Personality: Sawyer has been divorced twice, which is more of a marker for his personality than anything I could ever say. His first ex-wife, a woman he married right out of high school, used to say that when they married, he was sweet, honest, loving, and everything a husband should be. However, by the time they got divorced, he was a gorgeous man with a terrible, grumpy personality. His second ex-wife, a silly girl ten years his junior that he wed in Vegas when he was 29, was only his wife for a week before he talked her into signing divorce papersl. Sawyer can still be nice when he chooses to be, and can even be downright thoughtful outside of the courtroom, but it takes a lot of griping to get to that level, unless you're his son. Sawyer's son is just like his grumpy father, and looks up to him like a god.
Inside the courtroom, he's the complete opposite. Many a juror would swoon over the handsome, charming lawyer who pleaded so passionately for their sympathy.

Bio: Growing up in a loving home with a decent-sized family in a small farming community, Sawyer was a good kid. He played sports, helped out on the farm, kept a steady girlfriend, had a life prepared. He was smart enough for college, which his parents saved up for the second they realized their second-born child was too smart to spend his life working the farm, and he was fully prepared to live that life. That is, until he got his longtime girlfriend, Holly, pregnant. He was eighteen, too young to have a baby or a wife, but he rose to the occasion and did his duty. He married his girlfriend and joined the police academy, his eye still on the sky. Working hard, he took college classes on the side and managed to get himself promoted to detective by the time he was 24. By then, his son, Parker, had already been born. Unfortunately, the birth of his son and the promotion to detective wasn't enough to save his marriage, and Holly and he filed for divorce soon after Parker's fifth birthday. It was around this time that Sawyer realized that he really was wasting his brains, and started attending college once more.
Four years later, Sawyer graduated second in his class at Stanford, quickly using his law degree to sue for full custody of his son instead of joint custody. He won by declaring his wife an unfit mother due to her smoking habits and frequent boyfriends, both of which he proved with purely circumstantial evidence. Combined with a heartbreaking statement from his ten year old son who missed his father enough to start crying, Sawyer won full custody and offered his ex-wife biannual visitation. But just winning his son wasn't enough. He needed to do more. After a few mishaps and another divorce, he left town and started a search. Armed with a new law degree and a heartless demeanor, Sawyer located his former chief, finding him at a station in an academy city. The man had offered his assistance, babysitting Parker and taking extra shifts, during the time that Sawyer was earning his law degree. He was one of the sole reasons why Sawyer had managed to get his degree in the first place.
But by the time Sawyer found him, he was about to retire. Before he left, however, he made his former employee promise to assist the next police chief like Sawyer would've helped him. Unable to say no, the lawyer agreed. Little did he know he'd be stuck with a dumb brat who had the position given to him.
