July 19th 2015

The bylaws of Arcadium city don't put much stock in the term "Serial Killer" officially, the term is overused, nonacademic, sensational. Unofficially, it's a term the Arcadium Police don't like hanging over their heads.

But on the evening of July 19th 2015, officer Linden reported an unsavory homicide scene at a fairly upper crust town house on the East side of town. The victim was a John Doe, but judging by the discarded costume, mask, and gear he'd hidden in a false compartment under his bedroom, he was actually King Crimson, a Cape from before the early days of hero registration. Before the Masked Patriot Act, before Modus, he was a costumed hero from way back. And now he was dead.

The term Serial Killer was going to be used a lot in the next 24 hours, they were already calling him the Apex Predator due to the second murder, but with three it was undeniable, and very sensational. Arcadium had a new serial killer, and his prey? Capes. Superheroes. And three of them were dead already...how many more to follow?

Gameplay + Rules
Legion is a multiplayer 'Pick, Choose, and React' light RPG with an emphasis on survival and puzzle solving. Game flow is simple, but be sure to read all the rules.

Turns
Each post (or turn) a player must:

1. ReAction: Pick your character's reaction to one of the three most recent posts.

2. Action: Further the story with either your character's [or NPC's] actions or words.

3. Challenge: End your turn with a challenge.

The third step is the most difficult, and requires the most thought. A challenge can be anything from your character [or NPC's] sarcastic comment to another character, or something far more complex, like the realization of acquired infection, or perhaps an accusation of infection toward another character. A challenge can even be enviromental, like tripping over a rock, or suddenly having to deal with a pack of hungry mosquitoes.

The only caveat to a challenge is that it must only immediately affect the characters YOUR character is accompanying and the challenge should be fair. It's NOT fair immediately sicking a massive crowd of police officers or mafia men on the party. Now seeing a pair of super-villians moving in from a distance, a locked door that impedes the party's progress, or maybe a shadowy figure down the hall is fine by the rules.

You cannot kill other players in these posts, just their NPCs or yourself. You should also consider continuity in your turns, and don't magically whisk the party to another location or later date. The GMs control the passage of time, but hopefully only loosely.

Turns (posts) can be lengthy or brief, but keep them somewhat dynamic and descriptive. You don't want to drone, but you don't want to be vauge either.

Player Characters
That's you. When you first post, post a brief description of your character. Player Characters should be superheros, and most probably Metahumans at that.
You can include description of height, age, ethnicity, hair/eye color, and costume; or maybe only what another person would SEE upon meeting your character. Your Superhero identity and real life identity should be mentioned as well.

A brief description of their Past, personality, etc., comes in handy as well.

Since Apex Predator is based on the immediate future and fictional locations locations, have fun decide wither or not your superhero (cape) operates in Arcadium, Imperritor, Megalopolis, or another (actual) American city. Why are they investigating the Cape Killer? Did they know Crimson personally? This is a hard boiled mystery with super powers thrown in, enjoy the setting, but think carefully on character motivations...

NOTE Again, players CANNOT kill other players directly; that's what NPCs are for. Players MAY leave other players to die, be arrested, or fingered, but Apex Predator is about the survival of yourself and the other people in the group, a core group working together to take out the killer who soon may be hunting them.

Turning against the party
Hopefully won't become an issue or if it does, a player merely leaves the party in peace, if a player begins to attack another player intending to KILL (not maim, bruise, insult, restrain, or immobilize) a NON-infected characters, that player has surrendered control of the character and has effectively become a hostile NPC, mostly likely to be killed within the next couple of turns. Players can always generate new characters if their character dies.

NPCs
Every player is allowed one NPC at a time, be they a average citizen, another superhero or sidekick, a family member, etc. NPCs are more disposable than Players, and CAN be killed by a player's actions, reactions, or challenges.

NOTE NPCs do not take a whole turn to control directly (they can be included on the side during your player's actions and reactions) and are not subject to the three phases of a player's turn.

(Remember the phases of the turn: 1. ReAction, 2. Action, and 3. Challenge.)

Game Masters
That'd be me, or any of two other players who want to help run the game.(PM me if you want to be a GM)
A Game Master's post is different from a standard player's and is mostly concerned with the environment and mystery. A Game Master CAN sic a massive horde of cops or MODUS commandos on the party, cause the party's vehicle to crash and/or break down, or introduce a whole new location or host of NPC's into the game.

Game Master's posts will be written in italics or bold, and appear usually after a "round" (a round is over when everybody has taken one turn) or two and helps propel the mystery to its conclusion. (beware red herrings)

Party
That's all of the actual players. While perhaps not together at first, I'll make sure (as GM) all the characters meet quickly and are forced into a game of survival as a group. The Party is your lifeline, and you may have to convice or coerce them into helping you with your personal goals, but leaving the party generally means certain death, and working against the party may lead to death for all...

Getting Started
The game begins July 19th, 2015, in Arcadium, a Coastal City in North Eastern America.

The city is sprawling, with Gothic architecture mixing with nouveau riche architecture and modern sensibilities in a striking but somewhat haphazard manner.

The seven main districts are as follows:

1. East Side, Arcadia harbor where the docks and a multitude of lower class apartments cluster. Further out on a discreet set of islands lies the Black Forest theme park, and several fishing channels and inlets.

2.The Financial District is to the West, large marble buildings, home to myriads of businesses, banks, financial hubs and the legal practices that keep them running. Stock market is very busy here.

3. The Triad: The-off center heart of Arcadium, three islands connected by bridges leading to the original city, here the original town hall, churches, Museums, monuments, and police department are found. The area has seen better days but here beats the heart of a romantic city.

4. South End: the point where Arcadium begins to bleed out into its neighboring town of Sweeney, Bachusville, and Momus Island. Here the prestigious Kane Institute and Arcadia University stand as testaments to the power and pomp of the education system, with no fewer than five highly prestigious academy's hosted in this comparatively small area.

5. High Town, situated between the modern heights of the Financial District and the classical tones of The Triad, High town is the area of Arcadium that makes it on all the postcards. Home to a complex network of Hotels, Entertainment hot spots, and the Thirteen Casinos that make up the infamous trust, High Town gave Arcadium the nickname: Vegas of the East Coast.

6. New Town, meaning New Money, the North end of Arcadium plays host to several neighborhoods both rich and poor, where penthouses look out over the Live Theaters and Opera houses that were all the rage before the depression. A myriad of town houses and high rise apartments mark where the New Money that brought the gambling from the rest to roost ran out and borders the scar. Note: One of the more respectable but somewhat dilapidated town houses on the edge of the Scar is where Crimson met his demise on the sixth floor, apartment 611.

7. The Scar if High Town is the Tourist Trap, The Scar is the area City Hall would never want the tourists visiting. A rotting mishmash of ghettos and dilapidated apartment buildings stretching like rusted fingers toward the sky. The Scar i host to several large factories, and several more former factories that now lie rusting and gutted.

Multiple attempts to restore an re-energize the area since the fires and riots of the 30s that first bought the place its name have met with middling success at best. It is hear the mobs have set up shop, where hud housing and unfortunate neighborhoods mate and produce bedraggled offspring. Here is where the unwanted element kick up the feet and call home.

Introduction Post

I want to give everybody a chance to join the game before we really get started, so your first post should consist of your Player's description, your NPC's description should you choose to start with one (if not, wait for your next four posts to pass before introducing one), location in the city specifically in relation to King Crimson's townhouse.

You don't have to set up a challenge with your first post since everybody has the same challenge at first: gaining knowledge of the Victim. (Preferably without the police's interference)

IMPORTANT After posting these things, please wait until this thread goes to a new page before beginning your first turn (I'll bump it if it looks like not many are playing).

NOTE You CANNOT post twice in a row (unless you're a Game Master), but so long as someone else has posted, feel free to react.

(If you want to speak OOC ---that's 'Out Of Character'--- do so in {} brackets or italics with parentheses.)

The Predator is hunting Capes...Will you be next?
