Hiei grumbled a lot these days. His paws dug at the earth, shifting the material between the claws as he withstood the sun that was bearing down on him. He was on scouting duty today and all he wanted to do now was find a shady place to lie in and cool off. Daisuke would not allow it though. Hiei's grumbles rose in volume as he began to mutter under his breath.
"Stupid scouting. It's stupid and pointless. Why even bother? No one is around in this area so who does Dai think will attack us? No one knows that we are even here yet. I don't see why I can't do what I want to do instead."

The black colored stallion wanted more to hunt than anything. Scouting just was not for him. He was too restless and he was liable to attack something rather than assess if it was a danger to his brothers. Grumbling even louder Hiei shifted from paw to paw as he stretched out his wings. They were impressive and Hiei had never really given them too much thought. They carried him and his brothers to this new land. Rolling his shoulders the stallion sighed again before trotting over to a shady piece of ground. It wouldn't hurt to catch a few winks. It was way too hot to do anything else but laze around. He could always just tell Daisuke that he stood his shift as scout. No one would know the truth.

Hiei observed the land before him. It had seemed like only a small amount of time had passed since he had travelled here to these lands with his brothers and yet he had made no real effort to go and connect with other individuals. Considering his impulsive ways that was something of a change for him. The black stallion sighed as he scoffed at the change in scenery. Lately the ground was always covered with a layer of snow and it was making it much more difficult to hunt. Scouting was too easy as everything stood out but hunting was proving a great challenge.
Hiei relished it though.

The stallion got many chances to hone his tracking skills in this new environment Tracking potential meals through the snow took time and practice and one had to make sure that they were actually on the trail of something that would not wish to attack back. Already Hiei had gotten into a few scraps with the local fauna and one such encounter had the stallion counting his lucky stars. He had trailed many days after a predatory feline only to have it shift and reveal its true nature of being a skinwalker. Hiei had been lucky enough not to end up on someone else's dinner plate that day as quick thinking took him out of reach of the creature's deadly paws.
Shaking his head at the memory Hiei muttered to himself as the trail he was following suddenly disappeared into a cave. The stallion knew better than to follow. Caves meant limited space and he would be a fool to try and exit such a place in a hurry. No he would sit out this new chase and wait for something else to wander across his path.
