The division meeting didn't help, the nice people visited stopped the thought for a short time. She smiled at every visitor and accepted their care, returned with more smiles and hugs, if they allowed her.
After talking to a weapon on twitter, Z's grievances finally became a rocket shot to the outer space. Thus, after the meeting, she applied for the weapon golem but didn't tell anyone. The first thing he did was of course pulling her face as wide as he could as the greeting, as he always wanted and then examined the small girly room with judging face. He went to the bed, pushing all Shu's arpakasso plushies that Melvin arranged neatly aside, rudely into a pile. She hissed, immediately went to rescue her plushies from the hands squishing its smiley face in all directions. "The hand feel is not bad, best for toturing", he commented with a toothy grin.
She threw herself onto the position next to him, half puffing. They had a Q & A session about his species followed by a prolonged relfection of what she had done stupid enough over the year, accompanied by body languages. By body languages, he meant pinching her face and hitting her head. After a while, he however stopped that, considering it might make her more stupid.
They got along quickly, like siblings like friends known for a very long time. It was precious time that she missed, even they were not related with blood. Shu wrapped Z into a light hug, softly sighed a thank you. "Where did the cheeky annoying brat I know go to?" He ruffled her hair until it became a bird nest. "Jack, I want boozes" hissed the man much taller than the girl. "You will get tummy-ache if you eat or drink." He turned to her side and bounced against her forehead with thumb and index finger, like the gesture you shot a marble in kid's games. She promptly covered it with both hands, whining about his offensive act. "Silly, I don't need you to remind me." The man tsk'ed, flattening a poor plushie at his back when he laid down. "You owe me an explanation." He said with a stern voice but his eyes were staring the low ceiling.
She didn't say anything but dragged a plushie to hold as an act of defense. "I-I don't know what you mean......" Her eyes focus on the top of the plushie. Z squinted his eyes and sighed, "Don't pretend, we're linked silly." He reminded her of the simple fact, "I know you've a jacking contradicting mindset -" said the man pulling the girl's ankle and made her fell into the bed, "Why did you hurt yourself?" It didn't leave any scars, but there was a severe wound.
Shu shook her head, answered with a dry and shaky voice when she sat straight: "I don't know. I dunno Z." As the partner who shared feelings most of the time, he didn't accept such an answer. "Thirty marks, try again."
"I really don't know. I tried to think of what happened but I can't. I was shocked when Leslie told me!" Shu raised her voice. "Passing mark, fifty." She hit the bed with both hands, "I didn't lie. I already told you the truth. I stabbed myself, bled badly but I don't know why. It would be just a minor one if our bond wasn't cut Z!" He picked up the ears of a cat plushie, one black one white, "Congratulations, you score seventy this time, happy?" The man feigned a cheerful tone and clapped but his smirk was satirizing.
"Z!" what do you want? "You often only say half, but not full of it. Until someone forces you to the corner. You think I didn't notice?" She couldn't say anything to rebut, he was right. "When you say - 'I'm fine. I'm alright' and beamed, I can feel the pang of ache that leaked to me." It was weird or even cringing to hear a man faking a cute girl voice but Shu can't even laugh at that. She was startled, scared and felt the magic of their bonding.
Shu wanted to say something but the nerves of her brain was like millions of threads entangled, no one idea was clear. "Do you think you can hide from your omnipotent Zai Tai sama? Don't dare to hide from me." He looked into her eyes, she gulped in inquietude but choked, dry coughing. "I'll get you a drink", he stood up, grabbed some small change before he went out the room. "Think about what to tell me when I'm back." Z left the words before he closed the door, Shu sat at the same position, head down, hairs covered her face.

The man with colorful hair stood at the vending machine, glared at the curious passer-by while waiting for the machine to give him the change. He was only wearing a black hoodie vest and some pants. There were several hair pins on his blue hair and when he turned his head, the long tassel of his lantern earrings slapped. He disliked the snickers from behind but he grinned charmingly (he thought) at the human ladies. He'd regretted slightly for the time wasted later. Kicking the machine for a fifth time, he finally got the coke and change. "Jacking stupid machine," he barked.
At that moment, he still had no idea what he was gonna to see when he opened the door to her room. "Hey silly, I'm back-" he opened the door and about to throw her the coke he shook vigorously in advance, it dropped onto the floor together with the coins. "What the hell -" he barked, sweeping a runic dagger off her grasp. The runic blue glow flickered due to the violence. "s**t." He pressed his hands against Shu's wrist with the bed sheet he jerked, knocking off several plushies to another side of the room. "Damn it." He was really angry and he yelped at her, his hand not pressing the wrist firmly raised up, wanted to slap the girl out of her mind. The hand jolted in mid-air, paused before he sighed and dropped it.
"Why are you hurting yourself again? You jacking stupid girl." He gritted his teeth with his words. "I just asked you to tell me the truth, wholly." The red immersing the bed sheet spread, dyeing a unknown continent on it.
Shu was shaking, words slurred with the vibration of her jaws. Z's yell seemed to bring her consciousness back but the focus of her eyes flickered. "I-I don't know......" The Nian's frown deepened, took a deep breathe but she flinched. "You're such a big trouble" he hissed, relieved for the slow down of the red spread out on the pale fabric. "Z.....Z...." called gingerly by Shu, tugging the fabric with the hand that was holding a dagger. "What!" he slapped back, the wrath didn't calm. "Are you mad with me?" The creases between the brow developed into a great depth with the worried face. "DON'T DO IT IF YOU'RE SCARED I'LL GET ANGRY!" The Nian shouted, couldn't control his raising ire. "I.....I.....I'm sorry." A tear freely slid down the pale colored face, she knew if she died he might die too but she still did it.
He let the shield to close the wound and stop the bleeding. His brows furrowed tighter together when he saw the traces of the cut. "Damn it! Damn it!" He spat the repeated words again and again, pulling the wrist to her face. "SO what the jack you were thinking!" It wasn't a one-time attempt, but many many. It didn't precisely repeated, thus bifurcated. "IamsorryIamsorryIamsorrysorrysorrysorry......." she dodged the wound pressing close, shaking her head.
He knew scolding won't help, from the year he spent with her, so he softened his voice and scooped her face up with his hands, fixing it so her eyes would, no alternatives but looked at his. It was until he confirmed her eyes reflected a clear image of him he parted his lips:
"Shu." It was the first time he said her name, it weighed meaningfully. "Tell me, do you trust me? Tell me."
She nodded, "......I trust you. I trust you Z but - but -" He interrupted, "That's all I need to know, I don't care what your past was. You're my hunter, I just know you shouldn't hide anything from me." His words hammered her heart, it throbbed rapidly in echo. "Tell me Shu, naked and everything", he encouraged, "I asked, so you've to tell me." He asked, she could no longer use "no one asks" as the excuse, her breath threw off.
Another tear disappeared into the hair being scooped up as well, "It hurts. My heart aches sharply. I feel lonely, I feel sad - but I dunno how to stop the pain." Tears dropped like rain droplets hanging on the edge of the roof, wetting her face and his hands. She gulped, "I can't breathe properly, I want to stop it, my heart hurts." Shu sobbed like a child, when she blinked, more tears rushed to escape her eyes. She was like something wholly made of water. "I-I saw the dagger put aside......and thought it might help if there's another pain so I......cut my wrist....It worked for the first few seconds but then the loneliness devoured me again so....so I cut it again, again and again." Her expression became something crazy, helpless and despair. Shu put the edge of the sharp dagger on her wrist, sawing like the bow of violin. It played a soundless sad melody.
"You jacking silly!" He huffed, pulling her head into his chest. He knew her mindset contradicted, he knew she didn't look as cheerful as she looked, but he never think she would hurt herself. "It's scary. That feeling - it's like a black hole wants to swallow me, lock me inside," she explained, shaky hands grabbed his vest firmly, "I ran, I struggled, I did all I can do to fight against it. But Z, you know what - it's so powerful and huge. Each step I make, it gets closer, I can't escape from it." He didn't say anything but kept with the position. "I didn't mean to put you in danger, I really didn't mean to." The fingers curled around the fabric, hooking it within their grasp like she would drown if she release. "That's why I told you to grab a boyfriend or bang someone. I know you're a jacking needy ghoul. If you can, you just want to cling to someone like a stupid koala!" She barked a weak laugh in response to that. I don't deserve anyone. It was the message not delivered to the man.
"Tch." He amateurishly ruffled at the back of her hair. "Your best friend, Noe-mi jack is that her name." Shu shook her head, "I haven't seen her for a long time.....she didn't show up in infirmary as well......must be in another base then." She piled up a smile, but many liquids flew down the curves of her face. "Ah...? That's strange......I should be smiling...Z, I'm smiling, right?" She left his chest and looked up, a smeared face with the traces of tears all over, accompanied with an ugly smile. "Ugly, you look so miserable right now." He shoved her into his chest again. "Sleep. You can't return this jacking golem thing with that messy bird nest hair and stupid red rabbit eyes. I'll be here for you, come with interest. You're gonna owe me a lot, silly."
Shu wrapped her arms around the Nian, finding a good position and closed her tired eyes, hopefully they won't be swollen or she might find it hard to explain. The petite girl curled near him, like a cat holding itself a giant plushie. Feeling her breath stabilized finally, Z sighed, "What should I do with you, you jacking little trouble?" He gently brushed away the hair on her face, pulling up the blanket covering Shu.
She wanted to hide from him, the unimportant (she thought) emotions and feelings. She was aching for care and body contact, but she also restricted herself from getting too close to someone. She seldom selfishly request something big for her own, even she wanted their attention on her. She was like a feline having many selfish wishes but never say it, she just stared at people. I feel sad, I want you pay more attention on me - simple words like that, she never say. Instead, she loved to say I'm fine, don't worry (Please hold me), I'm okay (I'm not), I feel good (I feel bad). She wasn't lying, because she thought she was really fine even she was not.
If she was lying, then the first one she lied was herself. She convinced herself to believe she was alright, a habit developed from her childhood. Besides her curiosity, maybe that was another reason why she was in Death Division. She was great in disguising.
The Nian grabbed her phone and checked the twitter, snorted with the conversations. There was only some times left before Shu needed to return the golem or she would be in trouble. Yet, she fell asleep and he had no intentions to wake her up.

All you have ever loved seems to be taken from you, until your house is left an empty, cold thing, and your soul has been turned into a ruin.
