It was three weeks give or take after the night where both Athene and him had witnessed a Squire being forcibly corrupted into the ranks of the Negaverse when Liryn finally decided to speak to Ida.
The two of them were out on patrol together and between them they had run into and managed to dust a youma. At least Liryn was marking it down to a joint effort given that he had managed to get a couple of claw swipes in.
"I'm worried about Athene" he told her, his normally cheerful voice solemn.
Truth be told the small tabby bobtail had been worried about the dark-haired eternal who was their shared team mate and friend for a bit.
There had been a quietness about Athene since the night where the two of them had witnessed the Squire's forcible corruption and whilst that in itself wasn't unusual - Athene generally tended towards quiet - there was a sense of distance, of absentness about this quiet that was unusual...
And whilst Athene was still hitting the patrol beat, he didn't like the way how Athene had started to fall back into the habit of patrolling alone.
He looked up at Ida, his purplish eyes were as solemn as his voice as he continued "Did he tell you about the corruption?"Whimsical Blue Belated start up Blue. As always let me know if anything needs changing :3

The new topic came as something of a surprise and Ida came to stop, her gold heels crunching on rooftop gravel.
"Worried?" She echoed as she sank into a crouch, reaching out to run her hand over Liryn's head in support and comfort. What could Athene be doing to worry him? Athene was sweet and gentle, he had a good head on his shoulders and he was thoughtful and caring. Usually he was the one worrying about her, and she'd given him plenty to worry about these last few months. Patrolling with Liryn had been a way to help soothe those worries, an attempt to get back to how things used to be when she felt normal and did normal things. She had decided she'd never get any better if she didn't put in some effort towards getting back to her old self, so this was part of that.
Had she missed something, though, so wrapped up in her own problems? She felt more than a little assholish for it... ignoring her friends, the people she cared about, in favor of herself. It was a mark of how much she'd changed, really, and she didn't like it.
"No, he didn't... what happened?" Ida said, surprised. She didn't expect Athene to tell her everything about everything, they were both independent adults after all, but why hadn't he shared this piece of their joint powered life? She obviously hadn't been there, when she should have been. Another mark against herself, for flaking on her responsibilities to her team.

Ida’s touch was a familiar and Liryn leaned into the gentle petting with a small purr, his eyes however remained solemn and voice when he spoke still had its serious note. “It was about three weeks ago and I’ve actually been worried for a little bit” he admitted “And so I went out on patrol with Athene.”
Well more that he had caught Arian slipping out with the intention to patrol and had been a furry little shadow until the dark-haired young man had agreed to take him along with - but that was just semantics.
“There was a message to Athene’s phone whilst we were out - from a Squire over by Central Park. He called himself Ploutonion Squire of Saturn, said there was a General Queen after him and so we headed over to Central Park as fast as we could and I don’t think we were the only ones because whilst there were lots of chaos auras, there were also lots of Order auras - Ganymede was there and so was that Knight from the Black Watch meeting - Valhalla. Chaldene was there too.”
His voice turned subdued “But we couldn’t get to the Squire and the General Queen came and corrupted the Squire right in front of all of us.”
His whiskers drooped “He was screaming and it was horrible and then his aura changed.” There was a distant look in his eyes as he continued “He changed too.”
And then he looked at Ida, his purplish eyes fierce for a moment, it reflected in his voice as he said “The General Queen held him up like some kind of trophy - like he was some thing rather than a person.”
The fierce note slipped out of his voice, the subdued note back as he said “Athene’s not been the same since and I don’t like how he’s suddenly taken to patrolling on his own.” So the patrolling on his own wasn’t technically a new thing - both Athene and Ida and Tsui did and he was figuring Chaonis did it from time to time. Hey he even did bits and bobs alone.
But this time it felt different.Whimsical Blue sorry about the double quote, Blue

The young woman listened as Liryn told her about Athene's troubles and the squire that had been corrupted in the park. Her face darkened, but she kept her light stroking of his soft fur.
"Ploutonion..." She murmured, filing that name away with others that had fallen to the other side. People they had list. She had to hope they could bring them back someday, but there was no guarantee and it saddened her. She didn't want to fight fallen allies...
"Corruption is painful and the Negaverse isn't gentle." Ida said when he finished, her eyes sad. "Athene is a gentle person with a sweet heart... I can see why its gotten him so upset."
Reaching, the senshi sat on her knees and gently picked up the guardian, settling him in her lap for a cuddle.
"I don't know what we can do for him, besides be there, I guess. See if we can get him to talk about... keep him company and let him know we care about him." She said as she ran her fingers through his fur. "Do you think there is something extra we should be worrying about? I trust you... if you say there is, I can try to do something about it."
It was hard to say what she could do about it... some days she wasn't entirely sure of herself, let alone her ability to help someone else. But for Athene, who had been her friend and trusted partner, she would try her best.

"I... I don't know" Liryn admitted. "I've been kind of worried about Athene since before that night in the park, because he's been all quiet lately and not just since the Squire's corruption. But..." For a moment his voice trailed off as he leaned his small body into Ida's petting fingers.
"I can't put my paws on it, but something feels wrong but I don't know what it is" he said at last and there was a note of frustration in his voice.
Ida's comment about being there made sense, but it still felt he should be doing more. After all Athene was one of his and Liryn didn't like it when his senshi were hurting and he didn't like the feeling of being shut out.
Because how was he supposed to help them if they wouldn't tell him what was wrong.
He fell silent, the silence stretching for a few moments before he eventually broke it again "I don't think he should be patrolling alone." Particularly not at the moment - especially not at the moment.

"I don't know..." Ida murmured softly, her fingers working through Liryn's fur to ruffle and stroke him. "I'll see if I can get him to talk to me. Its not much, but I'll try. Its really hard to deal with loss and failure sometimes, I know that feeling really well. Maybe talking it out with someone who knows will help him a little. We can hope, anyway."
She let the silence be as Liryn worked through his thoughts. Ida kept up the gentle stroking, hoping in some small way it gave her little friend comfort. He far more than a cat's mind, it was hard to think of him as just a cat any more, but sometimes he seemed to still enjoy the small things all Earth cats liked. Food, cuddling, warm places.
Reaching, Ida rubbed him gently behind the ears when he expressed his concern and she offered a small, gentle smile.
"I can patrol with him too, I think. Its safer, really, for the both of us. Its something we should have been doing more of anyway, but our schedules just get in the way. I'll make a point of trying to coordinate with him better, ok?" Maybe spending more time with her friend would even help her own issues a little. Support was important to healing, sometimes, and lord knew she needed that too.

It was perhaps a not so secret secret that Liryn as it happened was very fond of scritches. He was also partial to cuddles and whilst he tended to prefer scritches just a little more than cuddles - both were good - especially when they came from a friend.
There were no other auras close by - at least he couldn’t feel any auras close by, be they friendly or not and so he was content to continue sitting whilst Ida’s fingers stroked through his fur in half petting and half combing motions, if for just a little.
“Patrolling with him would be good” he agreed, adding “Besides it’s not really safe to patrol alone anyway.” His words were matter-of-fact, but not condemning - because whilst not patrolling alone was the ideal - things didn’t always fall out that way.
He rubbed his face against Ida’s hand and then looked up at her, his purplish eyes still serious “You know I’m there for me if you need me.” Another head rub “I’ll always be there for you, Athene, Tsui and Chaonis.”
He tried to be there for all the senshi he’d come come across and met, but the PSSG were his team - the ones he had chosen.
For them he wouldn’t just try - for them he would be there - whatever it took.

The orchid senshi smiled gently as she gathered the team's cat up into her arms, giving him a hug that softened into a cuddle with her fingers running through his fur. His weight felt nice. His warmth was comforting. And most of all, the bright mind housed in that small body was a wonder with its sense of right and wrong and its loyalty and caring.
"It is better not to patrol alone." She said as she rubbed her cheek against the top of his head. "I know you'll be there, Liryn, and thank you for that. It means a lot to me. I know it means a lot to Athene, even if he's going through a rough spot. We'll bring him back, don't worry."
How they were going to do that was still sort of up in the air, but she certainly planned to try. After another moment, Ida released the Guardian to the ground again and pushed herself to her feet. Slender hands brushed off her skirts and she offered a smile downwards.
"Ready to go?" She said, putting a measure of cheerfulness into her voice for his sake. They could do this, together.litian wrap here or on your post?

"I'm ready" Liryn confirmed, as Ida placed him back on the ground, back arching for a moment into a stretch.
"Well okay, now I'm ready."
He padded after Ida as the two of them resumed their patrol and whilst he was still worried about Athene he felt better for having spoken to her.
Because Ida was right - the two of them would bring the dark-haired eternal back - together.
