She wasn't quite sure how long she stood outside just staring at all the delicious looking baked goods in the window before she actually decided to enter the premisis. It smelled so very good inside! This place had been a chance find, one morning not too long ago. She'd been in a hurry and skipped out on breakfast only to be stopped in her tracks as she passed by the bakery. And out of curiosity and hunger, she'd entered and gotten a bagel.
Then she'd come back and gotten another bagel. A doughnut. Some fresh bread to take home for dinner.
Okay. She was starting to become a familiar face in the shop. Something that didn't bother Kodi at all. In fact, she actually kind of liked having a familiar place to stop in and get a small snack. Especially the variety that went well with any tea she planned on making that day!
Today in particular, Kodi had been planning on trying a new summer tea she'd picked up. It had peaches and lavender with a few other herbs. So, naturally, she was going to need a good snack to compliment this. Which was how she wound up outside the bakery again. There were too many choices that had looked rather appealing in the front window. When she finally entered, Kodi inhaled the fresh aromas of baking bread. Smiling, she skimmed through the items of choice for today, wondering what to get.

Barry heard the door open and looked up from the counter, smiling in greeting as he was always willing to do. Sure, it was not the biggest store on the block, and most people had other places to go for their baked good needs, but he was doing pretty alright considering all that! And he was happy.
Because he was doing what he loved.
He recognized the girl as the one that liked the breads, as far as he remembered, and she was always a welcome sight in the store. She had good taste. He was just baking up a batch of cookies to add to his sweets display, but he was always happy to oblige a customer first and foremost.
"Hello there! Are you looking for anything in specific today? Bagels?" She had gotten a couple before, after all!

Oh goodness what had she decided on getting while outside? She'd already forgotten. And changed her mind about a bajillion times! There were just too many things that sounded good whenever she stopped by here. Plus, it was always such a friendly environment.
Kodi paused in her browsing to look up as she was greeted, giving the shop owner a big smile. "Hi again! Oh man, bagels sound good. But so do the muffins. And the baguettes." See? Too many choices! It was probably a good thing that her brother never came here with her. He'd tease her endlessly.
"What would you recommend today?" She asked, catching a whiff of the freshly baking cookies too.
They smelled so good! She was doomed.

Barry chuckled and watched her, nodding his head thoughtfully as she struggled to decide on what she wanted. That was one of his favorite kinds of customer, as it meant they had wide tastes, and honestly liked the things he had to offer in his shop. He had no problem letting them take as much time as they needed to decide.
As long as they enjoyed what they ended up with!
"Oh, let's see. The bagels just came out, so they're the freshest, but nothing is really... not fresh! I'd probably go for one of those, and of course, a cookie. Here, would you like a sample?"
He moved to offer her one of the cookies, which was less a sample and more... well. A free cookie. He could not help himself, really. Making people happy was always the first thing he was concerned about.

Even as she spoke with the shop owner, Kodi kept glancing around at all her choices and attempting to make one. But hearing his recommendation about the bagels made her grin and nod. "Those sound perfect then!" Of course... now she had to decide what kind of bagel. Decisions! Decisions.
Would she like a sample? How could she possibly say no! Kodi gave a sheepish smile with a tiny hint of pink coloring her cheeks as she nodded.
"You're goods are always so delicious! I'd never pass up a sample." And the cookie lived up to her words. The fact that it was fresh out of the oven just made it that much better. "So good~"
Licking a couple fingers, Kodi tilted her head slightly. "Do you have any of the everything bagels?" She figured he would, but he was so helpful and it felt nice talking to him! "One of those with that yummy honey oat cream cheese sounds excellent!"
On impulse, she held out her hand. "I'm Kodi. I guess it's only proper I introduce myself since I seem to keep sticking my nose in here."

Barry loved customers who did not know what they wanted, almost as much as he loved the ones that came in certain of their choices. It was always fun to learn the tastes of his customers, and he quickly developed a bond with the regulars, even if they did not really notice it.
He appreciated them, not just because they supported his business, but because they were the kind of people he liked baking for!
"You got it!"
He was all too happy to go and get her bagel, though he paused when she introduced herself and happily reached over the counter to shake her hand in greeting.
"I'm Barry! I'm sure you knew that. The name tag helps. I'm glad you stop by so much! I hope you keep doing so, too, and we can get to know each other! Regular customers are my favorite kind." He chuckled and then moved to get her bagel ready for her, making sure it was up to his demanding standards before he wrapped it up and put it in a bag, bringing it back to her.
"This one's on the house!" Because he could do that, and mostly liked to give things away. One day he would get an accountant who would smack him upside the head for it, but right now he was free to do whatever he wanted.

She watched with interest as he went about getting the bagel. He was so nice! That was another reason she kept coming back, she realized. The atmosphere was always so welcoming and the owner was never seen without a smile on his face. It was cozy and almost homey here.
Kodi giggled a little as he introduced himself, her eyes glancing at the name tag he wore. Okay he had a point, she probably should have known his name already. But there were just so many good things in here that she... sort of bypassed looking at his name tag!
"Oh you don't have to worry about not seeing me!" She grinned. "Unless you suddenly stopped baking such delicious things. I'll be here quite frequently." So maybe that made her sound like a glutton, but oh well. For someone as nice as he was - and seriously good baked foods - she'd stop by regularly.
She was just starting to pull her bag around to fish out her wallet when Barry informed her it was 'on the house'. Kodi blinked huge eyes at him. "A-Are you sure? I... I mean I don't mind... " She couldn't form her words and snapped her mouth shut before beaming at him with a smile like sunshine. "Oh my gosh, thank you Barry!"

"I don't think I'll stop baking for any reason, ever, so I think it sounds like we've got a good deal in place. I keep baking, and you keep coming here!"
He grinned broadly, liking the sound of it. Of course, that was the whole point of having a shop, but still. It was nice to put it out there, so to speak.
Her reaction to the free food was priceless, and basically encompassed the reason he liked owning his own shop, and being able to do whatever he wanted with it. Within reason, anyway. Sometimes he did get a bit carried away, and gave away more than he actually sold, but he was not in any real monetary danger just yet, so it was fine.
As long as people were smiling, and enjoying the food he made, he felt like he was the richest guy in the world.
"You're welcome! I'm just glad I've got myself a loyal customer. It's very much appreciated!"

She beamed at Barry. This was totally why she loved coming here! He was always such a nice guy and anyone could see he truly enjoyed what the did for a living. Kodi would even like to argue that it was for that reason that his baked goods totally were the best tasting.
"I think we gotta deal then!" Kodi laughed, still floored that he'd just given her free food. She honestly couldn't think of any time someone had done that for her before.
Well, unless she was mooching off her brother... but that wasn't quite the same.
"Well then you're welcome too!" She peeked into the bag, smelling the warm bagel and pulling a little piece off to sample. It was as delicious as she knew it would be.
Giving the shop owner a curious look, Kodi couldn't help but blurt out the question on her mind. "What made you choose to be a baker? If you don't mind me asking. I'm just starting my college year so I like hearing what inspired other peoples choices in careers." She knew Barry wasn't at college, but it was just as interesting talking to the adults.

Barry chuckled, nodding his head. Ah, this was why he loved his job! Well, there were plenty of reasons, but this was certainly a very large part of his fun.
"Well," he said thoughtfully, when she asked him about his start in this field. He thought back, looking up a bit as he did so. It was actually hard for him to really pinpoint when he decided this was what he wanted to do with his time, and his life.
"I guess it was just when I was a kid, and I would bake with my family. We would always spend time together in the kitchen, and I know that we were the happiest when we were making and decorating cookies or cakes together. Especially around the holidays! And we would give them to our neighbors and friends. No one was ever upset to see them, you know?
As I got older, I just thought I wanted to do something that made people that happy... all the time. You have to do the thing that makes you happy, of course, and for me the two things happened to be the same choice: baking!"

Kodi listened pretty intently as he recalled what gave him inspiration to take a step in the baking business. She wasn't too surprised to hear that he'd always been a baker.
She nodded and could relate to that. "I know the feeling. I'm actually going to DCU for music therapy cause I want to be able to help people. And I love music! But it's always been so relaxing to me and I want to be able to share that with others too."
Maybe, if she decided to go the route, she could go around to hospitals or places where people were recovering and needed a way to relax. How better to help someone then a person truly in need?
Or at least that was the thought process behind her choice in degree. And because it was music. Lithiasaur So sorry for taking so long to reply! The past couple months were super busy for me ;n;

Kyrieko No worries. I've been very depressed and not very good at RPing, so it's for the best <3 I don't mind waiting! Barry smiled, nodding his head. It sounded like she was on the right path toward doing something she would find fun and beneficial, and he hoped it worked out for her. It was really a blessing and a wonder to end up with a job one loved to do: and it was a very rare gift at that.
She was so nice, he could only hope for the best for her.
"Well, I'm sure I've kept you long enough! It's a pleasure talking to you, and you'll have to keep me up to date on how the schooling is going! It sounds like a really fun and interesting thing to study, and you look really happy with it! That's the best kind of studying!"
