Ogbonna had been captured and could barely hear anything; but he could see the fate of himself and the other's captured by these bandits quite clearly!
The group of bandits looked angry, their hands straying to weapons, whispering to each other and glaring at the bound captives. So far they hadn't turned their eyes to him, instead yelling at the father of the boy Marus. He didn't have a lot of time before the words turned to bloodshed...
Quest Tasks ||. The quest starts out with Ogbonna realizing the danger the group is in. ||. He must try to convince the bandits to let them go or try to escape. ||. To convince the bandits, he will need to overcome his loss of hearing and convince them the lies that Marus's mother told them were just that; lies. ||. Should he try to escape, they will be discovered as half of them have gotten successfully out of the safe house they are bound in, resulting in a chase through the mountains. He may decide to stay behind and buy the others time or may choose to run with them. ||. Either way, the quest should end with all or most of the group escaping due to Ogbonna's actions.

Ogbonna woke the following morning to an odd sensation moving along the side of his face. It felt like the feedback from slam of an object, but had a separate vibration to it that made it sound more natural. His eyes peeled open and moved across to room, just to settle upon the back of the Massif he'd fallen asleep on the night before. The poor man was snoring his head off, probably causing the rest of the room grief from the sound, but only making Ogbonna concerned. They were still in the safe-house with the bandits then, and the last three days hadn't been a dream? Damn. He wiggled in his bindings, which were rope on his hands and feet, and accidentally knocked into a side table behind him, startling the rest of the room. Suddenly, three blonde people were in front of him shouting and the Massif had shot up awake, sending Ogbonna's resting head to the floor.
"Don't bother making noise! No one is going to hear you!" Yelled one of the bandits. Ogbonna furrowed his brows and tried to make sense of the nonsense he was hearing. Dun... Don't? Don't... Don't bather nose? Don't bathe nose? Why would they try to bathe? Was there even a bath around here? No, that couldn't be it. He was missing something...
"Excuse me?" He asked, attempting to bounce himself into a seated position, only to flop back to the ground. "Could you repeat that?"
"I said, don't bother making noise! No one is going to hear you!" The bandit repeated, sending bits of spit down onto Oggie's face. Once again, Oggie understood very little and arched his brow.
"I don't understand! Why do I need to bathe my nose?" He asked, looking to the Massif beside him.
Everyone's faces had fallen into confusion and remained that way until another bandit stepped forward and grabbed Ogbonna off the ground. Ogbonna could only dangle in the air as the bandit shouted in his face and dropped him to the ground again, but this time on his behind. He adjusted himself against the wall, looked around the room, and sighed.
"I didn't hear a thing that guy said." He muttered, shaking his head. "... Where is Marus? Is he okay?"
He looked to the faces of the group beside him for an answer and frowned when none seemed to have any clue. Well, this was fantastic, nobody had any clue where Marus was. Wasn't he the one in distress here? Ogbonna flopped his head against the wall and huffed out a breath. His first rescue mission had turned out to be a web of lies and insanity that he couldn't understand and probably never would. It wasn't something he'd call career worthy or honorable to his character. A deaf, incompetent Guard, just what the world asked for! His eyes gazed over to the door, across the floor, and over to where most of the bandit group stood. What were they doing, just standing and chatting? He leaned forward and squinted, as if that would help him hear, and noticed that a few from the group were pointing back at them. They were definitely talking about them, but in reference to what? Again, he looked to the others beside him, and studied their faces. The Massif, though tired, seemed concerned, while the others behind him were... Scared. He looked to the bandits, back to the group, and then to the floor.
"... They're going to hurt us, aren't they?" He muttered, turning his gaze up to the Massif again. The nod from the Massif made his heart skip a beat, and his cheeks puffed out. "There has to be something we can do! Don't they know about the fire in Mez, or about Marus' mom being involved?"
Suddenly, he was lifted into the air again, and dragged away from the group. The bandits had heard him chattering and obviously didn't appreciate something he'd said. However, while they were yelling and questioning him, Ogbonna noticed concern on their faces. What were they worried about? His face scrunched up.
"I'm deaf, I'm deaf!" He repeated. "If you want me to answer anything you're asking me about, you'll need to write it down! I won't understand you otherwise!"
He watched as a member of the bandit group threw his hands in the air and scrambled to find a piece of charcoal and a pad of paper, before scratching out a series of words and thrusting the note out to Ogbonna. The note, though written poorly, was just legible enough for him to understand.
"What fire in Mez, and where is Marus' mo- Oh!" Ogbonna exclaimed, taking a deep breath in. "The fire in Mez that happened four days ago! Marus' house was burned down, along with a lot of the village. I lost my hearing and my gauntlets were stolen when I tried to help put it out, but when I heard that Marus had been kidnapped as well, I took my grandpa's gauntlets and set out to find him."
He watched the faces of the bandits shift and twist before him, and slowly realized that they were still listening to him. He glanced to the group of four on the other side of the room, sucked in a breath, and continued.
"I met Marus' mother along the way to the mountains, where I had been told that Marus was being held by a group of bandits." He said, wiggling in his bindings. "She explained to me, after following me around for some time, that she was looking for the bandits that kidnapped her son, and I agreed to help her find them. However, when we reached the base of the mountain, we found that group of four over there. She started to attack them, so I figured that they were the bandits we were looking for and attacked. But, when we were defeated, the group took me aside and told me that she had lied to me."
He paused, watching as one of the bandits rushed to write something down and handed it back to him. The note explained that Marus' mother had written to them and told them about abuse that she had been getting from Marus' father, and asked them to save her. Ogbonna cocked his head to this and placed the note to the side.
"Well, she told me that she was living in Mez to try and get away from her bandit family, who didn't appreciate her moving away from them." He explained, furrowing his brow. "She also said that her family were the ones who started the blaze in Mez. You didn't do that, did you?"
The group shared a puzzled look amongst themselves and shook their heads rapidly. No, they hadn't been the ones to start the blaze, Ogbonna knew that. The group had explained to him that Marus' mother had been the one who started the blaze, and it was all because Marus had chosen a lover she didn't approve of. His mouth puckered. Should he try to explain that information? Would they believe him? They seemed inclined to listen to him so far... He looked to the group of four again and nodded. He would have to try.
"Please, listen, I know what I've told you has to sound far-fetched," He began, giving the bandits his best serious look. "But the group over there told me that Marus' mother was the one who started the fire, and all of this was over Marus being in love with one of the people in their group. She didn't approve of their relationship and tried to burn their house down. That's what they explained to me and, honestly, I believe them. Please, give them an opportunity to speak for themselves!"
Ogbonna held his breath while the bandits appeared to deliberate amongst themselves and watched two of them stand and walk out of the room. Where were they going? Were they still going to hurt them, even after he pleaded for their innocence? He closed his eyes and prayed until he felt a hand on his shoulder. He opened his eyes to find that the two had come back, only this time with Marus in tow, and grinned. Oh, thank goodness, he was okay! Honestly, if his hands had been untied, he would've wrapped his arms around Marus and squeezed. But, sadly, his hands were bound with rope and he could only gaze at him like a happy Raptrix.
"Marus, you have no idea how happy I am to see that you're okay!" He cried, waving his bound hands about in his lap. "I've done my best to explain everything about what happened, but I'm not sure if they believe me. Maybe you can explain things to them? Like how your mother was upset about your lover and all that? Please?"
The hybrid shaman looked embarrassed by Ogbonna's words and instead, turned his attention to the group of four. Ogbonna couldn't quite tell if Marus' next series of motions were that of anger or simply commandeering in nature, but when he saw the bandits move to untie the group of four and Marus embracing his lover, he let out a sigh of relief. Soon, he was untied and permitted to stand as well, much to the relief of his hands and feet, and quickly joined the others on the other side of the house. For a moment, everyone seemed happy, including the bandits, until everyone's eyes fell upon Marus. Something he'd said had made the rest of the group pause and, some, go wide eyed. What happened? Everything should be resolved now, right? Ogbonna had convinced the bandits to untie them, Marus had his lover, and everyone should be going home now, so... Why was everyone looking so unhappy?
"... What's going on?" He asked, his eyes darting around the now combined group. "Are we okay or not? What's the matter?"
It wasn't until Marus burst into tears that Ogbonna began to piece things together. Marus' father wasn't present in the huddle when he had been present the night before. Had the bandits killed Marus' father before they woke up? Ogbonna felt his heart drop into his stomach. The next hour was spent consoling Marus and convincing him to travel back to Mez, which, to Ogbonna's understanding, he refused to do until the bandits would give up whatever was left of his father's body. Then, the group of six, now counting Marus and Ogbonna, were chased from the safe house and left to wander down the mountain again. Ogbonna watched the faces of the group closely while they walked and sighed. They had wanted to fight the bandits over the murder, but were severely outnumbered and sore from their bindings. However, Ogbonna was sure that this wouldn't be the last time that these two groups would meet, and he hoped that Marus avenged his father in the future. For now, it was time to head home and regroup until that opportunity arose.
They passed the place where they'd left Marus' mother before and weren't surprised to find that she had gone, but were none-the-less discouraged. She had orchestrated an entire web of lies and destroyed a village, all for the sake of keeping her son away from his lover. There was no doubt in Ogbonna's mind that she'd be back, but hoped that her family would catch up to her first and deal with her before she could cook up another mess for poor Marus to deal with. He didn't understand what sort of mother could do such horrible things to her child and thanked Bergchi that he had a mother who was as sweet as she was sane. Along the way to Mez, Ogbonna lead the group to where Marus' mother had set up her camp and found that most of it had been packed up already. All that was left for them to find was the remnants of a campfire, a handful of arrows, and an abandoned bindle sack. She'd been here at some point after the battle, which meant she could be anywhere in Sauti by now. Ogbonna hoped, for the sake of them all, that she hadn't gone back to Mez and made a scene, and turned his attention to the bindle sack.
"Oh, you're kidding me!" He exclaimed, catching the attention of the group behind him. "She had my gauntlets all along, but they're damaged! What a witch!"
