The wind rushed through the trees like deer at play, tugging at limbs and leaves alike. It was a symphony above her head, the swaying causing the shapes on the forest floor to shift and bend. Heat from the summer’s day had long been chased out, and the air was almost chill in the wake of the breezy night. There might have been a storm in the distance, or perhaps the clouds would hold off till morning, at this point it was any ones guess. They stood bunched up and poised at the edge of the horizon, an angry ocean in the sky, rolling and crashing.
These were the sorts of nights that brought King a sense of belonging, and peace. She was one with her forest, when it was as lively as this, so was she. The mare strolled easily, her mane swaying and twisting in the wind as if to show how light her heart was. Tonight she didn’t seek any herbs in particular, merely wandered to see what it was the wood had to give.
So far she had gathered quite a few useful plants, both for healing purposes and killing purposes. She would put them to good use later, making sure to take the time to strip them down to their barest components to store easily. Admittedly she hadn’t been on guard, or high alert, for people rarely entered this area unless seeking her in particular. So the first few cracks of branches breaking, and the rustle of leaves was loss to the cacophony of other sounds.
Thus when the stallion broke through the underbrush, a big beast of a kalon, she hadn’t been at all prepared. The male stood easily two heads taller than herself, perhaps more so, his chest twice the size of hers, his hooves as big around as two of her own. The figure was large and imposing, scars littered across his body, horns twisting maliciously from his head, wings a mixture of a bird and a bat; but perhaps what was most terrifying was the sneer that curled his maw as his eyes landed on her.
A moment stretched out an eternity between them, her eyes empty and his calculating. King took an almost hesitant step backwards, unsure of what the correct move would be here. She was smaller, and could probably out maneuver him but a fight wouldn’t work out in her favor.
“Yummy.” Claymore snorted, it had been some time since he and his had feasted on a piece of prime flesh.
“No.” King corrected solemnly, she wasn’t the least bit yummy, of that she was certain.
“No?” He queued at her, a hint of amusement entering his tone as he circled her. “I suppose upon first appearance you don’t look very tasty. Small, frail, thin, wispy, bony, these are all words that describe you well, but under all that I am sure you are just as juicy as the next little bird.” Claymore grinned extending his wings so they touched the trees nearest them with room to spare.
King stiffened, sometimes she really hated kalona. They weren’t as bad as skinwalkers but they still weren’t always the pleasant sort. She shifted backwards, pulling her wings close to her body as she prepared herself for a long run. Thunder echoed in the distance, perhaps it would storm after all. Uta Sorry this took so long to get up! But there ya go! <3 Guest appearances by

Unfortunately for Claymore, King was not alone in her forest. While the mare's presumption of security had allowed the beast of a kalona to draw near, it had also allowed another to roam the windy woodlands unobserved. Ouriel had discovered the thicket of woods earlier that day, and had been investigating the lands uninvited. Not because he was looking to take them over, or claim them, but because these sorts of places often held the most interesting of soquili. These woods, and areas just like them, were often home to soquili that did not wish for company, or did not feel secure enough to live somewhere more habitable.
And that was what Ouriel had come to investigate!
The young stallion wasn't afraid of anything. Where some soquili were content to simply live one day to the next, to find security and safety in a herd, or to find a mate, this black eyed stallion had a higher calling. While safety was important, he knew that not everyone out there had such an easy time discovering it. How often was his own family picked on, or stared at? His own beloved mother was often in her own realm, as were some of his siblings. With his father often gone, who was going to take care of them? Some saw his family as nothing but monsters . . . but the real monsters were those that judged; were those that didn't --or couldn't-- understand what it was like to be born different. So, Ouriel had discovered that it was up to him to protect, not just his family, but others out there who might suffer. Others who weren't always so easily understood, others who might need the support of the damned.
And oh, how they needed him - whether their pride allowed them to know the truth or not. Ouriel knew he was their hero, and he would protect his fallen and his damned, whether or not they knew they were his. And they would be his. Of this, the black eyed stallion would ensure.
So it was, the spirits had brought him into this woods, to see what he might see. . . and they did not disappoint! He had just caught sight of the angeni mare when another beast stepped forth - - some kalona. Between the two, Ouriel might have been more inclined to give the kalona room. The bat-and-raven-winged beasts were often misunderstood, so often aloof or hunted, simply due to their position as a predator. But. This angeni mare, while the intended prey, was of more interest to him. Perhaps it was because her eyes were as black as his, or that she lived in solitude within this dark wood. Something about her reminded him of his family -- was she fallen too? Until he found out, Ouriel wasn't going to simply sit by and let her get cannibalized by another.
No. Not on his watch!
She might be of interest to him, and would clearly be in need of him. This brute of a kalona? Not so much. Not yet, at any rate.
So it was, the stallion slipped confidently out of the shadows, his own wings flared, and his spiked tail slowly wagging behind him. "If you're hungry for feathers, than why not pick on someone closer to your own size?" If the mare wished to run, she could -- he had her scent, he could find her again. Still, Ouriel would think about her later - - after he dealt with this one.
"Leave now, else pay the price."
He wasn't afraid of this bully -- he was just another beast that needed to be tamed, just another pest that needed to be crushed beneath his hooves.
Of The Epidemic No worries! I'm super slow between shop managing, RL, preparing to move cross-country, and coloring. . . but here we go! <3 Tags might take a little bit but I'll try to write when I can.

King’s head snapped up and to the side as yet another stallion came busting through the underbrush, and to her rescue. Her wings fluttered as she took a step back, taking note of the spiked tail that swayed back and forth dangerously. The mare’s heart fluttered in her chest as she shifted slightly to the side and behind the newest addition to this excursion.
“Thank you.” She whispered her voice almost lost to the wind in the trees. Claymore snorted; hoof hitting the ground heavy as he watched the little meal slip behind the bigger one. This could pose a problem, as he was by himself without his mate and two opponents, especially one quite as big as the mutant in front of him, could potentially overpower him.
The kalona took note that Ouriel easily looked him in the eyes, and the three horns down his nose looked rather sharp. Still if he could get them separated and take the mare down, then there would be no reason he couldn’t come back to his kill later. He flared his wings wider, choice made for the moment.
“Come now, is there really any need to defend something like her? The world will not miss her much.” Claymore snorted as he moved to try and shift behind the big stallion, hoping to maybe open a path towards the mare.
“I don’t want to fight.” He grinned, teeth sharp as he spoke moving a bit closer, before he lashed out with sharp hooves. Hoping to hit the male and knock him out of the way. This was his chance, this was his meal, and he was not about to let her go now. If he could just get between them then it would be easier to chase the mare down. It would be even better if he could knock the stallion down now. He was a bigger meal after all and he could always find the little mare later. King hadn’t honestly thought the Kalona would attack so when he lashed out with hooves she hadn’t really been prepared. The sudden extending of his wings knocked her back, causing her to trip over her own feet and go down. She needed to move and do it now, getting out of the way of the fighting males was a good idea for one so small as herself. Yet she found that it was hard to rise when there were flashing wings and lashing hooves. On several occasions she thought she might get a spiked tail to the face.
She pushed herself backwards until it was safe enough to get to her feet, unsure of how to even help in this situation King slipped back into the woods. She had no doubts that Ouriel would win but he probably wouldn’t come out of it unscathed; with that in mind the little mare turned and bolted back towards her den area. There were several health poultices she already had ready from her earlier expeditions, they could prove useful to the stallion after he got out of the battle. Uta That's totally fine! XD It just means we'll work well together. Since I take a bit between my rp tags as well. I left the fight scene really open ended and kinda glossed over. I'm not very good with them so you can decide if the initial lash out hit and what have you. You're also free to end the fight in your next post or let it continue. I don't mind either way. (Claymore would scamper off and lick his wounds allowing Ouriel to chase after King should you wish to end it in your post.)
