After the infection had broke out and run its course, long after Abbi felt that awful rage in her chest subside, she felt a lack of control. For a week and more she hadn't been able to talk, robbed of speech by the events that had unfolded, but not unwell enough to be tended to in the Infirmary. And even after that she worried and fretted for any spark of anger made her fear she would lose that reign over her senses like she had when everything had gone red.
In an attempt to regain that restraint over herself, Abbi decided a good sparring session was in order. Even if she just wailed on a dummy it would be better than nothing!
And because she had only recently had her voice fully returned to her, she was using it in its full capacity.
"AS YOU WISH!!! Can you believe that? He just rolls down the hill without a fight, but its her Westley all along!" Yes, Abbi was giving a play-by-play of The Princess Bride to Viveca, who didn't have to hear it, but was enjoying her headmate kind of act it all out while the teen set up a row of dummies she would be practicing against.

Phone clutched nervously in one shaking hand, Maebe slunk into the training fields, looking for something to take her mind off of the past day's events. It helped that she also itched to be stronger, in case she even had a chance in hell of surviving a fight with it. When she saw Abbi, talking to herself, she realized the sight of the girl made her want to cry. Abbi's innocent face reminded her of a better time. It wasn't even a month ago, and yet the past felt like an entirely different world. "Abbi." Maebe's voice cracked, and she cleared it quickly. The girl didn't need to know just how broken down Maebe was right now. She was just looking for a fight, a distraction, anything. Something to occupy her mind other than it's still here.

By now she should be used to being happened upon while talking to herself, but Abbi was still surprised, and a bit startled, when she heard someone say her name. When she whirled around she jumped because, quite honestly, when Abbi saw Maebe she thought for half a second she was a ghost.
The other girl didn't look herself at all, so much was missing and she looked scared and all over wrong.
Normally Abbi would hesitate at such a juncture, considering she'd only met Maebe once before and conversed lightly with her a handful of times on Twitter. Abbi didn't make a habit of being bold in her actions with people she didn't know, but this was different. For once she knew what was making the other girl look so haggard, and even if she was wrong she at least was sure it was a large percentage of her problems. While Abbi hadn't been as banged up as others during the Infection, she knew she had gotten lucky (as lucky as someone who had been strangled and broken their nose could be) and guessed that Maebe hadn't received the same treatment.
So the dummy Abbi had been swinging around was pushed back without a word and she strode toward Maebe, tilting herself a little to one side, a way to look open but also meek so she wouldn't be seen as a threat.
"Hey Maebe." She greeted with a light smile, crossing the distance quickly. A hand started to clear the distance, but stopped before she could touch the girl. "Seems I keep meeting you here. Maybe we're like star crossed spar buddies."

Maebe's laugh was weak, but still genuine. "I wouldn't mind being a star crossed anything with you, sweetheart." Maebe promised her, a little of that old life flickering in her eyes. "You're a sight for sore but appreciative eyes." She saw the hand coming for her, and wondered if Abbi meant to shake her hand. It felt.. odd. She hadn't shaken anyone's hand in a while - she'd gotten used to being too familiar with people. Too touchy. Too close. She reached out instead, to brush her fingers down Abbi's cheek. "Want to play? I'll be better than a dummy. I promise."

A laugh, however small, was good.
The reply strengthened Abbi's own smile and she bounced on her toes a little, happy to be of some help.
"I hide a lot. Mostly in the Infirm, only not recently." She sputtered a laugh and hurried the subject on so as not to talk about why she had been absent from her duties. "Its good to see you though!"
Already she was floundering, but thankfully Maebe cast the girl a lifeline of sorts. Though Abbi really, really didn't want to wail on an already beat up acquaintance, she'd already promised herself to try and help in some way. So if this was it... Then she'd do it.
After Abbi shivered from the touch, she was so unused to people touching her it felt odd, she shrugged with another laugh.
"You're much prettier than a dummy, so of course I'll say yes."

"I should hope so. Those dummys aren't known for their good looks." Maebe summoned Thaw into her hands, letting the weapon form slowly as she backed away, and then she tilted it in Abbi's direction. "Thaw wanted me to tell you he's pleased to see you. I think he enjoys your company. Should I be jealous?"

The more she got Maebe to talk the more Abbi thought maybe she was gonna do this right, the more she thought she might really be able to help.
"Well like, most of Deus isn't as pretty as you so yanno... Easy win." Her own weapon was summoned with a lot of twirling of the pole-arm, pausing her bit of a show to 'ooh' and 'ahh' over the trident.
Imagine her surprise to find a weapon liked her!
"O-oh! Wow, thanks! I don't think anybody's weapon... Has ever said anything like that?" Or at least if they had she hadn't been informed of it. "What, no! He's in your head, so I'm sure he loves you most but... Wow!" Abbi was easy to flatter.
The little tap made her giggle and she gingerly returned the tap, then another, and another. She really, really didn't want to hurt Maebe...
"Uh Vivi says that she thinks you're pretty too but she's being kinda tsun about it." Like most things Viveca did.

"Yeah, he does." She admitted with a wink, cringing with overexaggeration every time Abbi bopped her. "And thank you, Vivi. That means a lot to me. I hope your opinion of me doesn't change as I continue to fight with your bonded." She smiled sweetly, and then exhaled as she struck out at Abbi, digging her trident right into the girl's gut. About to make some laughing joke about how Viveca has a poor opinion of everyone, Abbi didn't get the chance and instead found the trident poking quite harshly into her stomach. OK, so Maebe looked haggard but wasn't necessarily feeling the same strength-wise. A little cough left her, but that was ok, she could work with this.
With a quick hand Abbi flipped the scythe so the back end of the crook swung out and toward Maebe, the blade pointed up enough so that when the crook made contact the teen could shift the pole and drag the blade against Maebe's back. It wouldn't hurt too badly with the shields, but it would be tit for tat, as far as gut stabbing went.
"Kinda forgot you're really good at fighting..." She mused with a lopsided grin. "I bet a lot of people say that, huh?"

Not being able to see what a weapon was doing to you when someone attacked always made it hurt even more, and this was no exception. Maebe arced her body forward when the scythe made contact, and it managed to stumble her practically into Abbi in response. She laughed after the pain ebbed, and put both of her hands on Abbi's shoulders. "Yes, but they should be much more fearful of you. You're a beautiful little angel with the punch of a devil." She bit her tongue mischievously between her teeth, and hopped away to get back into defensive stance. "Imagine the wreckage we would create together." Quote: HP: 32 Damage: lolno Charge: 2/3

An undignified sound left Abbi when Maebe crashed into her, and she scrambled to keep the young woman upright, all the while feeling terrible guilty. It was often difficult for Abbi to hold herself back when her weapon was all too happy to feed such wonderful attacks into her mind.
"Sorry! Sorry sorry--" One hand left her scythe to help steady Maebe, and she went still when hands found her shoulders.
"Well, I mean-- I might not say beautiful-- But a punch, really?" Her words were a mixture of awe and disbelief, but Abbi was grinning the whole time.
Maebe hopped back and Abbi rushed her, swinging around one side to tap her legs with the end of her pole-arm.
"Oh man, we'd be the best team! You've got the sultry side of things, I'm cute, and then WABAM. We'd beat 'em all!" She laughed and skipped back, putting some distance between them.
"But I bet you say that to all your sparring partners."

"Trust me, Abbi." She chuckled out, whipping forward even as the girl tried to put distance between them. "I have never had a sparring partner as cute as you." She used the side of her trident against Abbi's leg, in tribute to her last attack, but she remained close enough to lean in and boop the girl's nose with one finger. Though Abbi did try her best to keep the space between them large enough to make a getaway, she let herself slow when Maebe told her she was cute. Abbi was a sucker for being complimented.
She squeaked when her nose was booped and rubbed it with a grin, quick to take up her scythe and use the blunt side of the blade to push Maebe back to an acceptable separation of their persons.
"So whatcha been up to since our last fight?" It seemed like Maebe was distracted enough with fighting that she could handle the question. And if she couldn't, she had a good way to ignore it! Good job Abbi, A+ you did the conversation thing perfectly.
