It was a warm summers day, with fluffy clouds that hung lazily in the air, too hot to move. Despite the heat and the bustle of newcomers, an older Stallion had set up a little game for the colts and fillies of the park - A scavenger hunt. The prize was a mystery, but everyone was certain it would be good and heck, even if it was chocolate, well that was chocolate they didn't have, right? Normally, Tough Talker wasn't one for competitions. He didn't care too much to show off or to have the first pick or run at things. Boredom was the motivation for opening and accepting the challenge that his direct siblings had decidedly ignored. Oh well, their loss wasn't it?

All the fillies and colts were gathered in a shaded area of the forest, where a larger map was laid out. Tough took out the one he had been sent and spread it across the ground with his hooves. All around there were little markers, each with a number. To the right side, the numbers had things, like seashells or seeds. Using his magic, he rolled it up and set it into his satchel. Getting all of this done by himself was going to be impossible.

Most of the others had paired off and while tough thought it might be wise to go his own way, he knew better. Together was smarter! Scanning the group left the phony feeling oddly empty... Alone. He stepped from hoof to hoof awkwardly, wondering if he really ought to have left by himself. Then he spotted her.

He only knew of Lightening Strike thanks to Chocolate Orchid who had introduced his half-brother to his children. It was a little weird, Tough had thought, that these young phonies were his nieces and nephews. Knowing someone, even briefly, felt leagues better than asking a stranger. Trotting over to Lightening, he smiled politely.

"Hello my Niece. Do you want to work together? We have many things to find, after all."

Lightning Strike so enjoyed puzzles and games, it was always a fun way to spend time and she liked testing the limits of what she knew. So the scavenger hunt on the park day was something she was more than happy to sign up for, caring less about the prize and more about the puzzle that went into it. Her siblings hadn't quite agreed so she had gone into it alone, but there was something about excitement of the event that made it seem inconsequential, even if she want a partner.

The map she had herself was starting to look daunting though, with everything to find on it herself and she quietly wished that she had gotten one of her brothers to come along. So focused Light was on trying to figure out how to start tackling this did she completely ignore some family was around already, jolted out of her thoughts by the call.

It was one of her uncles she realized, Tough Talker. Orchid had introduced her to the large amount of family she had and while she was happy to meet them, it felt kind of weird that some of her family was close to her age yet still technically older. She bristled slightly at the call of niece, but let it go. He didn't mean harm and anyways, he was offering to be her partner.

"Sure, Uncle. Two heads are better than one. Do you know where to start?" She gave a stiff sort of smile, unsure if that was right. She had always been on the more serious side to be honest.

"I think if we headed to the lake and found some seashells, or the beach and got shells, that would be best." He nodded solemnly, not at all missing the tightness of his niece's smile. Was it aggravating having someone younger than you be higher in genealogy? Perhaps it was, but Tough found it nonsense to begin with. Still, he tucked it into the back of his mind as something that could be used to tease her.

"Let's get going, shall we?"
