Al waited at the portals first thing in the morning, he was anxiously waiting for Noah to join him. More like vibrating with excitement. There was simply a lot of not holding still at all. It had been a while since he took advantage of leave for his own selfish ends and he was keen to do it this time. With Noah.
He had already let the techs know where he wanted to go; Glasgow, Scotland and the nearest grocer with all of his favourite junk foods in stock. Preferably next door to a Gregg's. He probably should have warned Noah that he hadn't eaten in a day so that he could eat all the things, just gulp them down like a ******** snake. Come back to the island with various junk-food-shaped lumps in his figure. He anxiously looked at his phone again. Another minute passed, just what is keeping him?!

"I found my backpack," Noah reported cheerfully as he jogged up, the aforementioned item slung over one shoulder. "It was under the laundry basket,. that's why I couldn't find it." He'd left his coat behind in favor of jeans and a t-shirt, the generic uniform of teenager. He was looking forward to this trip. The last couple of times he'd been permitted to go off the island, it had been mostly for utilitarian shopping purposes. While this was also a shopping trip, it wasn't just going for stuff he needed. It was also fun, and a place to go that he'd never been before, and time to hang out with Al and act like normal people.

Al let out a loud and sudden high-pitched whining-sort-of-noise upon seeing Noah finally arrive. He didn't even bother listening to his full explanation of what kept him before taking his hand and leading/dragging him through the portal ASAP.
Al might have been waiting for this trip slightly more than Noah had been.

Noah was laughing when they came out on the other side. "I guess I kept you waiting, sorry," he said, and sounded at least a little like he meant it. He looked around curiously, taking in their surroundings. "I guess we got a grey day, huh."

Noah could hear a very clear, very sharp snort followed by a grin. "I'd be almost disappointed if it wasn't a bit rainy too." His attention raptly shot down each direction of the sidewalk the emerged out onto. He was seeking something in particular and after a few moments found the all-familiar bright blue sign with bright white lettering "GREGGS" accompanied by the blocky orange squares. He looked back at Noah, contemplating if he should drag him again or simply trust that he could keep up on his own. He decided to give Noah the chance and with an excited, "this way!" he was off like a coursing hare.

The snort got a puzzled stare, but Noah followed Al without complaint. He didn't know where he was going, and Al seemed to have something particular in mind. He trotted along in pursuit, gawking around him like a tourist - not that he wasn't, really, it was a stereotype for a reason - and caught up near the entrance.

Al immediately filed into the line and turned to smile brightly at Noah, "Greggs is the perfect start." He assured Noah before turning to glean over the glass case looking for his selection. He pointed to a square fresh pastry, that was exactly it. He suppressed his excitement just in time for his turn "Steak bake please", then looked at Noah curiously. It simplified things for him to pay for the both of them in one go.

Noah looked at the array of foods on display -- something that looked pizza-ish, various pastries, trays of square things labeled with different meats, most of it unfamiliar but reassuringly non-exotic-looking. He wasn't going to have a pizza, because he knew what pizza was like, but he wasn't feeling quite bold enough to just branch out and pick something at random, even if most of the available items seemed like they would taste okay to good. You never knew what you were going to get when you went to a new place. He'd once visited his nana in Louisiana and gotten something that she'd called a beef pasty, and he knew what beef pasties were supposed to taste like, and what he'd had had been weirdly curry-flavored and SPICY. However, he knew what Al liked to eat, and it was a reasonably safe bet that a pastry with steak in it would appeal to him too. "Um, the same thing please," he said, and got a look somewhere between startled and amused from the clerk at his accent. It probably wasn't spicy. He hoped not, anyway.

Al's smile grew into a wide grin at the reaction of the clerk as well as a few person's still in line behind Noah who had heard him. Sorry Noah, he was going to enjoy that reaction to your accent just a bit. Sorry folks, but this one is his.
He paid and took the two bags offered them and lead the way back out of the shop and onto the streets. There were several benches across the road to choose from, and even more pigeons congregating between them and the shops. The birds were well adapted and clever enough they were following people out, and ignoring those going in.
Al found a bench near a trash can that was still unoccupied and snatched it right up, sitting and offering Noah one of the two bags. "What do you want to try most after this? Sweet, spicy, salty, savoury? Or we can ******** about in a sex shoppe." He flashed a toothy grin again, sorry Noah. It was sort of nice to be anonymous in such a big city.
