Kyndall liked to think she was a good wife. Indeed, she did just about everything she could think of to make sure that her husband knew that he was loved and would always have an important place in her life and in her heart. She cooked, cleaned, helped raise their children, sang him songs, kissed and cuddled him, and generally tried to tell him every day in a million ways that she loved him. This included surprising him at work with leftover roast beef for a sandwich with many things he liked to eat. And, of course, bringing too much.
She spent a little while with him in his office having a pleasant visit while he was at work. Being a teacher allowed her summers off and she liked spending more time with Sarah, who was now two years old, and was also right now with her babysitter for a quick outing. Kyn had time to kill when their lunch break was over before she went home. She decided to sit on a bench on the shady side of the library, looking out over the small landscaping areas on the side of the building.
It wasn't a hot day out today, a breeze played with her skirt. She set her picnic basket aside and closed her eyes, enjoying the feeling of being outdoors. She sighed contentedly.
Sometimes, life was really wonderful.

Hadaya was in a good mood, but he was still trying to be cautious. Sneaking into the library was tough business for a cat! Especially one that had never done it before.
He had spotted a window that was not too high up, and was slightly cracked open. Maybe someone had left it open when they used the table nearby, and forgot to close it. Or maybe the library needed a nice breeze during the day. Who knew? He just was pretty sure he could squeeze his tiny little body into the gap it created, and get in with the books and things.
It would be so nice to explore and be in there!
While climbing up the fire escape and trotting along the narrow ledge of the building, though, Hadaya realized he was a bit too wide in the middle area to be perfectly balance. As a cat he had built in grace and poise, but as Hadaya he mostly did not know how to access those instincts.
He missed a step, wobbled, then dropped right off the side of the building. He coiled in midair to try and land on his feet, but that just sent him spinning wildly and he kicked his stubby paws in futile protest until he landed on something soft and decidedly lap like.
"Oh!" he squeaked, on his back and trapped there, wiggling furiously in an effort to right himself in the middle of his panic.

Kyn had been sitting for a bit, perfectly content with the sounds and feel of her little rest. She had her head back, listening to the people pass her by without really noticing she was there, she didn't think, until -plunk- something fell into her lap.
Her eyes snapped open, ready for anything, but saw a cat where she had expected a very bold youma.
"Oh," she echoed, unsure that she heard him correctly. "Oh, who are you?"
The leather harness was very cute and all but did not tell her who the cat was or where he had come from. She looked around and felt along his neck for a collar and found nothing...except a star on his head. Ah, he was one of those. She remembered those. So much for a normal afternoon.
"So what's your name? I think you have one and I'm pretty sure you can speak for yourself."
Though for good measure she boosted the cat onto her chest and carried him further down where rumors were not likely to fly that the librarian's wife had lost her marbles and was becoming a lady that talked to cats in broad daylight in public.

Hadaya looked at her with wide eyes, hoping his little outburst might have been taken as a strangely human sound and not an actual word. He sometimes did not have control of his verbalizations, though, and that was probably going to land him in trouble, some time.
This person, though, seemed to know about Guardian Cats, and was not actually surprised when he spoke. When he landed in her lap, yes, but now that they had a moment to calm down (mostly him), she seemed to not be too concerned about talking to him.
Maybe she was just a really big, kind of crazy, cat person?
Weighing his options, he smiled at her and wiggled up from where she held him on her chest, crawling over to her shoulder and draping himself there. His front paws dangled behind her, and he leaned his head against her neck, purring softly.
"My name is Hadaya! You've met a talking cat before?" It was a risk, if she did turn out to be talking to him in a hypothetical way, but he supposed there were worse things than people knowing he could talk, right? He'd just jump away if things got bad... and anyway, she was very comfortable and warm.

Kyndall looked at him non-judgmentally. She had no room to think he was strange or bad considering what she was doing, talking to a cat, even though it was a special cat.
"Yes, I've run into Mauvians before."
She set the picnic basket down in their new secluded spot by a set of stairs outdoors in a little seating area she was fond of and quickly glanced around. No one appeared to be coming so she powered up just long enough to show him that she was not a threat before powering back down. As Shalott she felt his brilliant aura and was soothed.
"Shalott, Knight of Earth or just plain Kyndall."
She sat back down and settled with him, reaching for the basket.
"You know, my husband works at the library. He didn't eat all of the roast beef I brought him for lunch. I don't suppose you like beef?"

Hadaya looked surprised when she powered up, bouncing up and down on his little paws for a moment, ears perked forward. As best as they were able to, anyway. He could be a little floppy about the ears, sometimes.
"Oh, a Knight!"
He did not have much knowledge about knights, but he had heard of them, at least. He could not awaken them or help them, and they didn't even have phones or henshin pens. He supposed he was just a bit bias, but he thought being a Senshi was probably a lot more fun.
At the mention of food, his tummy rumbled louder than his purrs.
"Oh, roast beef? I thought you smelled good! I mean. It... smelled... something smelled good. I wasn't smelling you. I was... uhm. I would love some if you don't mind!"
He rubbed his head against her, looking toward the picnic basket excitedly. What other treasures awaited in there? He was tempted to go and stick his head in it to investigate, but was worried he might overstep or upset her, and he did not want to risk the roast beef she had promised.

"Yes, a knight."
And so was her husband, but she wasn't going to divulge that information yet. Not here, anyway. One beacon of a White Moon agent was enough for now. She didn't want to put anyone here in any undue danger because she was introducing herself.
She heard his tummy rumbling and laughed, sitting down to paw through her basket. She found what she was looking for and pulled the container out. It was fresh with some gravy in the bottom made of the pan drippings. She moved some to a smaller container that he could eat from, setting it on the bench for him to reach.
"There you go."
She wasn't the least bit put off by his comments about smell. After all, she had a famously awkward husband and dealt with that rather well. He seemed like such a cute little thing, and sort of hapless, if she thought about it. Kyndall idly pet him as he ate, scritching the base of his tail as she did with Dogby and Gizmo.
"Would you like to come home with me tonight? We're having chicken. My husband is the librarian and he has a lot of books and might bore you to death but you're welcome if there's no one you need to report to later. One of us would enjoy company on our patrols later, in any case."

"Oh that smells good!" Hadaya shuffled to the food, putting his head in to the container and sniffing at the roast beef for a thoughtful moment. He knew he wanted it, it was just instinct to be careful. Not that he knew what poison smelled like, but at least the motion of making absolutely sure this was actually food made him feel better about it.
Then he dug in, taking a big bite and looking up at her with the roast beef sticking out of his mouth. His eyes were all that could really relay his emotions when eating the food, but they were clear enough: they grew incredibly wide and then he plopped down to sit and chew, closing his eyes as he happily did so.
As he nommed his delightful new meal, he felt her giving him scratches, and he lifted his bottom up toward the scratching. He did not seem to notice the movement, though he did not have a tail to lift up to show his approval.
"You have chicken? That does... does sound really good," he managed to say, once he ate enough of the food to get words out. He was still chewing, and he looked a little embarrassed when he realized he was talking with his mouth full. He crouched down a bit, putting his paws up to cover his face and spoke into them. "But I wouldn't want to... to impose. I would... uhm. I... I mean... uhm..."
His words went away for a bit, and he mewed at her before sticking his face back in the roast beef container to hide. And also to eat more of the delicious food.

"Oh, nonsense. It's nothing to have an extra mouth to feed, so long as you don't mind the dogs."
She and Tony spoiled the corgis rotten and both were sweet and cuddly as the day was long. Playful, yes, but hardly capable of doing any harm to anyone. Except, perhaps, of licking them to death. She didn't really worry about that with Hadaya. They'd take to him just fine if he showed any interest at all in playing with them.
"Besides, my husband would love to talk to you. He might talk your ears off but I'll make sure it's worth it."
She always made enough food to feed an army, anyway, and it was just her, Tony, and Nate and her stepson rarely came out of his room. It had felt like they were making progress with him calling her mom and then...nothing. Less than nothing. She barely saw him.
"There's a warm couch and plenty of pillows, if you're interested."

Hadaya looked up at her and frowned.
"Well... I... uhm... I mean, I don't mind dogs it's usually just... if they mind me."
He was pawing at the bench without really noticing it, digging one paw's claws into the wood and then releasing, only to do the same with the other. It was almost like the usual happy kitty paws that most cats did in moments of bliss, but this was borne on nerves alone. He looked like he was pacing in place on his front paws only.
The promise of food, company, and a comfy place to hang out was delightful to him. His stomach and strong desire to sleep on warm, soft things always won out over his caution. Usually to disaster, but it was hard to learn from his many, many mistakes.
"Well, I think I would like to come over, then, if you don't mind! I promise I won't be any trouble."
Famous last words.

Kyn wasn't worried about letting Hadaya into her home. She was sure Tony would want to meet him and it might be nice to have an animal in the house that did not immediately gravitate to her husband. Both pups were unmistakably daddy's girls, as was their daughter. He seemed to charm everyone he ever came across, his gift.
But it had worked out well for her, in the end.
"Come on."
He could walk along beside her if he wanted to, or there was a perfectly good basket to ride along in. She wasn't bothered by either one since her car was in the parking lot.
"Gizzy and Dogby like everyone. They just might lick you...a lot. And try to get you to play with them."
Of course, they'd be at work with Tony for another few hours or so. In the meantime he could get to know the house a bit. She got them home and let them both into the house on the quiet cul de sac, smiling at her living room with pictures of their family everywhere.
"Come in. Make yourself comfortable. Are you thirsty?"

Hadaya moved to follow her, but he had to stop short when he reached the edge of the bench. How he hated going down. Jumping up was the easy part, but everything looked a lot more intimidating when he was looking down at it. And landing on his front paws first always made them hurt, so he preferred not to jump down if he had something he could climb down instead.
At the moment, he did not, but he did have another option.
Crouching down and taking a breath, Hadaya worked the muscles of his legs into a coil and then made a flying leap toward the basket. He landed on the edge of it, catching it with his paws and then hauling himself up gracelessly into it, kicking his little feet as he went. He was happy to be carried in there, plus he got to introduce himself to the other remains of the meal that were still in there.
The car ride to her house blew his little mind. He had never been in a car before, and he was up and out of the basket immediately, sitting on the front dash and staring with wide eyes, hunched down, at all the things outside that were whipping by. At least he knew he was safe in the car, but it was fascinating to watch, and he had never seen anything like it.
He was not exactly fast when he ran on his stubby legs: the scenery did not often blur.
It was much nicer to be in the house, and he padded in after her as politely as he could, even stopping to wipe his paws on the welcome mat, though the mat was weird on his pads and he had to shake out all of his feet one by one to get rid of the lingering feeling of the texture.
"Oh, this is very nice!" he said, brightly, looking around. "You live here all the time?"

She chuckled at his leap and his fascination with her driving. The world did look bright and lovely today and it put a smile on her lips.
"Yep. It's our home.We bought it to have room for all of our kids."
She had worried at first that it would be too big. There was room for each of their three children to have their own room as well as the combined office and library for their work. Kyn had also insisted on having room for a guest room, knowing that things always seemed to happen in their lives with unexpected results. So far that had been a fruitless call with Harmony moving out but at least it was there.
"Make yourself at home. Sarah will be home soon and Tony after that."
She moved into the kitchen to empty the basket, noticing that there were not as many leftovers now as there had been when she left the library. She shook her head and put things away, getting everything ready for dinner and letting Hadaya tend to himself until Tony came home from work. It was easy to hear where she was, though, if he got lonely.
"If you want a nap there's a bed just there." she called, indicating the pet bed over in the corner of the kitchen next to the dog's food dishes.

Hadaya was happy to be here, and he looked up at Kyndall with a bright look on his face. He was purring, though he had forgotten that dogs would be coming later, and might ruin the wonder of his current visit.
He went to investigate the bed she pointed out to him, but it smelled like dog and did not look very comfortable. No, as a cat, he preferred something a little higher up and out of the way. He opted to hop up onto the sofa, with a bit of difficulty as he was not the best at jumping, and then followed the arm of it until he could settle on the back of the chair.
Yes, this was much better. Cushioned, a bit higher off the ground, and smelled like his new human friend more than it did the dogs.
Much better.
It did not take him long to dose off while waiting for the promised new friends to arrive. He was a bit nervous about meeting so many people in one day, but he was doing his best to not get overwhelmed. And when he was scared or feeling too pent up, a nap usually helped. At the very least, it got his mind off of things.

Kyndall hummed to herself as she made dinner, waiting for Tony to come home from work. They had a few hours to kill and she spent it doing all of the little things she did to make their house comfortable and inviting, including baking cookies. She was very much in the mode of fifties house wife sometimes but it was what made her happy and no one really complained.
The table was set, dinner cooling on the stove, and she had a bottle of wine on the counter breathing, ready to enjoy with dinner.
When everything was set she came over and pet Haddy, stroking down his back as she watched TV quietly, before dozing off herself. Sarah came home with her babysitter and Kyn hugged and kissed her, marveling how she had gotten so big already. It seemed like only yesterday she was an infant and now she was walking and talking for herself. It was thrilling and terrifying. She was too young yet to remember talking cats so Kyndall was not worried.
"Kitty!"
Sarah recognized them from books and her babysitter's house though they did not have any of their own. She ran toward the couch and climbed onto it with all of Haddy's grace before making grabby hands for him.
