Zinnia and Zebo took their places on the field. Zinnia waved to her opponent while Zebo lashed his tail, waiting eagerly for the fight.

Emalthya hurried back into the stadium. "I hope I'm not late," she said, pulling up to her trainer's dais with a sandwich in one hand and her bag in the other.
Pheonix glided in above her and landed in the stadium. He nodded companionably at Zebo. He had enjoyed their last battle.
"Hi, ready to go, Zinnia?" Emalthya called out. "Sorry, we were having lunch and didn't realise the time!" She took a bite out of her sandwich. She had spent most of lunch feeding nuts to her lapras, being a digit-deficient pokemon, and had not really eaten herself.

A tiny spark of rage went off in Zinnia's mind like an electric shock. "Don't call me that!" she shouted at Emalthya. "My name is Zin! Zebo, Snarl!"
Zebo knew very well that his trainer hated being called by her full name. He responded to her anger and released a guttural growl, lashing his tail as he stared down his giant opponent.

Emalthya started and froze, shocked. Then her eyes narrowed. She had had enough of people being rude.
"I think this will be our last battle here, Pheonix," she said in a low voice.
Pheonix, too well trained to take his eyes off his opponent, heard and grew concerned. Then he was hit by the snarl. He suddenly could only see the parts of Zebo that could potentially harm him; claws, teeth, tail. There was nowhere safe to hit!
"Heatwave, Pheonix!"
Pheonix exhaled a wide swathe of flames on his opponent.

((Ah, all stat changing goes by +/- 50. smile So it'd be -50 attack.))
Zebo's fur stood on end as the flames threatened to engulf him. He managed to sprint out of the way, just barely saving his fur from getting singed.
"Slash!" Zin commanded.
Though the liepard was none to eager to close in on the giant fire-breathing pokemon, he obeyed with unsheathed claws.

"Shake it off and use dragon claw," called Emalthya in a stilted voice.
Pheonix tried to decide on a good spot on Zebo to attack- but every time it moved! He hesitated and then flung himself down, claws outstretched.
