IC
Eleina was having a rough week. Not only was she struggling with her faith when the rest of the city was gearing up for the coming festivals for the gods, but she couldn't even find a teacher! None of the people she approached wanted to take in a hybrid from a scandalous union and one who they considered too 'uppity.'
But one day she hears of a shaman who lives outside the city, one with no apprentices and apparently a temper. But he was a water fire hybrid himself; perhaps he would be willing to teach her?
Quest Tasks ||. Quest will start with her considering her being rejected by an oban shaman in the city. She needs to consider her options and contemplate the rejections and their reasons. ||. After hearing about a hybrid shaman, she needs to approach the hybrid shaman and convince him somehow to accept her as a student. ||. He will not want to take on an apprentice: she need to prove to him she can use magic, that this is the path she wants to walk and that she is willing to listen and learn from him. ||. The quest should end with him accepting her as a student.

Rejection "Well I don't need you anyways, there are plenty of other people that can teach me and they are all way more skilled then you!" she screamed at the closed door before turning on her heels and heading home, a scowl plastered across her face.
It had happened again. If she was being honest with herself she wasn't even sure why she even tried. She already had her things packed up, determined to go search in Matori for someone to teach her. She was so ready to leave when the fight with Baako had her going around asking again. Because of that fight she was determined to stay in Oba and learn where she could shove it in her cousins face. However after two weeks of being rejected she really wasn't in the mood to stay any longer. It was starting to look like no one in Oba would teach her.
Most of them were at least polite enough to make up fake reasons why they couldn't teach her. They already had a student. They didn't have the time. They weren't looking to mentor anyone. But then there were just as many who told her straight up they wouldn't teach her because of her mixed blood. She wasn't sure who she respected more. The ones that were up front about their reasoning, or the ones that at least tried to sugar coat it.
The closer that she got to home the sadder she got. Her parents had seen her bags packed, and although they supported their daughter and wanted what was best for her neither of them wanted her to go. Still her father had contacted his family in Matori and arranged for places for her to stay with family. She smiled at the thought. At least she would get to see more of her family, she rarely ever got to see her father's family. From what she remembered they were much nicer then her mother's family.
As soon as her house was in sight she spotted her mother outside, clearly waiting for someone. Eleina looked around, wondering who it could but, until she noticed that her mother was waving her arms in her direction. Confused she picked up her pace until she was in front of her mother.
"Oh finally you are here, I thought you'd never get home." her mother said in an excited tone. "You'll never guess what I found today."
Eleina smiled. Even though her mother's meddling had earned her the burn on her hand she loved her mother dearly. The women always wanted what was best for her, she just didn't always know how to go about it.
"What did you find mother?"
"A shaman! A hybrid shaman! He doesn't live close, but it is in Oba. From the looks of the map you could make it by tomorrow." her mother threw her arms around Eleina in glee and Eleina returned the hug, half in shock.
Was this really happening? Was she finally going to find someone to teach her?
"Thank you mother! Thank you so much. Please give me the map, I must be off."
"I knew you'd be eager to leave once you heard. There is lunch in a bag on the table and your packed stuff is inside by the door, the map to his house on top."
Eleina squeezed her mother tightly before rushing into the house and getting all of her stuff. There was no time to waste.
----
No sooner was she walking out of her house when she saw Baako heading there with a box in her hand. She sneered at her cousin. "Ah, have you given up little cousin? Packed your bags and now you are headed to Matori where no one is going to take you either?"
"Not that I have to tell you, but I'm not going to Matori anymore. My mother found me a teacher in the outskirts of town and I'm going to meet up with him now." okay so it was partially a lie, but mostly the truth.
"Dejen? You are going to see Dejen?" Baako laughed. "Good luck with that crazy old man. I doubt there is anything he can teach you."
Eleina frowned and turned in the direction that the map told her to go. The conversation was over, and she wasn't sure why she started it in the first place.

Stubbornness Her mother had been wrong about this distance, she was already well into her second day. She was starting to worry that her mother had been tricked and this map really lead to nowhere. She wouldn't put it behind her cousin to do something so horrible, and it would explain why she ran into Baako when she was leaving. She was eating some of the dried meat that her mother had packed when she spotted a house. It was rather normal looking, other then the fact that it was all alone. From the looks of it there was enough room for her to move in with the shaman if he would take her. It would be easier that way, instead of walking back and forth for lessons. Filled with optimism Eleina hurriedly ate the fruit and made it to the door.
Eleina straightened her clothing to the best of her ability and took a deep breath. She could do this. Knocking on the door she waited with a smile, eager for his first impression of her to be a good one.
"Go away. I don't want to buy anything and I have no food to share." came an old and grumpy voice from inside of the house.
Eleina frowned, this wasn't the kind of first impression she had in mind. "I'm not selling anything, and I have enough food for myself. That's not the reason I've come. I came because I want to be a shaman, and I heard that you didn't have a student. So I was wondering—."
Laughter came from the house, evil maniacal laughter. It lasted a while, and Eleina could only stand there awkwardly and wait for it to be over. "Ah, thanks for the laugh. Haven't had one that good in a while. Now. Go away."
Although the laughter defiantly made her reconsider the whole ordeal she had to be strong. Maybe this was some kind of test? Or maybe he was crazy like her cousin said. Either way she had to try. "I'm not going anywhere. I have searched all over Oba for someone to teach me how to become a shaman. Everyone has turned me down due to my mixed blood. However you don't have that excuse, I know you are mixed like me. So be my teacher."
"Little girl are you deaf? I said to go away. I don't care about if you are pure or not. I'm not looking to teach some talent less cry baby."
"Well I refuse to leave until you come out here and at least give me a chance. Let me show you what I can do."
She heard a chuckle from inside and then silence. She waited a few minutes and was worried that he had gone to sleep before she heard the man's voice once again. "Fine stay out there. But I have enough supplies to last me a few days, and I don't plan on opening the door until then and for that reason only."
Eleina frowned. This was too much. had she really came all the out there for nothing? For this? She walked over to his hut, putting her back against the front wall and sitting. She wasn't giving up. She had a few days provisions, and until they ran out she wasn't going anywhere.
"Well I'll wait right out here until then." it wasn't like she hadn't waited a long time already.

Water It had been four days, and if Eleina was being honest with herself she couldn't last much longer. She had ate her last piece of food that morning, and she was pretty sure the sun would be setting soon. If she left she wouldn't have food for the trip back, but at least she would get some before she starved to death.
The first three days she tried to talk to Dejen when she heard him walking around his hut. She tried to get him to talk back, but he never said a word. She hadn't tried today though, mostly because it hurt her throat to talk. She had run out of water and was extremely thirsty. She laid in the shade of one of the trees in front of his house, eagerly awaiting the sunset so it would cool down. She had dug a pretty big hole in sand, partially because she was hoping to somehow find water and partially because it helped her pass the time. Her father once told her that if she dug deep enough she would always find water. She was sure this hole didn't count as deep enough but she couldn't stop. As the sun was setting she had an idea. If there was water down there then in theory she could call it up. She wasn't sure if she was that strong, of if that was even possible, but she was thirsty so she had to try.
'Please let this work...' She thought to herself before closing her eyes and pressing her hands to the sand and started chanting a chant that her mother had taught her. For a few seconds nothing happened, and Eleina was about to pack up when her hands felt something cold. Opening her eyes she was both relieved and disappointed to find that the sand around her hands was wet. She was happy that it worked, but that water wasn't drinkable.
It was time for her to call it quits and head home. There was no use in her dying out here. She would need to rest first though, even though she was unsuccessful bringing the water upward had taken a good toll on her strength. With a sigh she looked back to where she had left her stuff leaning on her hut, and was met with a surprise. Dejen was standing in the door frame, a cane in one hand and a smile on his face. "So you aren't talent less. And you're stubborn. I like that. The best kind of student is the kind that doesn't take no for an answer."
Eleina stared at the old man, drinking in his appearance. Unlike her he seemed to be evenly split between the races, half water and half fire. He also seemed ancient. Although his age assured her that he would be a wise teacher, it also made her wonder if he would even be able to teach. It didn't even look like he was able to walk without the can he held.
Dejen picked up the cane and thrust it to the floor. At once the hole she had dug started to fill with water. "After you drink your fill fill those two buckets with water and bring them inside. We have a lot to do."
Before she could even think another thought about his age Eleina started to drink the water. It was so tasty, though she wasn't sure if it was because it was pure or because she had gone so long without water. When she was done she looked back up at him, realizing that the cane he held was also a staff. Maybe there was more then looks to him. To call forth that much water and not even look like he had used any energy had to be hard.
"Come now, the buckets won't fill themselves. Bring them inside and then we can put some food in you before we head out to the market. I'll be needing a lot more food now that there will be two of us. You won't stay here all the time of course but you will be here most days I assume..." he continued talking but all Eleina could think about was that she finally found a teacher.
