for your fellow ranting Time Guy Chrono, has brought to you yet another thing one should consider when making a new guild.
ITS A NEW RANT Discussion, YES IT IS!
And I'd like for this to be a discussion if at all possible as it pertains to wrestlers having custom belts, and every time I see a 'real' wrestlers custom championship (you'll know exactly what I mean soon enough) for a created wrestler fed as 'the' top championship in a fed it really irks me. Keep in mind that this is all OPINIONATED, meaning it is MY opinion. So if you don't feel like this is something for you, or that you'd like to see, feel like doing. By all means, don't.
This contains no insults, (other than the minor ones about things aesthetically)
Before I get into a tirade about this, permit me if you will to explain.
The Story:
I was looking at these new guilds that pop up, and some from that universal list of the guilds. I've noticed a trend. A vast majority of them have been using that, for lack of a better terminology I'm going to quote Ken Anderson
'I can eat a box of crayons and poop out a better looking world championship than this piece of crap'
Which if you don't know what I'm referring to now it's the crappy Jeff Hardy custom championship that plagued TNA during his championship run, then another one was introduced. But we're focusing on the purple one as that is the most frequently one I've seen.
Yes I understand that I'm trying to convince 15 year olds that Jeff Hardy is NOT the greatest wrestler of all time, and his belt is the worst looking design since the Divas Championship (which they do look remarkably similar), or the current X-Division Championship that looks like the NXT title and the IC title had a love child, then that love child was impregnated by Sean Waltman.
But out of all the thousands of championships you can find on the internet simply by typing 'wrestling championship' on google or whatever, do you go 'Oh I'm totally going to use this purple championship as my main title'
Like what possesses anyone to think that. I wouldn't even use it for a tiki-themed wrestling guild (which I HAVE done so don't get any ideas), because it vaguely resembles a tiki head. I wouldn't give that championship to the worst of the worst of the worst of people here.
But that's my opinion
You as a guild owner want your top championship to be not only ascetically pleasing, but also make your title holders be proud to hold that championship, to be proud to defend it with their lives, that it matters.
To me, if your top world championship looks like the piece of crap Jeff Hardy title, but your mid-card title looks like the WWE Undisputed Championship. Then consider me the most dominant person in your midcard division because I would personally handwrap and deliver on a bow that crappy Jeff Hardy championship to any inspiring newbie who wants to be world champion
that is if I was on your roster.
I know there are several Undertaker marks here, hell let's face it one of our own plays a palette swapped version of him, and I'm not bashing said individual but I'm making a point.
Do you really see Undertaker waving that piece of crap around with pride? Did Undertaker wear that spinner belt that Cena had? No, why?
I even see said individual that I am referring to, agree with me that that championship is a piece of crap.
Because he held the World Heavyweight Championship, it wasn't a gimmicky championship. It didn't spin, it didn't look like a butterfly, didn't look like poorly drawn face. It was classy and dignified and it worked for him
Yes the person who is the champion, makes the championship.
However from an outsider looking in, and let's just say for arguments sake that you're flipping through channels and you see this tough guy parading around this butterfly championship treating it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Your first response is going to be 'Gay' and then change the channel.
You as a guild owner are obligated to present something that others want, and a goal worth achieving.
Yes as a booker, your main goal is to put on the best show you possibly can while throwing things that 'you' would like to see, but this isn't about being a booker. This is about being a guild owner.
Because if you cater to your interest, and only your interests than where's your core audience.
Yes, a guild owner isn't obligated to cater each and every single individual entity, but they should reflect on 'what's best for business', pardon the pun.
However you as a guild owner should at least 'attempt' to put your own company's initials on a championship. Either by paint, or photoshop or having someone do it for you.
Your guild's championships also should reflect your company.
If your guild has TNA in it's initials, why does your championships say WWE?
If your guild name has WWE in it, or something to that extent, why are you using ROH championships.
Do please try and fix your championships to reflect the company you're trying to represent.
But this is a game, and that doesn't matter and blah blah blah
Yes it is a text based game, however if you present something that no one is buying than what have you really made? Nothing.
Going the extra mile to make everything, whether it's championships or the guild itself look nice and presentable shows that you're willing to put that extra mile into running things, it shows confidence and stability.
But I'm leaving in a year I don't care
If you don't care than why should we, further more why are you making something if you're not going to be around?
But what if I want a custom championship because...
If the storyline is appropriate YES then use a custom championship that represents THAT particular character.
But it should only be represented BY THAT CHARACTER.
However, use it sparingly. Not some once a championship change reign thing because that'll get quickly old really fast.
A custom championship should be done every few years, if ever. It should be impactful, make a statement. Not be a footnote
Did the blinged out spinner (since it's inception) WWE Championship belt fit the likes of Orton, HHH, Sheamus.Batista, etc
No, it did not.
Your guild's main championship should be a universal championship in the sense that it'll look good on anyone who wears it. Simply put.
Discuss.
