Sebastien had just wanted to go for a nice, peaceful walk. Really. He hadn't been looking for any trouble or for anything to tame, but lately he seemed to have been running into an inordinate amount of wild creatures. Nature was good to clear your head, hot and dry though it may be in Oba, and all sorts of things had been going on lately; Naevius returning, his 'promotion'... well, really only those two things, but they were an incredible couple of events. He was in the best mood he'd been in for a while, and then there was the shouting. At least this time it wasn't screaming. It reminded him more of the incident with the fistfight in town than the time a death-portal opened up on the compound. That was good, at least.

Being the sort of man who was unable to completely ignore the distress of others, he followed the sounds just to the edge of town. An older Oban man and what might have been his wife were standing by the road, fretting. The man was shouting at something, holding his arm out in front of the woman as if protecting her. With an arched brow, Sebastien drew closer. Then he saw them, a trio of quhar in the clearing beyond, standing between the older couple and a young family armed with a few baskets of food. A picnic? Sebastien had been on those as a little one. In fact, the child clinging to its mother seemed about the same age he had been. Of course, they hadn't been unlucky enough to catch the back end of a quhar battle of horn-envy. The two males were snorting and stomping, facing off while a female watched half-minded from nearby. The young father out in the field was trying to be tough, puffing his chest out and hooting at the quhar occasionally while standing far ahead of his family. He couldn't blame the guy, it was nature, but when the kid picked up a pebble to toss, Sebastian threw up a hand.

"WOAH, WOAH! You don't wanna do that!" The last thing they needed was for the quhar to focus on the family rather than its opponent. The older man turned, startled, and didn't say anything at all. He didn't have to. "I work at the king's compound," Sebastien said quickly, "I could try to help."

"By all means," the man said, gesturing out into the field. Sebastian nodded and walked at a normal pace toward the beast-battle, trying to not distract the quhar's attention (he didn't think he would) but confident that he could be of some help. Fights broke out on the compound sometimes and you had to stop them before anything got damaged.

Finally, when he was near enough to be effective but far enough to not be gored, he let out a loud "HUP! Haa" and cracked his whip. One of the quhar turned, and so he did it again. With the attention drawn away, he was able to gesture to the young family. "Go! Slowly!" He never took his eyes off of the quhar, but he could see the family in his periphery hesitating a moment and then heading in a wide berth back toward the older couple. One of the quhar, though, had decided to charge. He watched it tense and lunged out of the way after it took its first step, then whipped it on the flank as it passed. The other quhar gave a loud cry but didn't make any move, so Sebastian went after the first, whipping first the air and then it, and when he saw the annoyed twitch of its hide and saw it begin to back up, he thought he had won. Never turning fully from the other beast, Sebastian backed the first back toward the wilds. It ran off with a final crack and he returned for the second.

Sebastien turned to the second quhar and gave it a good "hup!" Once again the mouthy creature yelled its displeasure. It was bigger, but Sebastien was armed and quhar were generally gentle beasts. This one did not seem so keen on another fight so soon, but that didn't mean it wanted to stand down in front of a pretty bovine lady. At least Sebastien thought the female was a decent specimen, but he wasn't entirely up-to-date on quhar trends. He cracked his whip again and the quhar took a step back and threw its head up one last time, bellowing straight from the gut. One more crack and a shout and the quhar turned and began jogging away. Sebastien could see it reasoning with the situation when it turned. The female was still there, but the other male? He was nowhere to be seen. Was he hiding? The great beast turned its head left and right. No, he wasn't hiding. He blinked at the female and began to approach cautiously, giving a pleased grunt. When nothing came bursting across the way to tackle him, he settled in with his new lady love.

The beast charmer chuckled and shook his head, then turned to head back toward the road. To his surprise the family was still standing there, watching.

"Thank you!" the older man sad, holding his hand out for a shake. Sebastien took it, a smirk crawling across his face.

"It was nothing. Really."

"No, thank you," the young woman said, shifting the child on her hip. Sebastien gave a polite bow of the head and waved as he began away.

"You have a good day, now." Hopefully free of any more of nature's wild intrusions.
