Trotting through forest and meadow with little actual destination in mind, the half-cery stallion known as Raikinti mused over things. Things like Fate and Chance, Purpose, and a Grand Design... Things like the Great Spirit guiding him toward a new life, a flicker of hope, when all things had seemed like nothing but shadow.

They say that time changes one, and Raikinti had seen enough in his life that he believed that to be true. Time changes many things, changes one's opinion and stature, one's landscape... So it only made sense that changed one himself, and Raik could certainly see differences in himself as he was now in comparison to himself as he had been. He felt that most of them were positive, and rather liked to think that such changes would continue.

Not that he could be sure, of course, for the future was unpredictable. But still, he was hopeful and determined, and he liked to think that accounted for part of it.

Where once had been a shy, fleeting creature he stood stronger now. More likely to talk than flee, to give his aid rather than feel fear. He had made a new home in this place, out of the shadow of his past, with all his demons far behind. And fate was kind, because they had not followed. Raik had to admit that fate owed him one, and he hoped she'd pay it back by continuing to keep matters that way. Demons in the past is precisely what he wanted, and he had become used to it... Even as he prepared for the worst.

Building a strong foundation in this land had taken a kind of courage, a strength of character, that no one in his past had ever believed Raik to have. So, consequently, he himself had not believed it. At least, not until his best friend had literally fallen out of the sky and given him a stern talking to. (The wing to the head had been a bit of an eye-opener as well, truth be told.) Regardless, Delri had laid some truths bare and set Raik's hooves on the path... But Raik had walked it willingly, run some the way, and hid along the route here and there too. But then, that was only in the presence of Kalona and it seemed like a sound enough strategy.

He wasn't hiding anymore though, that was for certain. Now he was searching, though he couldn't rightly say what for. But it was a search nonetheless, for a new friend or a new adventure or a companion... He hoped he'd know when he'd see it, but he'd keep a sharp eye out for whatever it was just in case. Even if the last meeting had been odd and unsettling, it had ended in a friendship. Which counted as a win, when all things were considered. And if it was a loss, Raik could stand a few dozen more like it. He liked having friends around.

"Well then, Lady Fate, what do you have in store for me today?"

The forest had always been one of Sierra's favorite places. It made her sad but at the same time it was the one place she felt whole. She hadn't seen her family for several seasons but the woods brought her back to them. She grew up galloping through the woods, playing hide and seek and rolling in fields of flowers. She let the memories wash over her for a moment before letting the past fade away. Her head returned to the present, alone in the woods.

She didn't like being alone but dwelling on it only made those feelings worse. Avoiding her thoughts she continued to glide quietly between trees. Moving in and out of the rays of sunlight that broke through the canopy she continued wondering the forest with no real destination in mind. Then she smelled it. The sweet aroma of flowers. They had to be close and by the strength of the scent there were a lot of them. Letting her nose guide her she followed the tantalizing smell until she left the cover of the trees and entered a large open meadow.

"What heaven," she whispered. She never could have dreamed she would find a place like this, filled to the brim with flowers. Oh how she loved flowers. It wasn't odd to see her with several fresh flowers in her hair. The woods she had just been in now seemed so dark by comparison.

Loosing herself in the beauty of what she found around her she lied down in the middle of a patch of flowers that were so blue they looked like they could have fallen from the sky itself. She was still alone but it's hard to feel alone watching all the flowers danced in the wind. Mesmerized by the meadows waltz Sierra decided this wouldn't be a bad place to rest.

After a long run, a roll in the meadow, and a visit to his favorite apple orchard, Raik found his way to one of the nearby streams. This one was deep enough to reach his belly, so he waded into the water until it splashed cool and crystal along his sides, drinking deeply.

'Now what to do?' He wondered, taking a deep breath after his long drink. 'Delri is otherwise unavailable, as is Whisper and Hae... What now?'

After several moments of wading and splashing, the stallion sighed to himself and reluctantly trudged to the bank. With a final splash Raikinti stepped free of the stream, shaking himself from muzzle to tail. The crystal drops scattered on the grass like a gentle rain, the grass whispering under the onslaught. It was pretty, a temporary effect of gemstones that glimmered in the light as they sped to their landing.

With no real destination in mind he began wandering again, drifting through the wood. He tracked the drifting breeze, admiring fluttering leaves and swaying flowers as he traveled along. He hesitated as he caught sight of the gap in the treeline, admiring the sudden view of a meadow strewn with flowers. There was also a golden-coated Unicorn, her horn a sliver of sky not unlike the flowers wound in her mane. She was lovely.

Hesitantly, the copper-coated stallion stepped gingerly into the meadow. He didn't want to get too close, worried about startling the strange mare who seemed so content as she drowsed among the flowers.

"Pardon me for my intrusion." He offered tentatively. "I hope I am not disturbing you."

The meadow had been just what she needed.  The flowers danced in her dreams as she faded in and out of sleep.  For a moment she was a foal again, carefree and chasing butterflies.  The world her playground and no fear.  The memory went fuzzy as she blinked away the sleep seeing the blanket of flowers again. So lost in her thoughts and dreams she didn't even realize she wasn't alone until she heard a polite voice behind her.

Slightly startled she turned to see who it was. Moving her hair out of her way she saw a stallion just barely standing in the sunlight of the meadow.  He was a sight to see, dark brown body like that of the trees behind him with stripes of cream on his face and legs, and short redish hair that reflected the sunlight.  While she couldn't be sure from the distance but he looked to be part cerynei.

"Oh no, not at all." Sierra smiled slightly embarrassed for having fallen asleep.  Luckily for her the stallion who wondered in wasn't a Kolana or worse a skin walker.  She was fearful of running into one of them alone.  She stood up taking a few steps in his direction still being a little cautious. "I saw this meadow and couldn't help but relaxing among the flowers.  My names Sierra."  She said sweetly smiling at the stallion.

A thought accrued to her, "this isn't your meadow is it?"  Maybe she had taken a nap somewhere she wasn't suppose to…

It was sort of amazing, how a scene or a sight could make someone relax, could instill peace on others just by the peace that it projected. Standing in the shadow of the woods, Raik had to admit it had been some time since he'd ever seen someone so blissful, so seemingly relaxed.

The scene itself was beautiful, with golden sunlight dropping lazy beams of light on the gold and cloud colored mare... And the sky above was blue belong the perfect white clouds, like the blue of the mare's eyes and horn... Against the grass so green it rivaled his eyes, she was all light and tranquility and hope... And it was, soothing, to look upon her.

He felt calmer, and was without nerves when he spoke to her... Beyond the general shyness he felt around the fairer sex.

"I am glad to hear it." He admitted with a gentle smile and a faint nod of his head, his heavy deer-like ears swinging forward and then back nervously, tone gone shy and soft as he continued. "I would never have been able to forgive myself, I assure you."

He gave a wide grin, playful and harmless, chuckling softly before inclining his head in a nod. "A pleasure to meet you, Lady Sierra. I am Raikinti, though my friends tend to shorten it -to Raik or Rai or Kinti- however best pleases them. I invite you to do the same."

Rather taken with admiring her, Raikinti took a moment to realize that she had asked him a question. "Hmm? Oh, my meadow? No no, not in the slightest.. And I cannot fault you at all for your choice, it is a lovely one at that. I would never presume to cut short your enjoyment of it... But I don't suppose I might be permitted to enjoy it with you?"

'Lady Sierra,' she kept repeating those words in her mind.  No one had ever called her a lady before.  It felt slightly odd coming from a stranger and yet somewhat natural from him.  She may have just meant him but Sierra could already tell he was genuine and sweet, a true gentleman.  She had started to think stallions like that didn't exist anymore.  She couldn't help but smile at him.  Something about him made her feel relaxed.  His deer-like ears were cute twitching as he spoke.  Was he nervous?

"It's nice to meet you Raikinti," she thought about the nicknames he had offered and chose the one she liked best.  Smiling she said, "I mean Raik.  It's a pleasure to meet you too."  She bent her legs in an awkward attempt at a curtsy.

Closing the rest of the distance she continued, "It is a lovely meadow and the perfect day for enjoying it."  She looked into his green eyes.  They were greener then any she had ever seen.  It felt as if her face was getting warmer.  'Am I blushing?'  She looked away quickly pretending to survey the surroundings.  'I'm sure it's just the warmth of the sun.'

Shaking her insecurity she returned her attention to Raik.  "I welcome the company.  Places like this are best enjoyed with someone else."  Bending down she curled back up among the flowers.  They were still dancing, the waltz hadn't ended.  'Now perhaps I have a partner for the meadow's ball. She laughed at how silly the whole idea was.

Attempting to start a conversation Sierra asked, "What brings you to these woods Raik?"

He could somewhat sense that the title, or perhaps the gentle formality behind it, were somewhat foreign to her. Then again, that was no great surprise for he knew nothing of where she was from or what the traditions of this land or her herd might be. Though he had been away from his herd for some time, it still seemed natural to speak with the general formality they had once used when greeting strangers. Old habits, and all that. But his habits were not hers, so he hoped she didn't mind it much.

The smile was reassuring, soft like sunlight or a sumer shower, bright and gently golden. He rather liked the way she said his full name too, even as she selected a snorter nickname.

"I am most charmed, Lady Sierra." He smiled at the bow she offered, flicking his short tail from side to side. "And I cannot disagree with you, the day is fine indeed, and the meadow lovely. Then again, I think it might be better with the present company, so I would be pleased indeed to pass some time in your presence if you do not mind me doing so."

He watched her settle back among the flowers, and drifted closer so they could more comfortably converse. The question made his ears swivel, his green eyes glinting. "A fair enough question, my Lady. But, on this day or in general? Well, either way it is a bit of a tale."

Raik gave a grin and a wink. "One I will happily tell. To start, I am from a land distant from here. A land old and arid and not so welcoming as this. It is dry and filled with low whispering grasses that stretch like the sea, golden but not so much so as your fair hide. And the mountains loom in the distance, menacing shadows beyond forests of low trees with deep emerald leaves and sometimes no more than thistles upon their branches."

The copper stallion hesitated, glancing at her and giving a faint smile, curious to see what her thoughts were on the matter.
