happiness and that was pretty rad. medigel AND THEN I FIXED IT sorry for double tags

Abbi was met with an eager, tight bear hug that easily counted for at least two people even if Scout's wasn't as openly affectionate. And then soon the Mist wasn't the only one making sparkle eyes.
Cool shark exhibit. Cool shark exhibit WITH FEEDING. Did people normally showcase that one? He couldn't remember. Didn't matter. SHARK FEEDING.
"Sounds good t'me!" Dawson said, his face lighting up. Frankly, anything would have been good to him. "Rainforest sounds cool. Y'think they got uh...watcha call it...anjumara? Jeremy Wade did an episode once on it, it's called the wolf fish fer a reason..." And so would Daws devolve into a little informational rant about the fish that he was sure would give piranhas a run for their money easy.

The hug made Scout incredibly uncomfortable; Dawson was right in that she really didn't like touching people (there were very rare exceptions). She still returned the hug, but it was half-hearted; a pat on the back rather than a tight squeeze.
Scout nodded at Abbi. All of the exhibits sounded wonderful because all of them were wonderful. When Abbi asked her directly about the rainforest, she didn't appear very different but her eyes held sparkles that contained all of her feelings.
"That sounds good," she agreed, gesturing them both towards the coral reefs. "Lead the way ma'am."
Then she let Dawson prattle on, because it was very endearing and she was learning a lot!

All about bear hugs, Abbi laughs and wobbles when she's let go and only feels the slightest of diminishes in joy when Scout shies from her touch. As soon as the girl notices Scout begin to shift, Abbi curbs herself as best she can and gives only the barest of hugs, totally caught up in her own excitement to remember that not everyone appreciates affection like she does. She smiles at Scout all the same and ducks away, hoping she hasn't lost any points in the friendship department.
"ALRIGHT!" Abbi whirls around and points their direction before she marches on, dutifully leading them with her head held high and hair bouncing. The little lesson Dawson gives is interesting and Abbi slows her walk so she can hear it better and nod encouragingly. "Sounds intense. Speaking of piranhas, did you know that some are vegetarians?" Aaaaand that was where Abbi's piranha facts ended, but she was banking on someone else taking up the conversation with more fishy facts.
