Everything kind of hurt.
In retrospect, Chance thought, maybe the artifact wasn't quite what he'd thought it would be. The four hours of complete and utter freedom from pain was definitely a benefit; he'd timed it well, keeping an eye on the clock to determine just how long it would last.
What he had not timed yet was the sensations of right now, when it felt like his body was being stabbed all over with the sensation of tiny pins.
He dragged his phone out of his pocket, swiped a thumb across the screen and typed out a message, Chance leaning against the side of the wall on the trainee dorm floor (he hadn't quite made it to his room yet).

Otto had not been busy. He'd finished his duties some while ago. Idly chewing on the drawstring from his hoodie while playing a game on his cell phone, he got Chance's text. kuuropii Text to Man Baby: Nope. Sup? He replied back, not bothering to g back to resuming the game he'd had. He really ought to get some kind of handheld gaming system. Sometime. Later. Getting it runic'd would take time too once he got said thing.

Otto was not busy, which was a good sign. Chance didn't reply to the text, but instead dragged himself slowly towards the end of the hallway, where he took the stairs one at a time (it took quite a bit longer than normal, which he wasn't sure made him pathetic or just sad).
When he finally reached Otto's room, Chance just knocked once and sagged slightly against the door frame.

That was odd. Why the delay? Otto looked to the door after hearing only one knock. And a soft noise that did not sound like a knock at all. His brows furrowed. If it was Chance, he could have just walked in. Or sounded a little more enthused.
Otto got up and made his way to the door, and opened it...

Chance's normally pale face was a shade lighter than it would have been normally when he raised his head to offer Otto a wan smile.
"Hey, beautiful," he said mildly, voice a little hoarse. There were bruises on his hands, an ache in his chest. "Thought I'd stop by and see if you were, you know...doing okay."
Considering that he was looking rather ill, this was clearly not the entire reason for his visit.

"Um.. speak for yourself." Otto said after taking a minute to really get a good look at Chance. "You look like death." He dragged Chance by the collar into his room before shutting the door. "Go siddown. What the ******** happened to you?" He wasn't sick with a green eye virus was he..?

Chance stumbled in, almost toppling over at the sudden gesture, feet sliding on the carpet. He straightened, wincing a little, and padded slowly and obediently over to the couch, crawling onto it and leaning back with his eyes momentarily closed.
"I look delightful," he said in mock outrage, but he turned and looked at Otto, a slight smile on his lips.
"I had a little, uh...incident. Well," Chance amended. "I did a bit of an experiment with a certain item I found."

"I really don't like the sound of that." Or the look of him. But, hey, if Otto found an item (and he had) he'd test it out too. "So uh.." He began while sitting down on the coffee table to face Chance. "Bad result? Good result?" Just because Chance looked beat, didn't mean his experiment was a failure.

He thought about it for a moment.
"Kind of both," said Chance at last, and he extended his left arm. Beside the SPECTRE watch there was an odd gold cuff, almost like a manacle, a few links still dangling off of it. The skin around it was also tinged a shade of gold, spindling outwards over his arm.
"This thing prevents pain, apparently," he said with a wan smile. "But only for a few hours, and after that..."
He shifted a little and hissed through his teeth, flinching.
"Apparently after that it makes me really ******** sensitive to anything, and I have yet to figure out how long that'll last."

Oh yeah, those new watches. Otto still needed to grab one. Eh.. later. Chance's artifact was intense. It would come in handy, sure. As a Sun especially. Yet there were so many issues that made it dangerous. No way to measure how much damage you took. And if this side effect lasted too long... "I guess I shouldn'ta grabbed you." He said lainly after a moment. Manhandling Chance in such a state was not the best move. He grimaced, looking the man over. "You been timin' it?"

"I like it when you get rough, though," said Chance with a slight smirk, leaning back against the couch as he eased out a breath. "I timed the first part of it, which was the insensitivity to pain. Overall it seems to last about four hours, give or take a few minutes."
H lifted a hand and ran his bruised fingers through his hair, exhaling a sigh.
"It's been about...two since that wore off, no telling how much longer the rest will last, but it's really ******** annoying. I kind of feel like I've got that pins and needles sensation over my whole body."

Oh Chance, you frisky biscuit you. "So like.. if you ever find yourself in a torture chamber, it's got your back a few hours." Which was sadly very helpful. If Chance had damning information that could be used in the wrong hands, it helped if he could resist himself to such methods. "Actually, if you get super hurt but you got a long ways to go on foot before you get to safety... Then, that'd work there too." "Just what'd you test this thing out on that's got you so bruised?"

"Yes, well..." said Chance with a slight groan. "Here's to hoping that I never get stuck in this theoretical torture chamber, because it sounds horribly uncomfortable all the same."
He didn't answer the question at first, Chance biting his lower lip in hesitation, but eventually he rolled his head back to look at Otto. His expression was surprisingly sheepish, like a kid found with their hand stuck in the cookie jar when they weren't supposed to be there.
"I may have...taken a little trip to the Haunted House," he said innocently.

Otto grimaced. "....was it a student?" Please say it was a student, Chance. Then again, even the students were terrifying. The alumni especially. He could name two right off his head he feared running into; The Vetela, and Alex.

He sucked in a breath, which kind of hurt, and shifted on the couch.
"A Horseman," said Chance, eyes flickering to Otto's face and the flinch that had passed over it. "Didn't get her name."
