Though that division meeting had been a fright, a shock of the culture she'd just unknowingly stepped in to, Cassie had picked up one good thing from it; possible mentor ship, and good golly did she need it. She'd arranged to meet the Gale man she'd seen, because he seemed the nicest of the bunch.

So she was waiting for him in one of the archive libraries, new coat pulled tightly around her lithe frame, none of her costume on. She didn't need to be batgirl for something as simple as a division tour. It was chilly, but not nearly as icy as the glare the librarian has cast her way.

Hopefully Gale would be there soon.

He knew of Cassie only by name, and a little bit by face, though he'd spoken to her only briefly. But being a new Death trainee was something that Gale knew quite a lot about, and the fact that she'd asked him to assist her in integrating herself into the division made him feel rather nice about himself.

He stepped into the library, dressed in a simple button down shirt and khakis, glancing around for the girl. She was easy to spot, clutching her coat at the end of a row, and Gale made his way towards her, winding his way around tables and chairs and other hunters.

"Cassie?" he asked, once he got nearer to her, close enough that he could reach out a hand towards her in greeting.

"I'm Gale Gentry."

Cassie made a small noise of alertness, Gale's voice breaking the hazy, dreamlike stare she was giving a cluster of books high up on the nearest shelf. If pressed, she couldn't tell you what they were. The trainee took Gale's hand hastily, squeezing it lightly when she shook it. "Ah, yes! Cassie Gordon." She smiled shyly at Gale, returning her hands to their firm grasp on her coat, just on the shoulder.

Maybe she should have worn more than just a tank and jeans underneath her coat, but that was in the past. It wouldn't be prudent to let her mind wander while Gale was helping her out. "I like your accent, it's-- it makes you sound more like a spy." She giggled, covering her mouth. "So, ummm, what's first on the agenda?"

She looked young, but Gale wasn't sure if she was young as in his own age, or just had one of those faces. Either way, he shook her hand and then lowered his own, Jinhai slipping pleasantly through his thoughts, the dragon curling up in his mind.

A faint smile twitched on his lips. "Thank you," said Gale, taking it as a compliment. "I suppose that's a better reaction than most have when they see me."

He glanced around the library and then looked back at Cassie. "I figured I'd show you around the Death offices for a bit, and then give you a basic rundown of the division and some of its occupants, see if you had any questions about those or anything else. That sound okay?"

"That sounds like a good plan." Cassie nodded, smiling gently at Gale. He didn't look so old, maybe only as old as herself, but the way he carried himself told of something much greater than age.

Gale had experience. She could trust that experience, not in the same way Tenjadi forced her to trust him. Gale came off as professional, but friendly.

The popobawa writhed angrily in her head, rumbling and distorting her thoughts for a moment.

"I do have one question, already." Cassie ventured, wringing her hands. "Is everyone on this island as... professional, as Mr. Caelius?"

He turned his head to look at Cassie as he led her out of the library, hands tucked into his pockets. Gale nearly choked at the question, coughing slightly as he pulled open the door, gesturing for her to go out first.

"Er," he said. "Well. That's a bit of...I suppose you could say, a subjective question. So far, it's safe to say that no one is like Caelius."

Gale frowned a little.

"Have you met Caelius, then?"

Cassie followed obediently, trying to keep alert just in case there was something of super big importance that Gale had to say about their surroundings.

"Only at the division meeting. Sort of a weird time to come out of the pod." Cassie murmured, eyes flitting to various Hunters passing by.

"Then I encountered two others the next day, and they were a little... mean." She sighed, tucking a stray strand of hair back into her bob.

"Ah," said Gale in understanding. "Well. Caelius is, to say the least, a piece of work. There isn't anyone quite like him, and you'll learn rather quickly that nothing you say or do will probably ever be satisfactory for him. I've been here almost five years now and have yet to actually seem of worth, apparently."

This last part was said with a resigned sigh. Gale's eyes flicked towards Cassie, giving her a curious look, brows drawing together.

"Who did you talk to, exactly?" he asked, wondering if it was someone like Rep that could have possibly intimidated her somehow. He led her down a corridor and pushed open a door at the end. "Not everyone in Death is as severe, there are some really good people in this division, don't worry."

Cassie didn't like that resigned ring to Gale's voice - but he didn't seem broken. No, just a little dented, maybe. "Five years? Goodness." He must be a good Hunter, then, even if Caelius didn't think so. Cassie quickly got the impression that Caelius didn't think anyone but himself were good hunters.

She entered the door first, nodding along with Gale's statement. She figured not everyone was terrible - that was impossible. "I didn't get their names. I met them down at the beach, when they were helping me -- I had gotten lost by the lighthouse." Cassies eyes flicked back down to her shoes, then to the left of Gale. "Good spies don't get lost." She giggled, trying to make it a joke. It was true, though; James Bond always knew where he was going.

"They weren't from our division, though. They were Mist, I think. Swirlies on their coats."

He stepped out after her, wondering how and why she had gotten herself down to the beach in the first place. But in spite of Cassie having already met a few hunters, they weren't in their division, and Gale gave a little nod, taking a breath.

(He had no idea what the spy thing was all about.)

"That's right, Mist has swirls on their coats," he said. "My girlfriend's in Mist, it's a good division to be in, they do a lot for the place as a whole."

Gale led Cassie down another hallway. "The Death Division's main focus is intelligence; we gather information about missions, both before and after, and analyze it for importance."

"Girlfriend, hm?" Cassie repeated, a sweet smile spreading across her face. "She must be pretty nice. What's her name?" The girl was glad to take the subject off herself for the moment. Cassie's right hand was still weighed down by chains no one else seemed to see. They made her uneasy, unwilling to say much about what she's done on the island so far. She didn't want Gale thinking he has to train the loony bin.

"So, like...we're more like Q than 007?" Her face fell a little, but if Cassie were honest, he wasn't that cut out for what Mr. Bond did. "Or no, that's not right. Q made weapons and did all the tech stuff... So that's Life, yeah? Trees on their coats?"

"Stormy," said Gale, his expression softening minutely as he said it, pushing open another door. "And yes, she is nice, she's very nice. We've been together for about two years now."

He turned his head to look at Cassie, brows drawing together in slight confusion until he realized what she was referring to.

"Er...right," said Gale, leading her down yet another hallway. It seemed to get to the Death offices, one had to do a great deal of twisting and turning through a veritable labyrinth of hallways. "Life Division are the ones who take our information and put it to use. They do a lot of medical research, informational, experimental, and laboratory processes."

Cassie's face lit up at the mention of Stormy's name, and she bounced on the balls of her feet a little as Gale guided her through the labyrinthine pathways to get to the offices. She'd have to memorize this route, just to get to work every day. Sheesh. "Oh! Stormy is your girlfriend?! She's amazing! She woke me up and guided me through the whole process!" Congrats Stormy, you've gained a fangirl. Cassie omitted the parts where she nearly broke down in panic, or bawled, or showed any signs of weakness. She'd already picked up those weren't tolerated on Deus.

"So, if we're intel... it's a lot of recon stuff? Like, scouting the land, sort of?" Cassie's lips pulled into an inquisitive purse, finally starting to draw things together. She wasn't stupid, just a deliberate type of thinker. "Do the higher-ups give us assignments to investigate? Or do we have to find our own leads?"

He was slightly startled at her reaction, Gale glancing back at Cassie to give her a confused expression - but at least this new recruit knew of Stormy and seemed to like her. It made him relax somewhat, some of the tension easing from his shoulders.

"Yes, we've been together a long time," he said, and the faintest smile touched his lips before it disappeared, replaced by Gale's usual stoic expression. He pushed open another door.

"We do scouting and recon missions, though Sun Division are the front line and can be useful for keeping things in check. And to answer your question, they can at times give us assignments, but don't count on anything being particularly clear, especially if they come from Caelius himself."

A soft snort escaped him.

"He's notorious for being confusing - and unrelenting."
