Shifting her bag to her other shoulder while trying not to lose her page in her textbook while reading, Kodi walked carelessly among the crowd of those traveling between classes. Or maybe they were just hanging around with nothing else to do? She really wasn't sure nor was she paying enough attention to figure it out. Her textbook was actually more interesting than she had originally given it credit. It was about the history of music, talking about where it was theorized it originated, the different cultural types, how they influenced one another.
It was not JRR Tolkien book, but it wasn't half bad and she was excited for the class it was required of!
Kodi heard a startled gasp, looked up and just managed to avoid running into someone. "Sorry!" She squeaked and looked around for a place to sit. Most of the tables or wall spaces had someone at them already, so she picked one that was only occupied by a single boy. He wouldn't mind, right?
Setting her bag down, Kodi flashed him a smile before turning back to her textbook and turning the page. She was just about done with this chapter and then she'd be able to move on to the homework portion. Or perhaps she'd hold off on that and go visit Magiore? Well, she'd claim she was going to see her brother, but really she wanted to go say hi to Rummy.

Nathan Darrow was starting to get a little nervous about all the changes in his life. Not that he would ever admit it, but it was definitely beginning to dawn on him that nothing was going to go back to how it was. Ever since falling in love with someone, and knowing that was what it was, he had... grown up.
A lot.
And maybe being a senshi was part of that, too. He knew responsibility now, and did not run away from it like he always had. He did not force people away from him, but rather did his best to be there for them. He had friends. A team. A real life. It was not something he had ever imagined, or even really wanted, but now that it was here he realized it was the only thing he had ever needed.
Everyone had to grow up some time.
So here he was, checking out the campus and pondering becoming a student, like everyone else, to make up for the years of school he missed when he was a kid. He was sitting down, pondering this next step in his existence, and looked at the girl as she plopped down beside him.
"Interesting book, huh?" he asked, noting she had not looked up from it very much. He had never been much of a reader, despite his dad being a librarian. Of course, he had only known his dad after he was already well into his rebellious teenage phase.

Okay so her original intent of stopping when she reached the end of the chapter was null and void. She was already several pages into the next chapter without even paying attention. It probably didn't help that she actually enjoyed reading in general. But it wasn't too often one could find a textbook they liked this much!
It took her almost a full minute to realize that yes, someone was talking to her. Oops! Kodi blinked and looked across at the guy she'd sat next too. "Huh? Oh! Oh it totally is."
Way for her brain to fail to function. She laughed at herself.
"Sorry, I guess I was zoning out pretty hardcore." She finally dog-eared the corner and closed it. "Honestly didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I am. Y'know, textbooks are supposed to be boring. Or something." Like it was taboo for them to be good.
"Oh farkle, I hope you don't mind if I sit here too?" Kodi asked belatedly, glancing at her little section she'd sort of... taken over already. "I'm Kodi!" Might as well just roll with it, right? Totally.

Nathan had never been much for reading, so he did not really understand her enthusiasm. As far as he remembered from school, and every television show or movie that featured kids in school, reading textbooks was one of the least fun things they could do. It was, in fact, something most people avoided.
He did remember that when he was in school, he rarely touched a textbook for anything other than drawing in it or hitting someone with it.
Though his father ran a library, Nate did not read much. He did not visit the library often enough for that, and did not even have an account there to check out books with. Not that he would need one, he supposed, considering his dad would probably just let him borrow stuff if he ever asked. That was the point, though. He never asked.
"I don't care if you sit there," nate said with a casual shrug, "the name's Nate. Guess you're a student here, huh?"

In an attempt to not take up so much space, she put a few of her things back in the bag she'd been carrying. Even if he said he didn't mind, it probably would make things less awkward, right? Maybe?
Probably not.
Kodi gave him a nod and a smile. "Nice to meet you, Nate. And yep! I just started this semester. It's kinda intimidating but exciting at the same time." She paused, considering that. "Well, the 'feeling like a grown up' is exciting." She even did air quotes with it!
"What about yourself? Are you a student too?" That wasn't a dumb question, was it? But then... he'd asked the same thing. It would be nice to find a few people that were students here she could talk with. Though if she was being honest, he was probably the first person she'd bothered to try talking with...
Maybe she was more like her brother than she thought.
That thought made her make a face that she quickly swept away and hoped Nate hadn't caught.

Nathan nodded his head.
He was kind of worried about going back to school, though he would never show it. He just knew that, technically, he was well behind everyone else and would have to work harder than he was used to in order to catch up. He had to take a lot of general education classes to get his high school degree in place, then he would have to figure out what he wanted to do for a major.
It was not like he was particularly good at anything but being a senshi and playing video games. He doubted there were classes for either of those things. Maybe he should study library science, like his dad, and take over the family business some day.
That thought made him laugh inwardly. Yeah, right: that would never happen.
"I'm not a student yet. I was thinking about it, though. I mean. Going back. I never finished high school. I dunno, though, seems like a lot of work." But if he wanted to support Elle, he had to better himself. It just made him wrinkle his nose in distaste, as he was very used to just slacking off.
The idea of homework was not exciting at all.

Not yet, huh? Kodi gave him a curious look. Why hadn't he finished high school? Going off of his looks he seemed like a pretty good guy. Not the type she'd expect drop out of high school. Maybe something had come up that forced him to be unable to finish? Or maybe his school was shut down? There was suddenly several far-fetched theories forming in her mind.
"It's not all bad." She replied. "You get to learn some interesting things. Classes aren't too long. Or at least some of them aren't." Kodi added as an afterthought. "I can at least admit I enjoy DCU much more then I did high school. Can't say you're missing much there."
She gave him a smile. "What sort of stuff are you interested? Like courses you'd take." She hoped that wasn't being too nosy. Magiore would probably have scolded her with a single look if he'd been there.

Nathan nodded his head thoughtfully. He would probably not be like, say, his dad whenever Camelot went on a patrol if he went back to school. Camelot was terribly old, compared to all the other knights and senshi out there. Nate was not that old, for a college student, so taking some classes would not make him too much a fish out of water...
Why was he worried about something stupid like that? He had all the confidence in the world: he did not need to care what other people thought of him. If he was going to go back to school, it would be for him.
And for Elle.
"At least you can pick what classes you want, right? And what time they're at. So I don't really have to take, like, early morning classes if I don't want to? I guess I'd want to study something like... music or... I dunno. I'm not really good at much. I just want to be able to get a job, you know, and apparently college looks good for that."
He was being more honest than he thought he would be, considering he did not even really know this girl, but it was a big worry for him and it did actually feel nice to be talking about it. Even in a limited way.

Kodi nodded in response. "Yep! You can pretty much customize your own schedule. Though there are some classes, like the more specialty classes, that might be a little more difficult to work with. Only because they don't have as many options for days." Her expression may have lightened up a bit more at mention of music.
"Oooh, music would be a fun choice! I'm actually studying for music therapy. But the classes are pretty awesome. And that's what everyone says." She laughed a little. "Everyone just wants to be able to get a job. That's why I chose something I actually enjoy."
Giving him a curious look, Kodi rested her chin on her hand. "Well, the easiest thing to do is think about what you enjoy doing. I like music, but I also like helping people. Which is how I found my degree!" She paused, then pressed on. "What do you enjoy doing, Nate? That's where I'd start!"
It didn't really occur to her that her question might be a little more personal, but she did like helping others and encouraging them.

Nate frowned thoughtfully. He doubted he could specialize in anything, anyway. What would he major in? Video games? Senshi-ing? Music was the only real option, as far as he could think at the moment.
Anyway, he was already well beyond needing to learn anything about being a senshi, as far as he was concerned. He was the master, and even had some folks who kinda qualified as students.
"Music therapy? Sounds hokey. Er. I mean. You know, sounds interesting." He frowned. He really had to stop jumping immediately to the most insulting thought in his head when talking to people. It used to be that he liked seeing how fast he could piss someone off, but right now he was actually trying to have a real conversation.
Pissing her off was the opposite of what he wanted.
"Anyway. I guess I'd just have to think about it some more. No real guarantee I'll even sign up for school soon anyway."

Instead of being offended, Kodi laughed. "It's okay. Not everyone has heard of it or thinks it sounds that interesting. But for me, I really like helping people. And I love music. So... it was a nice combination of the two loves." She gave Nate an encouraging look. "You could always do something like that. You like music. So what is something that you'd like to be able to do with music?"
That was how she'd done it, anyways. She hadn't known what to even consider for her degree. But she'd looked through music related ones, thought about what she could do with them, and found music therapy!
"Well, it's only a few more years of school you'd have to do," in theory she thought, "And once completely done, you'd totally have more leverage in jobs!" She tired to be encouraging, having just met Nate and all. But she had told him she liked to help.
"What sort of things do you like to do for fun?" She asked. "That's another way to find something you'll enjoy studying for." Hopefully she wasn't bordering the 'too nosy' category.

Nate nodded his head. This whole 'being nicer to people' thing was... okay. He was trying, at least, and that was all that could be expected of him. There was a time, after all, that he went out of his way to avoid everything he could when people were expecting things out of him. In fact, he would usually do the exact opposite.
Being a senshi helped him grow up a bit more.
A little, anyway.
"Punch someone in the face? I mean, there are very few things I am actually good at, and they don't combine well with things that might eventually lead to careers."
If only fighting the Negaverse and general evil doers was a lucrative skill: he would be made, and would not even have to worry about going back to school.
"I guess for now I'll just focus on the gen ed stuff, and getting caught up from high school. I'll worry about... you know, actually making something of my life... some other time.
He grinned at her, offering her a shrug. Things would figure themselves out, he hoped, without him having to put too much effort into it. Ugh. Effort.
