Name: Z'ke
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bi
Rank: *Courier
History:
Born to riders at Trine, Zarike was raised in the creche for his first few turns of life. At the age of 4 he began schooling with the other weyrbrats. He quickly proved that while he was energetic and rather fearless, he had a quick mind and a passion for learning. He and his teacher, Hyasin, bonded quickly and it only took a couple turns before he was fostered by the older Harper. He moved from the creche to Hyasin's quarters in the weyr's crafter complex and four turns now they've lived together as father and son, close as anyone could ask.
When the revolution struck Hyas had taken Zarike and the other children out into the woods for a feild trip while the rest of the weyr was out at the demonstration. It was lucky that he had done so, he was able to move them deeper into the woods and shelter them until the returning riders reclaimed their home.
When Hyasin was about 34 a new student joined his class, he was a young boy, only 4 turns old but sharp as a dragon's claw. Hyasin was impressed by the speed at which the kid seemed to soak up knowledge. Though over the next few turns he managed to develop quite the reckless streak. Hyasin found himself with an almost fatherly concern for the boy who had become his favorite pupil. After discussing it over with the Head Woman, Hyasin moved to formally foster the lad, welcoming Zarike as his own son.
Hyasin also saw potential in the lad and as soon as he'd settled in, Hyasin began teaching him Harper tricks, expanding the child's vocabulary and teaching him ways of persuasion and problem solving. He took as much joy in teaching as Zarike did in learning though nothing the harper did could dissuade Zarike's adventurous ways nor stop him from getting into the occasional scuffle with the other weyrbrats.
Life was generally calm and found Hyasin happier than he'd been in turns until the revolution struck. Hyasin had stayed behind, helping watch the creche as most of the adults in Trine made their way to watch the demonstration. He'd come up with a few outdoors lessons to entertain the children as their caretakers and guardians weren't around. It wasn't hard to sense the brewing undercurrent of unrest among the whers, he'd unfortunately discounted it as the normal dissent between the two factions of dragon-kind. The day they'd struck Hyasin had thankfully taken the children to the outskirts of Trine, planning a camp out in a sparse section of jungle that saw little of predator activity due to the proximity to dragons.
His lesson on the varieties of plant and animal life around Trine and their uses was interrupted by the screeching of a couple firelizards as they burst into the air above their bondeds. The older students began to panic as the horrible images were projected to their young minds. In the distance, columns of smoke began to rise from the weyr and Hyasin realized something terrible had happened. He quickly ushered the children deeper into the forest, asking those with lizards to explain what they were seeing and keep an eye out for dangers in the jungle.
Their one night camp-out turned into two horrible sevendays as the fighting continued. Hyasin used what knowledge he had to help keep the kids safe and fed and hidden. Frequent reports from the firelizards kept them informed as to the state of things and as they reported the Riders finally driving the whers away, Hyasin packed up the kids and began the slow careful progress back home.

Description:
Coming from good rider stock, Zarike is already displaying the broad shoulders and long limbs of a man born for an active lifestyle. He has shaggy brown hair that constantly falls into his blue eyes. His skin is brown like most southern pernese, burnt golden by the sun. Zarike looks like he's never seen the inside of a building with a tan like that. He's almost always covered by smudges of dirt, twigs in his hair and scuffs and scrapes on every inch of exposed skin.
Personality:
Zarike's fearless, nothing intimidates this young boy. You can't bully or threaten him into doing what you want. Instead kindness is the best route to take. Be kind to him and he'll return the favor, be cruel and watch out. Zarike doesn't tolerate bullies no matter how big. He has a noble heart and will always stand up for the little guy, the underdog, even if he himself is no match for his opponent. He believes the world should be fair to everyone. More than once he's come to another child's defense with his fists. He's small but quick and ferocious when provoked. He won't stop until his opponent does, but then he'll back off quickly. He doesn't really want to hurt anyone.
Zarike's terribly curious about the world. He likes watching adults at their work and helping if he's allowed. If not he'll ask questions for as long as his subject holds his attention. He's not afraid to talk to anyone be they human, dragon, wher, or even the Weyrleader's and Lord Holder's themselves. Some might find it annoying or others cute, but he's very earnest and serious when doing so.
He's still young enough for naivety and believes you're innocent and a good person until you prove otherwise. He's quick to trust others and devastated when that trust is broken.
He does hate being kept waiting. Things should happen Now, not Later. He'll get frustrated and even angry fairly quick when something doesn't happen fast enough for him. He'll dive headlong into something recklessly rather than wait for a solid plan or more information. Sitting still and quiet is hard if he's not being entertained by something.
Other:
Dragon
Name: Chiroth
Age: 10
Colour: Black
Description: above average & average
Personality:
Craves new information/ hoards knowledge, Enthusiastic, Impulsive, procrastinates, easily distracted
If Chiroth had an attention span longer than a flits then it's possible he could have become the first dragon to learn to read. His memory is remarkable... but his focus is not. Chiroth craves knowledge and new information but only in small snippets. He is the prince of random trivia but lacks any real depth to his thinking.
Still he is enthusiastic in his passions and almost always up for participating in some new task until the novelty wears off. Then comes an unfortunate round of foot-dragging, wheedling attempts to get out of it, and sullen pouting if he can't. Zarike has become adept at keeping the black on task by keeping his mind occupied. Together they hash out all the details of whatever has Chiroth's attention at the time and Zarike has become accustomed to following the sometimes jarring jumps of logic or topic. One moment they could be discussing the newest oddity to be unearthed by the ancientcrafters, the next Chiroth has connected it through the wherwars and to 'where does a trundlebugs stink come from?'.
