A light breeze teased her mane, making her tail feathers ruffle softly as she walked. The sun was shining through the trees and lighting her path though she wasn't sure if said path would actually lead her anywhere. A week or so prior, it had certainly lead her - or rather lead someone to her - to an interesting meeting! Cassi was still astonished to have discovered a little about herself she'd never known! Her grandmother had always talked about the Vanaras herd she was seeking, but never spoke of anything before them. Sin, the prince of the Herd of the Moon, had given her some things to think about as she was fairly certain she'd done the same for him.

Cassi sighed lightly, glancing up at the birds singing in the trees. Her thoughts had been very torn lately. Did she continue to search for the herd her grandmother had spoken so much about? Go back home to grandmother and ask her about the Herd of the Moon? Continue to wander this forest endlessly until her mind was driven mad?

Well, that last was something she seemed to be doing pretty good at already. But at least the forest was giving her plenty of time to practice her dancing. Not that she'd been quite so brave to dance in the moon's light after her meeting with Sin. She was paranoid about who else might sneak up on her. Not that the stallion had done such a thing! But someone else might. And when she danced, she lost herself in it. It would be easy for someone with less friendly intentions to get close to her.

The mare shook her head to try and rid it of such ill thoughts. It would do her no good to think like that! "Maybe it's time for a break... " She thought aloud, following some of the birds as they flew towards a glistening pool of light. Upon getting closer, she discovered it to be a small stream, the soft sound of running water helping to ease her anxiety. A good place for a break, she decided.

User ImageShe wasn’t hiding. Nope. Not hiding. Ceridwen wasn’t sure if she was trying to convince herself of the world at large of that. Her last encounter with others had not ended well, with her leaving nearly crying because of what they had said. So here she was in the forest not hiding from everyone.

Following the stream, Ceridwen knew, wasn’t the best idea for avoiding others because they would come there to drink but she didn’t want to get lost in the unfamiliar area either. That had happened before and it took her ages to find her way back to somewhere that she recognized. Ceridwen stopped for a moment to contemplate that stream. It was not very large, which was good because maybe no one would use it. It sang and danced over the rocks and down the tiny waterfalls. The sounds were soothing and the reflections beautiful.

That thought of the beauty of the water only made her remember the teasing that she had just endured. Ceridwen knew that she was ugly and strange looking, with her missing pieces and oozing stuff. She had been told that enough times to internalize the beliefs. But that didn’t mean that it didn’t hurt when others pointed it out. Especially in those voices. Those singsong voices. This was not what she wanted to be thinking about. In an attempt to outrun her own thoughts Ceridwen took off down the middle of the stream sending water flying everywhere. She had no care to whether she would turn a hoof on a rock or a hole, she didn’t care about anything at the moment. She just wanted to get away from it all.

True, some part of her mind half expected to find - and maybe secretly hoped - someone out here. So far she'd not been disappointed. But what Cassi had not been expecting was the sudden water that splashed all over her face. So focused on taking a drink and her own thoughts, the mare failed to hear the galloping of hooves. A startled cry erupted from her as Cassi reared back, eyes wide and nostrails flared. What... what had just happened?!

Blinking and dancing in place, trying to lower her own heart rate while at the same time expecting something to come after her, Cassi finally was able to focus on the form of another mare. One that was running. Had... she found something out here that was a threat?

Her instinct to flee reared up and gripped her tightly. Without much thought, she took off along the side of the river, following the other mare.

"W-Wait!" She called, trying to catch up but also peeking over her shoulder for some unseen danger. Looking forward again, Cassi almost ran into a low hanging branch, jumping sideways into the stream and coming to a complete halt. Her body shook a little in fear, legs unable to move. She didn't know where she was, what she was running from, or why the mare ahead of her was in such a mad dash.

"P-Please... please wait!" Cassi tried hollering again, trying to force her hooves to move.

User Image The stampeding down the creek did not stop as Ceridwen realized that another was there drinking, though she did make the effort to not run into the mare. This new mare would only continue the verbal abuse she had been enduring early, Ceridwen was sure. She just kept going down the creek trying to get away from her own thoughts. But she wasn’t escaping those thoughts at all. The more she ran the more clearly she seemed to hear the teasing and the shame that was reverberating in her mind.

Faintly, above all that was going on in her head, Ceridwen heard a ‘wait.’ But she ignored it. She was only speeding up in response to what she was thinking. But at the ‘please’ Ceridwen faltered and slowed, until she finally came to a stop. People didn’t say please to her that often. What did the mare want? Please implied politeness which implied less teasing to Ceridwen. Maybe, just maybe, this mare would not add to her humiliation?

Sides heaving from exertion, Ceridwen turned to meet the mare and even slowly walked back towards her. She needed to move around a bit, Ceridwen realized, or she would be in trouble. She had over done herself, and as annoyed as she might have been for being stopped she was also grateful because it saved her from injury or much worse. Plodding up out of the creek bed she continued back the way she had come. Her hooves sank into the water-softened earth a little. At one point she even slipped and had to quickly dance to recover. Huffing as she got her feet back under her, Ceridwen finally looked at the mare that had called out to her.

She was a unicorn, not that that meant much. Unicorns could be just as cruel as anyone else, or as thoughtless as some had claimed they were actually being. She was pretty too, which made Ceridwen want to turn and flee again. But she had committed to this, and Ceridwen was going to at least see what the mare wanted. The feathers for a tail were a surprise though. But again, Ceridwen was not unaware that strange combination of breeds were out there. She was one of those strange breed combinations.

“Yes?” Ceridwen asked hesitantly. “Are you in need of something?” It couldn’t be healing, the other mare could heal on her own, but Ceridwen assumed that was the only reason to stop her. Stopping a little away from the other mare, Ceridwen fanned out her wings to cool off her sides, without realizing that it could be interpreted as an aggressive movement. She waited expectantly and anxiously for the mare’s response. Would she be mean like so many others, or had Ceridwen actually met a nice Soquili?

Cassi squeezed her eyes tight, trying to slow her breathing down and hope to not see whatever might be about to come up behind her. But she couldn't hear anything. In fact, she didn't hear any more splashing from the mare that had been galloping either. She inhaled deeply before letting it out slowly through her nose and opening her eyes again.

There was nothing there. No scary creature trying to attack her. No strange stallions to run into again. Nothing. Except the mare that had been running, she realized.

Cassi watched her warily, finally able to move her legs again and shift her weight from one foot to the other. The mare was very strange looking, almost like she was cracking? Which didn't make sense to Cassi. And there was a strange substance... was it oozing? Glowing? She had to blink her eyes to stop focusing on them and look at the mare herself. There was a pair of wings along her sides and what looked like a unicorn horn. Except there was also a pair of horns behind this as well. Her tail was very strange too.

Hearing the hesitant voice speak, Cassi met the other mares eyes. "W-Why... were you running?" She asked in an equally hesitant voice. "There... there's nothing chasing you... right?" Oh please say no! Please say no.

Ceridwen shifted anxiously. She could feel the looks that the other mare was giving her. The judgment and decisions that were made. Weak, ugly, stupid, strange. All were words she was intimately familiar with. She saw when the mare shifted her focus, and glared a little at the thought that she had met another one. It hurt. She had just begun to get her hopes up, even though she knew that it was hopeless. She would never meet someone that saw Ceridwen as more than her appearance.

It was Ceridwen’s turn to blink at when the mare asked her question. Why did she care why Ceridwen was running? The next question clarified that a little, but Ceridwen was confused and bewildered on what to say. No? But wasn’t that obvious? Would someone really stop if they were being chased? Ceridwen was aware that she didn’t know much about other Soquli’s behaviors outside of their ability to be cruel, so maybe someone would…

“Um…no?” It wasn’t meant to come out as a question, but Ceridwen was so unsure of what was really being asked that her confusion came through in the tone of her voice. Coughing a little startled, Ceridwen asked, “Why do you care?” This ended in a more accusatory tone that needed for the situation. But really, why would anyone care what was going on with her?

Perhaps they were feeding off each other's anxiety. Cassi felt her muscles slowly tensing as the others anxiety showed in the similiar way she shifted her weight. Oh gosh, was there really something out here? The dark mare looked around again, trying not to look frightened. It never occurred to her that the lighter mare might think she was afraid of her.

Cassi's ears lowered and she swallowed at the strange way the mare regarded her after the question. Had she asked something wrong? Was that considered rude? Oh by the stars why hadn't she gone on this stupid quest of hers with someone to accompany her!

"No...?" So there wasn't anything chasing her? Then... why had she been running so fast? And looking so scared before?

Cassi was taken aback by the tone in the mare's return question. She ducked her head a little, shifting her weight again. "I... I was afraid." She murmured sheepishly. "B-Because... I'm alone... out here too... "
