After the embarrassment (totally all Yinehi's fault) of last year's Sky Ceremony, Tsi-Tsi was absolutely determined to try again. And at least make it past the first round. No more, and no less. He still wasn't that interested in winning, he just didn't want to look like an absolute idiot in front of the whole pride! He was a Kanati of Bird Clan after all. His first opponent this year was an older lion of his own clan, though not one he knew well. But Usdi had been around his whole life, with his bird. Huh...wasn't Yinehi doing something with birds and feathers? Well, his sister was always doing something. What didn't really matter. What did was that Tsi-Tsi couldn't let himself get distracted before the fight even started!

It was hardly Usdi's first Sky Festival - in fact, if he was counting right, it was his fifth. But it was his first time participating in the Sky Ceremony. He could admit that he was just a little excited for participating this year, and maybe a little offput to be matched up against Tsi-Tsi. He didn't know the other male that well, but he distinctly remembered when he'd been born just a pawful of years ago. Even Diganeli had been long hatched and at his side by that time. He didn't think he was that old... Was he?
He shook his head, his mane fluffing up even more with the motion. This wasn't really the time to be having some sort of... Midlife crisis. They were supposed to be dueling! He took a deep breath to steady himself, waiting until he was certain the other lion was ready before he lunged forward and struck towards his shoulder with a paw.Usdi Roll 1: Half

Whoa! Tsi-Tsi attempted to dodge as a large blur of brown and red came towards him. He managed to miss the full force of Usdi's blow, but it would still leave a bruise. Talk about the dangers of letting your mind wander! The younger lion retaliated with a paw of his own, though he hadn't taken the necessary moments in order to plant his feet and steady himself.

Usdi was pleasantly surprised to have caught his opponent off guard, and even if his blow was only glancing he felt a swell of pride in his chest that he'd even landed it. Of course, he couldn't take too long to indulge in the feeling - he was still in the middle of a duel after all. But his distraction lasted just long enough to allow Tsi-Tsi to get in a quick smack to his face, which he quickly flinched away from. While he blinked the spots out of his vision, he swiped blindly with his own paw and backpedaled, shaking his head until his vision cleared. Okay so... No more getting distracted.

Usdi's paw was heavy, but it wasn't a bad thing this time. In fact, it gave Tsi-Tsi the direction he needed to steady himself once more. Of course, he'd acquired yet another bruise-to-be, but that was only to expected. In fact, this was kind of fun! So much better than being pounded into the dirt by a lioness.
With that positive thought in mind, the younger lion straightened his spine, using his head as a weapon to ram into his opponent.

Headbutting? Headbutting!?
Usdi tried to dodge, he really did. As soon as he saw Tsi-Tsi charging, he dove to one side - but unfortunately he hadn't noticed it quite fast enough. The other lion collided with his side and he went sprawling across the dirt, kicking up dust as he tumbled a short distance away. It took him a long moment to get back to his feet, and he shook the debris out of his fur after a moment. He was pretty sure he'd accidentally kicked Tsi-Tsi in the face when he'd gone down. He really hoped it hadn't hurt too bad...

Okay, ow. Ow ow ow.
He had not expected his head to hit Usdi so hard. And then there was the paw grazing his face as the other lion went down. Were those stars he was seeing? Tsi-Tsi shook his head, trying to clear it, as he thrust a paw out half trying to hit the older lion, half just trying to keep him away until he'd recovered.
Had he mentioned ow?
