Xenosa was happy to be far from Serenia once more. She didn’t know when she’d be able to come back and get a good hunt, Aevah had said she needed to stay home from now on. At least for a little while, Xen was sure the woman was trying to push having children on her. By the goddess she hated that woman, but at least she didn’t have to go out and kill anyone else. But again, not for a little while. Aevah was truly punishing her by making her bored, why did she wanted them to have a child so bad anyways?

“Is this okay here Keke?” Xenos landed softly and looked around. Seemed decent enough.

Being back in his homeland was a mixed blessing.

Yes, it was home, with all the familiar lava floes and mountains, but it was also old territory. Keke could always find something new in the Expanse, sure. He could find something new and interesting anywhere – he was Kekeovonnai, after all – but Serenia was bursting at the seams with new things and secrets and leaving Serenia, after exploring it for such a brief time, was jarring.

He'd be back soon, though, if Xenosa would let him, and that made this brief visit home happy, as it should be. He'd said hello to his family and to his students, and had given out gifts from his travels, and done all those sorts of things while Xenosa set up camp and did her own thing. It had been enjoyable to reconnect with his tribe, but he had been happy when the time came to rejoin Xenosa at her hunting site.

“Yes.” he said, landing beside her and looking around, “I think they may be sleeping, but there are definitely Gaili dragons in these caves.”

“Perfect.” Xenosa felt the gift she’d bought for Keke, it almost felt like it was prodding at her, begging her to give it to him. She felt silly though. Didn’t know how to do these kinds of things, or maybe she just sucked when it came to affection and well friendships altogether. Though she got along just fine with Keke, he was the only one really. But better to give him the gift now before they went in in case something happened to it or him or her really.

“Before we go in, I’ve got something for you.” Xenosa looked into the cave once. “Just a small parting gift.

Keke looked at her in surprise. “A gift?” Xenosa was not the sort to give physical gifts, not that Keke had seen, anyway. In fact the only gift that he had seen her give had involved poison – but of course she would not poison him! “What is it?” he asked, sniffing inquisitively. Also, what did she mean by 'parting' gift? Was he not going back with her, or... or what? He thought it would be a good idea to ask, but perhaps after he had seen the... whatever it was.

It couldn't be poison, could it?

Could it?

Dipping her hand into one of her pockets, Xenosa procured something small wrapped in black velvet. She unwrapped it slowly as she neared Keke and then extended it towards him so he could see what it was. “I found a little shop that was selling some of these; I thought it would be something that might interest you?” She didn’t sound sure, but she knew he would like it. “It’s a Gaili dragon tear.” As if she had needed to say anything to him, Keke obviously knew what it was. Or so she thought anyways. “Just you know, a little appreciation gift.”

Kekeovonnai gasped, rearing his head back in startlement. A dragon's tear?! Truly?! He had never seen one before, but he had always wanted to do so... such fascinating things! “Oooooo...” he murmured, his eyes glittering as he leaned in closer, “Ooo...” he said again. The crystalline facets mesmerized him with their strange beauty, the power within the not-quite-stone evident in the strange light it threw back at him and the tingling aura that caressed his nose.

“Oh... oh my...” he murmured, leaning back, still staring at the stone, “Thank you... thank you...” he began to purr, seemingly unaware of the fact, “It's marvellous.” He felt very appreciated, indeed.

“Well I’m glad you like it. I’ll keep it on me for now and then I’ll bundle it with the dragon orbs so you can take them back home.” Yes that sounded like the sensible thing to do right? “Now for some serious business. We hunt!” Xenosa unfurled her wings and in one swoop launched herself into the air, there was no time to be wasted. Though she did have to wait for Keke to sniff out some dragons for her, he was much much better at it than her. She’d decided she was going to have to take him out hunting every single time from now on.

He watched the gemstone return to it's bag with some avaricious regrets, but of course, it's confinement was only temporary. “Yes.” he thought that was a good idea. “Yes, to dragons!”

He could sense the Gaili in the caves, but Xenosa did best in midair and, thus, he had to lure them out. Especially since they appeared to be resting He trotted by the caves, sniffing, until he found a very likely one, where the dragons were close at hand... but not so close: he did want leeway to run, after all.

He stuck his head into the cave, let his eyes adjust and trotted in until he could see them – their bulk not quite blending in with the stone around them. He didn't want them to come out, roaring like an earthquake – that might cause a cave-in and just be trouble.

He did, however, want to make them curious enough to walk out and be killed.

Kekeovonnai backtracked a little, noting the dust and sand on the floor of the cave, and he had an idea. He turned the sand into glass shards, each one making a tinkling, bell-like sound as they clattered to the floor. The sounds echoed through the connected caverns, and he made his way out quickly, glancing up at the sky to see Xenosa overhead. He grinned and winked at her, excited – he hoped his ruse would pay off...

And it did.

”What was that??! he heard, the draconic wafting out to him from the cave entrance. Keke hid nearby, waiting. ”Let us go take a look. Maybe it's a cave in. Or gems, fallen from the ceiling – gems would be excellent...” he heard a shout as the first of his shards found a soft spot on the dragon's paw.

It was a rumble more of surprise and pain than rage – the dragon hadn't seen him yet. ”What is this?!”

Dragonic laughter followed. ”You fool!”

”It hurts!”

”Maybe it snowed ice. Go see outside – I would love to make a snow mound in front of Ks'rathee 's lair. Would show him why he shouldn't mess with me.”

”Petty prankster.”

There were three dragons inside and, soon, one outside, peering out of the cavern. It moved to the edge and blinked, surprised. ”Why, theres no snow at all.” they said, puzzled, ”So what...”

”This isn't ice...” accused one of the dragons. Keke tensed – he was about to be found out – and he prepared himself for a fight.

The soft beat of her wings was barely audible, still Xenosa was as still as water on a clear day. Keke was up to something and better she not cause him more trouble while he was knocking on that door. Still, she spotted him running and hiding and leaned in just a bit. Had he found dragons? Nothing came out for a few seconds and Xenosa was really starting to wonder what it was he had done until finally one dragon’s head popped out from the cave. With a grin she shot the first dagger at the dragons head and watched it fall to the ground dead with her weapon sticking out from its head.

This caused the other two dragons in the cave to stampede out, their movements like earthquakes. They spotted her easily enough, ignoring Keke or not seeing at all as they took off into the skies. A grave mistake on their part, Gaili, after all, were much better on the ground than in aerial combat. Not that she cared much; they would die either way by her hand here. There was a distant roar, one Xenosa chose to ignore for the moment as she beat her wings to avoid the oncoming dragons.

As usual, Xenosa's aim was flawless. Keke wondered how she did it – it certainly was impressive to watch... and watch he did, as Xenosa expertly dodged their attacks. She was supremely graceful in the air, a trait he envied. He wondered, briefly, if he should ask her to demonstrate just what she could do with her soft dual pair of wings...

Briefly, because he knew he had to do his part, too.

He drew his head back, and, with a crackling horking sound, spat a sharp javelin of glass at one of the dragons. His aim was off – he had been hoping to hit it just between the wings – but to his good fortune he hit it in the wing. He fired a few more at it, striking precious veins, and the dragon found itself no longer able to fly. It crashed to the ground, only to be finished off with a sound pounce and slash from Keke.

Oh! What fun! He did so enjoy it when he hunted with Xenosa.

Keke's good mood wavered as he saw an impending threat that she did not: It was a massive dragon, old and gnarled where the other three were sleek. It was scarred and it creaked as it moved, as if it was nearly turning to stone. It glowered at the group in the sky.

”Measly runts!” it snarled, it's voice deep but warbling, ”I'll teach thee to make noise and disturb my slumber!”

With a roar, it sent a set of massive boulders at the whole group in the sky. It didn't care what it hit, exactly, so long as its point was made.

“Xenosa! Watch out!” Keke called, scrambling up the cliff towards the dragon.

With two dragons down thanks to Keke, Xenosa would have no trouble at all disposing of the final dragon in the trio. She was currently in a fighting match with it, it sailed through the air after her as she twirled and swooped close to its soft spots to gut it open slowly. If it did not die soon it would die a slow and painful death of bleeding out. Not that it mattered to the Orderite in this case, soon it would not be able to fly anyway and that was when she would give it the final deadly strike.

Keke voice drew Xenosa’s attention and her eyes moved to the older dragon. She saw the boulders and immediately tucked her wings close and dove downwards to void the boulders. The other dragon was not as fast and while he was hit by the boulders and fell from the sky, he was not dead. Not yet anyways. Xenosa would be sure to take care of the dragon once she had finished off this old brute. The task would be harder than it seemed though, the thing was practically rock itself.

“Keke! Where’s a soft spot?” Too much armor, her daggers would do no good.

Keke dodged the dragon's heavy claws, weaving in and out amidst it's legs as it snarled at him.

”Get away from me, thou annoying vermin...” it snapped, very literally, at him.

Keke tried to get underneath it, looking up at the vast brown underbelly. Soft spot... soft spot... the whole of the dragon's underbelly was encrusted with stones and boulders that had simply become a part of the dragon's hide. He couldn't see a soft spot, not there.

He ran out of there as the dragon shook the stone beneath him in retaliation, taking to the air and circling over the dragon's body. Not there either – the dragon was craggy and scaly and well-armored. But then, a glimmer of almost new, tan hide -

“There!” he cried, swooping over, “Right where his wings attach!” There, yes there, was a major c***k in the dragon's armor.

The dagger flew as soon as Xenosa had spotted the hide. She missed. The dragon’s soft spot was just too small for her to aim properly at this distance. The Orderite swooped in closer, avoiding the dragons limbs as it tried to take her down like swatting a fly. Soon she was within range again and the dagger flew to get stuck in its hide. This would only slow him down though, Xenosa knew that. She had to make him bleed a lot more than this little scratch. But how? As she circled around him the only other soft spot she could see were the eyes.

Those were easy targets; Xenosa flew and shot the daggers quickly blinding the old dragon. It roared, moving back but at its back was the crag and it could not get away. He was much more frantic now and decided to push forward and simple dropped off the cliff. The dagger she had previous put into his wing made it so that it could not fly and so the Gaili crashed at the bottom dead. Xenosa flew to the ledge and dropped leaning over the edge to see the body already beginning to dissolve.

“Well that was fun.”
