Rider
Name: Nawa
Age: 34
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Wingrider
History:
Nawa was raised in a Hold (Ursul), the youngest in a line of four children, and the only girl. Her mother, a midwife, was overjoyed to finally have a girl, and put a great deal of effort into raising her to be a proper young lady: demure, composed, and well-kept. Her family isn't wealthy by any means, but it was impressed upon her from an early age that while her dresses might not be the nicest, she could at the very least take good care of them and look presentable. The result has been a rather fastidious, appearance-conscious young woman. Her father is a Woodcrafter who specializes in carving. Though he tried to tempt her into taking up the same craft, she was Searched and went to Trine. After a few turns at the Weyr, she Impressed black Rioth in the second clutch she stood for.
They could not have been better-suited to each other, and the future looked promising for the pair, but not long into their Weyrlinghood came the Revolution. While some from their class involved themselves in the fighting, Nawa and Rioth did no such thing; there are very clear restrictions on Weyrlings fighting (war or no, rules are rules!), and even if there weren't, neither was at all suited to violence. Ladies have no business fighting, in Nawa's opinion, and she is very much a lady, and Rioth is averse even to using harsh words, so physical violence? That was right out. They did what they could to help in other ways, performing support tasks that kept them clear of battle. Fortunately, Trine was saved by the efforts of those who did fight, and the pair finished out their Weyrlinghood and went into a wing.
They continued to avoid fighting anything but Thread, keeping their heads down and weathering the Wherwars as quietly as possible, a choice that didn't win them many friends. Once they had ended, the pair hoped to finally have a normal life, and for a couple of turns, it seemed they would...then the golds fell, the old system was torn down, and the rules changed. Though equality as a concept wasn't a bad thing in and of itself, the mere fact that the rules changed threw Nawa for a loop. How could you just throw away tradition like that? You aren't supposed to do things like that! She was wary at first, skeptical that such dramatic changes could work, worried that the new system might collapse on itself, but two turns later, no such thing has happened. The situation seems to be holding fairly steady, and though it's too soon to tell if it will stand the test of time, she has begun to accept that it might, and that she might find a place in it.
Description:
5'5," with an average femine figure - not too slender, not too curvy. She's passingly pretty, but not beautiful, with long auburn hair that she focuses on as her best feature, and accordingly takes good care of. Her eyes are hazel.
Personality:
The word that best describes Nawa is polite. If she doesn't have something nice to say, she doesn't say it! (Well, most of the time.) Not that she doesn't necessarily think mean or inappropriate things, she just has a very good hold on her tongue. She treats everyone with habitual courtesy, no matter who they are, although she does become more formal about it when speaking to someone of authority - not that she's ever actually informal. Casual isn't something Nawa knows how to be, so in that respect, she can be a very distant individual; she doesn't know how to relax, which isn't conducive to getting to really know people and making friends. She doesn't realize that she's getting in her own way, however, and is continually dismayed by her lack of close friends, and a little jealous of those who have them. She's very taken with the idea of having a best friend, and would probably be clingy if she ever found one.
Nawa is also a bit of a goody two-shoes, horrified by rudeness and rule-breaking. People are supposed to be polite, to behave a certain way, and to follow the rules. While she won't run and tattle on someone unless it's something serious, if you were to ask her who'd done something and she knew, she'd tell you. If someone is rude or mean, she becomes very flustered, because it's much harder to be polite when someone else isn't! It's in such situations where she can lose her own cool and respond in kind. If another candidate were to display more minor bad manners (say, chewing with their mouth open), she'll try to gently correct them. It's not their fault they don't know better, but they really ought to be enlightened.
She absolutely hates to be dirty, and any tasks that involve the possiblity are her least favorite. When doign candidate chores, she much prefered kitchen work, cleaning (but not latrines, ew), and generally the more housework-like chores. She'd do any, of course, since she didsn't exactly have a choice, but that didn't mean she enjoyed it. If someone were to get her dirty, purposely or accidentally, she'd get quite upset with them, and give them a bit of a telling-off. She's adapted fairly well to Weyr life, however, except for the ever-infamous looseness of Weyr inhabitants. Even after all this time, that's still a bit bothersome to her, and she tries to avoid or ignore it as much as possible. Though she disapproves, she usually keeps it to herself.
Other: In her spare time, Nawa craves small figurines out of bits of wood as a hobby, one that helps her relax and think. While not a Mastercrafter by any means, she is fairly good at it.
Dragon
Name: Rioth
Age: 15
Colour: Black
Description: x
Average/Average
Personality:
Rioth is a tactful beast - quite frankly, even when put in positions where a harsh word or two might be appropriate this black always finds a way to get his point across without saying something cruel in the process, others are far less apt to learn from their mistakes if they are wounded by a reprimand than if they are told in a less confrontational manner - or so Rioth is fond of pointing out. While this black is certainly capable of action when the need arises he's not apt to jump right in without a plan first. Rioth, while driven, is a creature who prefers focused and controlled motion rather then chaotic spurts, and so he likes to think about what he's going to do a few good steps before actually doing it. Perhaps because of this, Rioth is an incredibly graceful and poised creature - while dragons as a whole often seem to be clumsy on the ground, Rioth manages to make this clumsiness look almost good, an impression that is almost certainly helped by his good temper.
Good balance in everything, however, is key to Rioth, and so while he is polite and graceful he is also a playful creature - it's just as important to let go and have a bit of fun once in a while as it is to do a good job, and this black will certainly keep His on their toes with tiny pranks and all-in-good-fun jokes - even if they are just a little bit lame. While an active creature when he needs to be, Rioth is also a fan of 'downtime,' and it's likely that when he doesn't feel like playing this black will spend a good deal of time lazing about in the sunshine - rest is important too! Have fun trying to get him to get up and go if he doesn't absolutely have to and he's decided it's nap time!
Other:
Well it's really hard to imagine Rioth with someone who would be crude and rude to those around them and so Nawa was pretty much a given for this black - in fact, His' ability to hold her tongue and gently correct those around her makes this black ecstatic - even if sometimes her adherence to the rules can border a bit on the obsessive. Rioth is certain that given enough time, however, he can get her to relax a little bit and learn to have some good clean fun once in a while - it's even okay to get dirty now and again, Nawa...Rioth promises that it will be okay, that's what baths are for.
Rioth will be there as a guiding light when His' temper gets the better of her once in a while ...and perhaps Nawa can teach this black that it's alright to loosen his own tongue when someone really deserves it, too, else you're likely to be ignored. With Rioth at her side, Nawa won't need to worry about having a best friend: she'll have Rioth! The graceful black will certainly do what he can to help Nawa see past her own hardships and make a good human friend if she really wants to, however, and since he's a black, well...he's happy to point out she won't have to worry about any of those icky loose Weyr habits either - which suits him just fine, because flirting just doesn't really appeal to Rioth. At all. Love is just too messy and emotional for this tactful dragon to embrace easily.
