Her strange eyes took in everything, from the tiny specks of pollen and dust that danced in the streams of sunlight pouring in between the leaves to the tiny drops of dew still clinging for life on the leaves even as the sun evaporated them. It had rained hard for the better part of the day and night and finally the storm had broken and the sun had shown its face again. The forest was coming to life once more, all of the small critters leaving their homes once more in search of food and amusement. Ember shook off the last clinging bits of moisture as she walked on her way, head swiveling here and there to take in a new sight, guided by the sounds around her. The day was still in its earlier hours, not yet noon, but it was shaping up to be a lovely day. The mare had her wings stretched out wide to air them and soon she would be able to take wing and fly about in search of adventure She'd been in a bit of a depression of late and she was just starting to feel a little more normal, despite the guilt and pain that still clung to her like drops of dew in the morning.
She was looking forward to a good fly. The days of the summer had been so warm lately that she had used flight as a means to cool herself, but the storm that had run through had also lowered the temperature to a comfortable degree and now she could fly for the sake of pure joy. She was thankful for that. The hot weather had made herself and just about everyone around her just slightly cranky, as well as sticky, and she was looking forward to a day of much easier relaxation.
She still felt the guilt. The burning ember around her neck never let her forget her sacred duty, her penance for her carelessness. Her smile lessened as she thought about that fateful day, and of her mother. How much time had passed and yet it felt fresh in her mind, burning into her conscience with the same flames that had stolen her mother from her. She shook her head and sighed deeply, her heart feeling heavy still. She needed a distraction, something to give her a little more hope for tomorrow. She felt like she was living in the past and she knew on some level that she needed to move on. Could she do that and still fulfill her promise? She needed to heal others, and help them recover from the fires that often ravaged the plains. Could she do that and still move on with her life? Or did she have to choose one path or the other?
She bowed her head in thought, oblivious to the sights around her that she had previously been enraptured with. Distracted, she blundered into a large root that rose from the ground and found herself tumbling to the dirt in a most undignified fashion. She paused there, stunned.

There was just something so utterly calming about a summer storm that soothed frayed nerves. With the first flash of lightning that lit up the sky the stallion had been anxiously awaiting the rain that was promised by the foreboding clouds that the lightning had arced from. The storm did not disappoint. For more than an hour rain had lashed the earth and the accompanying winds had made the atmosphere a lot more hospitable for those that had been suffering from the summer heat. Inhaling deeply the scents one would associate with the rain-cleansed air Phoenyx once again pressed onward. Cautiously he flexed his two sets of wings and gave himself a decent shake making absolutely sure that his wings snapped outwards. He shed water like he had once seen one of the natives shedding a cloak. They intrigued him to an extent but Phoenyx had been raised with a mother that had harbored a deep mistrust of the locals.
Part of that mistrust had unfortunately lingered on in the son. It did not help that soon after Phoenyx's brother and father disappeared. His mother could not and did not stick around for much longer either. Essentially Phoenyx had been left to fend for himself. The urges that he often experienced disturbed him greatly. He continuously felt the extreme pull to consume the flesh of other creatures. It had been something he fought with since birth. The stallion was an extreme mix of both his parents it seemed though. He inherited his Kalona traits from his mother and other, saner traits from his father.
Phoenyx broke himself out of his mental musings just in time to sense a disturbance nearby. The stallion's ears pricked forward in the direction that the sound had come from and with a slow practiced movement he brought both sets of wings down against his back and pushed through the foliage that hid him from whatever had caused the noises. Often clumsy himself the stallion was careful not to snag his hooves on the roots that he knew to protrude from the ground. He wanted to see for himself just what it was that had befallen the fate of those whom were unwary of the unseen dangers. He was expecting perhaps a small animal if anything would neat a helping hoof. When he cleared the shrubbery though it was not a small animal that Phoenyx found in an interesting predicament. At first it was almost comical how he just stood there with his eyes boring into the one that had been felled. Knowing that he had to speak or look even more the fool Phoenyx gave a soft chuckle before letting the small breeze that still blew carry his voice to this stranger. "Well, this is unusual. Most mares do not seem to throw themselves at my feet."
The stallion winced before sighing, "would you need assistance in getting off the ground madam?"Fatal Irony I do apologize for the length of time it took to get a reply done for you. I am still interested in RPing Phoenyx and Ember together. Just be aware that my muses do not always cooperate.
