Molly was currently reflecting on the lovely evening she had. She spent one day of her off-island time to go watch a grand fireworks display in some big...city...in the States. A curly head tilted as her brows knitted. What city was it?

Oh...she couldn't recall...Hrm.

Oh dear...

The fireworks were really lovely though! So was the coffee, and the fair food she had. Mmm. Oh...but wait. Wait. That wasn't what she was supposed to be thinking off right now. The Mist Hunter looked down at the violin in her hands.

It'd be oh so terribly long since she last played...she literally blew dust off her case and decided to try and play it again. It'd been so long though...she almost didn't know where to begin. Molly's brows knitted again, and she closed her eyes briefly, listening to the waves wash up on the beach from her spot on a large flat rock. One of her favorite spots to play. Away from others.

Well...it was like riding a bicycle, right? One never forgot how...but right now she was having a bit of trouble getting back onto the bike. Better refresh herself with basics again. Molly tucked the violin under her chin, and started to pluck the strings with her fingers, slowly plucking away to an easy song while murmuring the notes under her breath.

The beach was an excellent place for one to take a walk and calm their thoughts - not that Chance, of all people, needed his thoughts to be calmed, but either way he had decided to meander along the waterside. It was quite lovely, really; the waves crashed gently against the rocks, and the soft strains of music could be carried across the breeze towards him.

...music?

He slowed his steps, Chance glancing around curiously for the source of it. Pretty and delicate, it was the easily recognizable tones of a stringed instrument, though he couldn't be sure which one. He took a few more paces forward, and a redheaded figure could be seen sitting just ahead, a violin tucked beneath her chin.

The curls were familiar, though it had been a while since he'd seen her. A small smile touched Chance's lips.

"Molly?" he called out, making his way towards her. "Is that you?"

Molly started at the sound of her name, much less from a voice she had heard once before, but not often.

She jerked, the curls seemingly taking on a mind of their own as they seemed to pop out for a moment before swaying with her head. Wide eyes looked over at the approaching figure, and after a moment recognition lit up her face. "O-oh! Yes, it's me! Hello---"

Oh no.

Oh no.

Oh no.

She blanked on his name.

Butterscotch! Foiled by her faulty memory and her one-time meeting with the very nice young man what felt like forever ago! It was something unique too! Like...

Charles?

Wait, no. That wasn't unique...

"...Hello!" Molly looked like a deer in the headlights with an awkward smile frozen on her face as she tried to rack her brain for his name.

Charge? No. Uh...Change! Wait...that didn't sound right either.

The mental struggle was painfully clear on Molly's face, despite how much she thought she was keeping it hidden.

OH SHE GOT IT!

...Chaise!

...No. Oh dear.

"H-How are you...!? It's so good to see you again! Gosh, it's been such a long time!" Her freckled face was red on the cheeks, but she was nothing but the utmost sincere in her words.

He actually couldn't recall the last time he had seen Molly; it had been several months at least, but Chance was good with names and faces, even if he tended to keep his distance from many. She was given a pleasant smile, his hands tucked into the pockets of his jeans as he stepped up to her.

"Hey," said Chance lightly, slowing. "It's been a while. I've been doing all right; got promoted and everything, so now I'm just working on bettering myself in the division and all."

He nodded towards her violin. "How have you been? What are you doing out here with that, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Oh!" Molly's eyes widened, and she was briefly distracted from the angst of not remembering Chance's name by the news of his promotion. She placed the violin carefully on her lap and then clapped enthusiastically for him. "Congratulations! That's so wonderful to hear!" She beamed up at him. "You're on your way! You'll be a full hunter in no time!" Molly tilted her head. "Do you like your division?"

She let out a small gasp. "Oh! I've been well! Thank you so much for asking--that's really kind! Shawty--Dakota--my best friend and mission partner-- and I just got back from a rescue mission! We have some down time so..." She picked her violin back up, and smiled up at Chance sheepishly. "It's been so long since I played, I'm trying to remind myself again!"

He gave a melodramatic little bow, arms outstretched to either side. When he straightened, there was a smile on Chance's face. "Thank you," he told Molly, brushing curls from his face. "I'm hoping to become one within the year, but we'll see. And yes, I do," Chance added, smile widening into a grin. "Sun can be a little...well, interesting, but overall I find it very nice."

He leaned against one of the rocks, Chance folding his arms across his chest. The name Dakota was unfamiliar, but he wasn't focused on that just yet, just on the instrument in her hands.

"I didn't know you played," said Chance with interest, gaze sweeping over the violin. "I've always wanted to play, I remember I 'borrowed' a violin from my elementary school once..."

"Oh, sorry!" She tilted her head. "Maybe I'm a violin ninja? I've been playing since I was young, though!" She beamed at the thought, and hoped she'd remember to tell that to Dakota later for fun.

Molly perked up considerably. "Really?" She trailed off for a moment, staring up at the sky, briefly wondering also if there'd be any seagulls today. Oops, she was getting side tracked again...

The Mist Hunter snapped back into focus, rolling her eyes to Chance. "Um...if you can to learn...I...can try teaching you!" A brief pause, and a hand came up to rub the back of her neck. "I'm not certain I'll be the greatest teacher...but I'll try my best!"

He followed Molly's gaze, unfazed by the apparent distraction, before it went back to the violin. It was really very pretty to look at it; all sleek lines and soft wood, slightly darker than the one he'd taken from his elementary school so long ago.

Chance's eyes flickered back up to Molly's, his expression shifting from mild curiosity to bright interest.

"Really?" he asked, a smile breaking out across his face. "I'd love to learn if you'd be willing to help. I know a few of the finger positions from school, but it was so long ago. I could bring you dinner or something in return, as a thank you."

Molly beamed, and nodded her head vigorously. This was immediately followed by a worried look and a rapid waving of her hand dismissively. "Oh, goodness! I appreciate the offer, but that's okay! Really! I'm happy someone wants to learn! It's a really lovely instrument..."

She trailed off for a moment before, almost day dreaming again before she started. "Oh, right!" Molly held out her violin to Chance with a smile. "That's great! We'll make sure to refresh though!" She laughed softly. "This will help me out too!"

He would still bring her dinner on one occassion, whether she wanted him to or not. It was only polite.

Chance glanced at the violin and then reached out with careful hands. He slid his fingers along the neck and picked it gingerly up, holding it as though it was something that would easily break - and it probably would. He plucked once, twice at the strings, soft gestures to hear the sound of it.

"May I?" he asked, glancing at the bow.

"...Uh...?" Molly followed his glance to the bow. "...Oh! Uh..." She tilted her head, and looked at him uncertainly. It wasn't that she doubted his ability to hold it---maybe it was too soon? He was learning after all!

Molly then snapped her fingers, having gotten an idea. She beamed at him. "I'll hand it to you if you can name all the notes for me!"

He grinned down at her.

"Do you mean the notes or the strings? There are a lot of notes," said Chance, glancing at the bow. "but going from lowest to highest, I think, if I remember from when I was a kid...."

He hummed thoughtfully.

"G, D, A, E, E being the highest."

"There are a lot of notes!" Molly agreed, beaming at him. She was incredibly delighted though as he listed off those, and let out a giggle. "Gosh...I'm not sure I have anything to teach you!" She commented, going back to her case and carefully pulling out the bow.

"You seem to be pretty pro already!" She then held out the bow to him.

He gave Molly a pleased hum, happy that he'd managed to get them all right. "No, no," said Chance with a laugh, waving his free hand. "I'm sure when I actually start to play, it'll sound like a dying cat. I took all of two classes in elementary school, and I had to practice in secret when I was at home. My mother threw the instrument away when I was older."

He didn't seem particularly perturbed about this, merely factual, and Chance reached out, sliding the bow gently from Molly's fingers. He weighed it carefully, sliding his hand over the back of it, and then placed it on the strings, gingerly drawing it out.

He was right; it did squeak rather terribly at first, but Chance was gentle and eventually the shrieking noise gave way to something much more muted and musical, even if it still wasn't perfect.

Molly was beaming, but it immediately disappeared into a silent horrified look. Chance's mother threw away his violin when he was trying to learn? That was...awful! "I'm sorry." She told him in earnest, if not with a wee bit of confusion. She just couldn't grasp why a parent would throw away an instrument when someone was trying to learn...

The Mist Hunter then couldn't help but cringe as the bow squeaked across the strings.

No matter how many times she heard that sound...it never got easier.

Her shoulders relaxed as the noise did, and she just quietly observed with a small smile. She'd patiently wait. She thought half the battle with learning was getting a personal feel for the instrument. Everyone was different, after all.
