Eden couldn't believe how long she had had these books. They were old, ancient, and completely the key to her having passed her last class. Without their obscure knowledge she would never have been able to wow her professor, and they weren't even books regularly available in the library. The librarian, who also happened to be her neighbor, and owner of her favorite neighborhood puppies, had been kind enough to specially request them, and THEN kind enough to let her even take them home, sense most of her studying was done when the library was closed. She had sworn to take immaculate care of them, and she had, to the best of her ability... She hoped Mr. Darrow wouldn't be to upset with her for that one bent page. Who knew if and when she would need to borrow a rare book that usually wasn't available for being checked out?
So she had packaged them up carefully and had gone back to the library to return them. Only the distracted girl behind the counter didn't seem to know where he was.

Tony wandered up to the front desk, looking a bit tired and moving slower than he usually did. His limp was a bit more pronounced because of it, and he was actually leaning on his cane. Usually he could get away with not having to use it, but he kept it around just in case.
For nights like tonight.
He was tired not from work at the library, but because of all the trips he had been taking to his Wonder, and a few other taxing moments on his energy supply. He had not really had a chance to rest just yet, but he was fairly used to it.
He was not too worried.
"Oh, hello there! What brings you here?" Tony waved at Eden and hobbled up to her. Of course, he thought she had long since returned those books, and did not think that was why she had come back. He did not keep tabs on people's records, after all. At least, most of the time he didn't.

" Oh, Hello Mr Darrow! " Evalia said, her voice happy, with only a twinge of guilt she felt over having the books longer then she was supposed to. The librarian was always really good to her, so she didn't expect he would be to upset over them.
" Im just returning those books you loaned me a while back, for my Botanicals final? Thank you again " Eden, while not exactly the most observant of person, could tell when a person was looking tired and run down. Tony looked like he had been burning the candle at both ends, even using his cane which Eva rarely saw him use.
" I know you have to go down stairs, I can take them right there for you! " Eden said, knowing that the front desk girl seemed to be.... less than helpful at the moment, and she couldn't just let poor Mr. Darrow try and navigate the stares with a big ol' stack of books that practically made it up to her chin as it was. She would just feel horrible, HORRIBLE, if he tripped or something.
She scooted around him, making a Bee-line for the door that went down stares " Third door on the left right? " She asked cheerfully as she skittered down the stares, already thinking that maybe she should go home, pack up a lunch and bring it back for her librarian neighbor. He knew the Darrow's had a young child, and she would bet her lacy high-heels that he had forgotten to bring himself food in the chaos that was home life with a small child.

"Oh, ah, no, not downstairs," Tony eeped out, but she was already off, and heading down the door he had clearly left unlocked when he should have locked it up tightly. It usually was bolted and secure, but in his exhaustion he must have forgotten to redo the locks after his last trip downstairs.
That was a stupid mistake on his part, and he knew it. There was something very important down there, that he did not want to be found out by the wrong people.
Not that Eden fell into that category, though she might certainly regret going down there when she saw the monster sleeping in the basement.
Merlinite was curled up on his makeshift bed. It was actually very comfortable, with a mattress and some pillows and blankets coiled into a nest. It was easier to sleep curled up, his tail tucked against him, his wing hanging loose and comfortable over his body. It was impossible to lay on his back or side any more, so he adapted as best he could.
He slept during the day so he could patrol with Camelot, or others, at night. It was also the only time he could really go outside without fear of being spotted and causing a huge scene.
He was not expecting company, though he perked up a bit, groggy, when he heard footsteps at the stairs.
Tony caught Evalia before she hit the stairwell, taking her by the arm gently to stop her progress. They could not go down there, as Merlinite did not know Camelot was Tony, and he was not about to give his identity away. Of course, now he was in the awkward position of explaining why he stopped her so suddenly.
"It's, uh. Not safe down there. we... we don't use the basement much for anything these days. Storage is behind the front counter for returns."
