IC

Isolder was surprised from behind, his belt and pack stolen. When he turned to try and stop the thief, the person was already booking it, leaving Isolder unable to see his face.

The shifter, after seeing that he was being chased, slipped into the crowd, placing the stolen belt pouch into another's pocket unsuspectingly. He quickly tossed his cloak and ran towards Isolder, as he exclaimed "I saw the thief!"

He had slipped the stolen goods into a wind nomad's backpack.

Quest Tasks
||. The quest should start with Isolder being robbed without being aware.
||. By the time he figures it out, the thief has already disappeared into the crowd.
||. The shifter thief will come to Isolder exclaiming that he saw the thief and that it was a wind nomad.
||. He will produce the stolen goods from the pack, but both sides weave a convincing story.
||. Isolder must figure out a way to discover who is telling the truth.
||. If he chooses the wind nomad as the thief, the shifter will disappear with his things, getting away with it.
||. If he chooses the shifter as the thief, the man will fight him (and win) to get away and take his stuff.
||. The quest should end with Isolder's thoughts on the shifter thief in relation to his thoughts on the races as a whole and any biases he may have had.

Isolder was in town procurring some hot lunch for his loudly complaing empty belly, he had waited in a line for what semmed like hours, his feet were getting a little sore and he was not impressed with the perfume of the ladt shifter standing in front of him. It would all be much better,he told himself, once he got some food. Finally he reached the vendor and ordered one of his favorite meals. He looked down to check his belt pouch for the correct amount of cash; and it was gone! Had he dropped it? He turned and looked back into the crwd of people waiting in line behind him, nope the pouch wasn't on the ground. Might it have been stolen? Either way he couldn't pay for his food, he was heartbroken and so was his inconsolable stomach.
"Cancel that order, I can't pay for it," he sighed, frustrated. Hungry and desolate he walked away wondering just when he had lost the belt pouch. It would probably be long gone by now, bouying up someone elses fortunes, well maybe his brother could lend him some for food. Isolder hated to ask it was demeaning to borrow money off a younger sibling but the theft hadn't really been his fault. Of course he could have been paying more attention to his to his surroundings, instead of his stomach.

Isolder looked up to see an older shifter waving at him excitedly. Isolder hurried over: not sure what to expect of the man.

"I saw who did it; who stole your bag, purse thing!" The male said excitedly, it were a wind nomad guy, you know how they are."

Isolder blinked, he had thought that bag was gone for good. He felt a little odd about this person though, why tell him so long after the fact, what was the point? Did they expect a reward? He followed the male right to a wind nomad who looked up at them with a vaguely friendly expression so either he was innocent or a really good liar.

"He did it, i saw him sneak up behind you using the crowd as a cover."

“No you didn’t, I have been here the whole time a few minutes ago you came up and bumped me then ran off to get this guy.”
“Oh yeah open your bag, we’ll see who is telling the truth here.”
The windling looked at Isolder who nodded, no sense jumping to conclusions yet, he was used to shifters had been around them most of his life but the nicest ones had been hybrid or alk lately and he wouldn’t forget that in this awkward moment tinted with rage, anger and no small amount of hunger. Windy opened his bag and blushing furiously produced the stolen bag. His fair skin blazed a firy crimson in the bright yellow light of the noonday sun.
“I have plenty of money of my own, my father is a wealthy merchant, I have no need of a purse I have my own.”
The accusing shifter stepped forward and too the purse from the depths of the bat. “Is this yours? I knew it was the one who stole it, stealthy wind rat,” the shifter spat. “One might aske what he is doing here to begin with, skulking around like he owns the place.
“I’m here with my father we are ‘merchants’ or can’t you hear you waife.” The windman sneered, all patience having left with the continued inquisition.
Isolder wasn’t sure exactly who to believe but he thought it was more likely that a shifter here would be a thief having a much better chance of fitting in over a conspicuous wind nomad who was indeed in fine clothes and obviously well to do over the scragely from of the shifter.
“Okay, okay stop, I know which one of you I believe and which one I don’t.”
He stared hard at both males, finally settling on the shifter, “I believe the windling, both of your stories were good, but I’m following my gut on this one.”
“You would believe a nasty pink crystaled wind brat over me? A fellow shifter, you truly are despicable, its a good thing I did steal that fine purse from you since you so clearly do not deserve a cent thats in there.” The shifter’s words dripped with venom, Isolder could almost taste it in his mouth. He rather thought this description unfair since he had been right. The shifter stood his purse in his hand.
“Give it back,” Isolder said, civilly if he did say so himself.
“You want it scum, come get it.” The shifter’s lip curled in a sneer, revealing blackened teeth.

This gave Isolder no choice, “Very well, best leave while you can,” he said to the wind boy who wasted no time in scurrying away with his friends. Now Isolder only had to worry about the rangey looking mean shifter.
“Seriously give it back!” Isolder shouted his face starting to flush with the rage that was usually hidden beneath his mellow personality. “Now.” He clenched his fists and the theif twirled a knife. “You don’t scare me, you don’t even have a weapon twerp.
Isolder raised his head dramatically, “When your training to be a guard, you don’t need a weapon. I have all I need.” Done with patience Isolder pounced, nearly getting skewered by the thrown knife, it grazed his side and it burned worse then he thought. He grunted and an evil chuckle came from in front of him. By now he was cross, and not about to stop his assault because of a little knife cut, not the blade was gone, he would have the pest where he wanted him in hand to hand contest.
Iso smacked into the other shifter and they wrestled on the ground for quite a while, exchanging punches, grunting and swearing in a heap of tangled limbs. It would have been more fun if his side didn’t sting, he thought he had the upper hand. Then a wracking pain shot through his side and his opponent scurried up while Isolder was writhing on the ground in pain.
“Not so smart are you now fist boy. That’s dim root, cause you have to be dim to not put it on your weapons, named it myself can’t you tell. I would tell you the cure but you won’t be able to reach it on your back like the turtle you are. Dim is after all another word for slow.” Bouncing Isolder’s purse in his hand he moved off into the jungle.
Isolder was having some trouble breathing through the awful pain, gasping, it felt like one of the other poison’s he had heard of. It wasn’t lethal, although it felt like it, maybe he could get some attention and they would drag his sorry butt to the healer. He did note that at least his fists still felt okay, better then okay, it had been a while since his last tumble and he would enjoy the feeling a lot more if he could still feel his toes. He sighed then gasped like a fish, if he ever got his hands on that rat again he would throttle him.

Just because he was a pure blooded shifter with a pure blood family, at least so far as he knew didn't mean he couldn't enjoy the company of, trust or even date those who were not. People were individuals after all not governed by type alone. All the different types did was to make a convenient pathway for descrimination to take root and gain a firm hold. The alks, others, there were descriminators among everyone and some who tried to use that for their own gain. He would have to focus on how to tell the difference like he had today. He hadn't gotten his reward back, his purse but at least the innocent man had gotten away, so had the bad guy but at least Isolder didn't want to eat anymore, his stomach was too busy fighting off the awful poison cramps. Revenge sounded rather attracted at this point, but maybe he would just be smarter and carry a vial of the same toxin with him. Just in case and maybe he would repay the favor, maybe the vial would save his life from another attacker, who knew. But he could treat this as a positive thing not a negative thing. He was still alive, he would come out of this with no damage or so his healer said when she changed the cloth on his brow and placed the blanket over his shivering limbs. Others including the wind man had carried him to her.

He had made the windling run, but he had come back to help him when he was in need. That was almost worth the pain the wracked him from fingertips to toes. Only a few hours left, but it felt just awful, apparently he was into the worst part and a few flamboyant descriptions ran through his mind. Suffice it to say it was an extremely unpleasant feeling.

To pass the time he thought about his personal philosophy. Alks were large firey woman for the most part but shouldn't there be some gentle ones? Healers perhaps? Or did his friend get her gentleness from her wind half. Leaflings were tan and sturdy, obans dark and mysterious, but in each case were there exceptions? Even in his own purely shifter family, they were so different so how could one place all shifters in the same pocket, he certainly didn't want to be associated with the thief, they were not the same, no where near. So in that case how could he judge all alks the same or all leafs.

As to wear hybrids fit, they had a unique opportunity even more individual then others, facing the chance of descrimination from their respective parts when they belonged to more then one tribe, those tribes could decide that they didn't belong because of their other parts. That was unfair, they were still tendajians only different looking and usually quite beautiful, were some of the pure bloods jealous? Was he jealous? Not when he could spend all the time he wanted with them as they would let him.

Maybe the poison had gotten to his brain. He was rambling about things in his head, the thoughts seeming to ping off the walls and change so either he was derranged or was on the cusp on an epiphany. Only time and sleep would tell, he was exhausted.

Eventually the shaking stopped, the pain subsided and he felt like warm boiled pasta, boneless and limp. He didn't have the strength to stand for a while but he felt like perhaps he had made some head way with his thoughts. Perhaps he was right. Perhaps not. But it felt right, it felt enlightened, not that he had been overly wary of others before, he knew what shifters were like, what his own father was like, not all shifters were the same. He was different, one life among all of those in tendaji he could be a good person, he could treat others fairly and protect those he loved from all those he could that would seek to do them harm or take advantage of them. He couldn't solve all the problems here, but he could try to help with the big ones and he could hopefully fix the small ones.

His family and his friends were important to him, and helping those who couldn't help themselves would give him another sense of fulfillment. He liked feeling good and he could pursue that..with his fists.

As soon as he was able, he went to an apothecary and ordered three vials of the same poison that had wracked him. It was safe for the target if awful and now that he had experienced it, he would be better able to judge those who did not deserve to go through that pain but he never wanted to be helpless like he had been ever again. That shifter could have done much worse to him then run off with his purse. He had had to trade the last of his back up stash for the poison but he quickly entered a few fights to regain his fund.. the vials stayed in his bag.

He had a lot of learning left to do, but he thought that this experience had been a good start, it just confirmed and helped elaborate on what he had known before; individuals should be judged on their own not by their appearance or their people.
