The summer days might have been hot and tedious, but by the time the sun went down, Remarque couldn’t think of any other time he'd been happier being powered up. It had been easier back when he hadn't had sleeves to deal with, but it was nice to feel thawed after all that damned snow.

He had more energy now, too; be it because he could have powered up past his Eternal form, or maybe because he'd eaten well or just because life was going perfectly. Or maybe it was just an illusion because he was distinctly aware of an Order energy signature only a slight bit away and he could use a good chat.

An eternal senshi was always good for conversation.

He knew the park well and while he didn't rush, he didn't want to give the senshi the opportunity to escape before they'd at least exchanged pleasantries. Weaving between the trees, it took less than a moment to fully cross the distance between them. Even from behind, it was clear that this was not a uniform he had ever seen before, and his interest immediately perked up at the prospect of meeting a senshi otherwise new to him.

…But the closer he got, the more something felt…off.

Maybe it was the hair. Or the boots. Or the tattoos.

Or something Namaka had mentioned that he hadn't the heart to take seriously.

But there was a coldness that flipped his stomach and sent a numbing tingle to every corner of his body, and he almost didn't even hear himself when he finally did manage to speak.

"…Chariklo?"

Chariklo liked the park. On a good night, it was empty enough to let her think without fear of interruption. Not the mention the spectacular view of the star filled sky. Holding her phone loosely, she was doing what she'd done every night since moving off of Orah's couch. Trying to work up the nerve to thumb that little button on her phone and go "home".

Every night, her thumb moved closer and closer to that button. And had it not been for an approaching dark mirror aura, she might have finally taken the chance tonight. Still, as things stood, it was a welcome distraction. And it was something she knew to be inevitable. She owed her former comrades explanations. She couldn't keep asking Amytis to field questions for her.

Even so, her stomach twinged unpleasantly when a familiar voice spoke out from behind her.

"Hey Remarque," she answered softly, slowly turning around, trying to smile. Fidgeting a little, an entirely un-Chariklo like occurance, she finally gave up on the smile and gave the other senshi a helpless shrug.

"Wanna just get this over with, then?" she asked, fully expecting a verbal (if not physical) brawl. Brawls she could do. Uncomfortable silences.... not so much.

His hand clenched and unclenched at his side; Remarque was not always so capable of hiding his emotions when they were particularly strong and, while it was in his nature to simply hit things when angry, he didn't make any attempt to assault the senshi in front of him.

"I had hoped the rumors had been misleading," he instead said a moment later. He had not yet drawn his conclusion about what emotions he should be feeling, or directing, at Chariklo. "What is this?" he demanded, desperate to know. "Who did this to you—and how?"

He began to move around Chariklo, observing this new her. Though his motions were predatory, his expression was not. He was inquisitive, and almost looked hurt. His brows were knit and his lips pursed as he tried to take in every tiny change she had undergone, but he did not attack her.

For now, he just wanted to understand her.

In spite of Remarque's clenched hands, Chariklo felt herself relax minutely. Now that the stunned silence was over, she was able to stop twitching. Though she flinched a little at the hurt look on his face.

"'Fraid they're true," she said easily enough. "Though at this point, I honestly have no idea how far they might've mutated. I did ask Amytis to tell you and Leto. And this... this is me. Or at least what I've always been inside, I guess."

She stood quietly as he examined her, knowing that this was a reaction that she was probably going to be getting for a while to come. Reached up a hand to brush her hair from her face, Chariklo frowned a little.

"The who and how is a little harder to explain. But I'll do my best. So. Who is a cat who's not a cat anymore named Zirconia. And I do not know how or why she stopped being a cat. She... she pulled out the, she called it a parasite, that was covering my starseed."

Frown deepening as she pulled up her shaky memories of that night, trying to recall every detail.

"She just laid her hand on my chest and there was warmth and suddenly, there's a flash of light and she had the parasite thing in her hand and I was like this."

She waved her hand slightly to point to herself. Privately, she knew that it was hardly an informative tale, But it was true and it really was all she could remember.

"A parasite?" Remarque asked, face twisting into a look of disgust. "Oh, please, like anyone should trust anything from that cat. She's full of propaganda and lies."

He'd met her only once, but it had been enough.

…But his curiosity was spiked, regardless. He felt it stirring within him; his pace quickened and he had to draw in a breath to calm himself. "…Whatever she pulled out, I'm certain it wasn't as awful as she made it out to be. I don't care about her." Well, he did—for the cat that wasn't a cat anymore, that could reach into chests and take out pieces of people's starseeds. She just wasn't the most important person here.

"What about you? Are you all right? You remember me," he began; she had called him by name. "…Who else do you remember? —What else do you remember?"

"Maybe so, but you didn't see the stuff she drew out wriggling about in her hands. It looked like living silver," Chariklo muttered. Absently smoothing out a fold in her skirt, she didn't believe for a moment that Remarque didn't care about Zirconia. He was just better at focusing on other things, she supposed.

Then, she blinked in surprise at the route this questioning was taking. She hadn't expected anyone to inquire about her own well-being.

"Me? I'm fine, Remarque. I told you, it didn't hurt, it just felt warm and peaceful," she said, confusion evident on her face. Why did he care about who or what she remembered? And then, she knew. THough she'd never seen a Negaverse corruption or a purification from the Negaverse, she'd heard stories about the terrible memory loss involved. But she hadn't lost her memory.

"I remember everything I did before," she said. Then, with a sigh, she added, "I'm still not sure why it upset Amytis so much when I asked her to find Avacyn though and get her somewhere safe."

She knew that Remarque and Leto knew Avacyn and probably even Quinn. They were allies to the Court. Why it had bothered Amytis was still as much of a mystery now as it had been when she'd brought it up.

"Maybe you or Leto can talk to Quinn and see if she'll keep an eye on Ava?" she asked hopefully. "It's bad enough that the Negaverse found out about Amytis. I don't want them to ever know about Avacyn."

Remarque's heart clenched in a way he didn't know it was possible when she mentioned Amytis and Avacyn. He kept his expression stony and nodded, planting his hands on his hips as he exhaled. "Yeah," he finally said, nodding.

"Yeah, we can keep an eye on her. I'll check in on her in a bit and see how she's doing. All of them."

…He'd have to.

While he did genuinely care about their feelings, he wanted to make sure that they weren't planning the same thing Chariklo had been.

"You just make sure you're taking care of yourself. Are they treating you all right? You've got friends over there who are going to look after you?"

…He had a few connections with Order, and Chariklo, side-swapped or not, didn't deserve to be thrown out on her a**. He was mad at her, sure, but emotions were stupid things. He was pissed that she'd left, but glad she was okay.

Hell, maybe she could do more for the Court now that she was with Order. He didn't know.

But he wasn't going to throw her away before he figured out what was going on with her now. And why she'd left.

…And what she was going to do from now on.
