((Indri's pronouns: They/them))
It was morning. Indri looked at the hoof prints on the ground, questioning. Those were definitely kirin hooves. They were not any sort of skilled tracker so couldn't be sure that the hooves belonged to Syri, but Syri's smell lingered in the air. That was enough to make Indri's heart ache. It had been years since they had seen Syri. They know that their brother was safe and happy with a mate, but the distance was always too great for them to make the journey to see their brother. Now, it was time. They had arrived into the area last night, but waited until morning to make the meeting. They knew they should have gone the previous night, but uncertainty had kept their hooves still.
What if Syri wasn't happy to see them? It had indeed been years, and they hadn't exactly warned Syri in advance. That was probably a mistake. Normally Indri would have sent a bird, but the local birds were all too busy with nesting and raising chicks to go about on message missions. So Indri had come unannounced. Now, they fretted. Syri was certainly close, but now they grew hesitant. Was this really a good idea?
