Nadia had been debating over the number she wrote down once she had gotten home. It had been a couple of days, since she had last seen Mont Blanc. And for good reason.
She was terrible with dating. Anything with dating. With Elzo and Eve it was easy. She just...slipped into their beds and their lives. Eve much easier. They went to school, had since forever. Elzo had been cheerful and inviting.
She had been content with the lovers she had already, she felt selfish for even thinking of others sometimes. But they did not bind her to them, and she did not bind them to her. It was, as long as they were comfortable, good arrangement.
So the roundabout went back to dating. Dates. Planning those things. She sucked at planning things. She was a go with it.
Why was she even stressing? It was just a boy. She had plenty of boys. She was a confident young woman.
Her call to Lorne though would seem like a teenage girl giddiness. She waited, her heart racing.

Lorne had spent the last few days trying to distract himself - reading, walking, patrolling as Mont Blonc, even cooking - only to wind up staring continiously at his phone. At first, he was pretty sure he was teasing her about whether or not she'd call. It took about two hours for serious doubt to begin to set in. How stupid must he had sounded? There was no way she was going to call. She probably thought he was awkwardly trying to wiggle his way into a date when she'd just been messing around - which he definitely hadn't been. Maybe he should have specified that he meant hanging out. Like, as friends. Definitely as friends.
Oh god, she was probably laughing with friends about how she made the stupid page all red and got him all worked up and then the loser actually gave her his number. Oh god, what had he done?
... was she really not going to call? She'd seemed so sincere, and she'd told him her name. If it was even her name. She definitely wasn't going to call. He didn't even know why he kept checking. He flipped his phone over on top of his desk for what was probably the fifth time that day, determined to ignore it as he tried to return to reading. Call of the Wild. He'd read the same section about the dogs making their beds in the snow over and over for the past half an hour.
Then, abruptly, his phone began to ring. He yelped, dropped the book, and then lunged for the phone. He nearly dropped it as he flipped it over to see the number. Unknown number. Lorne picked up and answered as smoothly as he could: "Hello?"
-- what if it wasn't even her number?! It could be spam for all he knew! Telemarketers!

She recognized his voice for that brief moment. It was one word really, but she was pretty sure it was him. She had another moment of a pause, and her finger hovering over the disconnect button. It was rude, and it was the cowards way out. She was no coward! Not to anybody!
"Hello?" Her voice didn't sound super giddy, and she would hope it sounded smooth and lanquid, though she didn't feel much of that. "Is Lorne there?"
There was another long pause.
"This is Nadia, A....friend of his?" He had mentioned a male roommate. He might've given her a home phone rather then a cell phone.

When he heard a female voice at the other end of the line, his spirits soared. It sounded like her, right? - no one ever sounded totally the same on the phone but it definitely sounded like her didn't it? He opened his mouth to respond, but he felt himself go tongue-tied, flustered before it even started. He'd been thinking so much about whether or not she'd actually call that he hadn't exactly given a lot of thought to what he was going to say when she did!
Then, she said her name, and he swore his chest constricted. God, what was he even so nervous for? - what didn't he have to be nervous for?? "H-hey, " he sputtered out, and resisted the urge just to faceplant against his desk. Instead, he took a deep breath and pushed on, "He is! - I mean, it's me! I'm him. Oh mon Dieu... " he groaned, pushing his bangs away from his face and cringing. "S-sorry, lemme try that again. Nadia, hi!" She was definitely going to hang up on him.

There was a long pause while Lorne did his thing, Nadia actually smiling at the phone. He couldn't see it of course, but it wasn't hard to imagine the blushing red of his face and the anxious look he would wear, as if what he said somehow embarrassed him?
She waited for him to settle.
Waited a little more.
"Was that french handsome?" She chuckled over the phone, "Are you murmuring sweet french words at me?" She laughed a little.
"Are you free today Lorne?"

Somehow, magically, she'd stayed on the line. It really was his lucky day, wasn't it?
If there was any doubt that it was her, it was definitely her. He laughed softly, embarassed, resting his elbows on the desk and cupping his cheek with his free hand. "S-sorry... " There had to be something better to say than a plain old apology. "Maybe." Oh great, because that was a lot better. Two whole words for the price of one.
Was he free today? Lorne stiffened, but smiled, the kind of goofy smile that he was sort of glad his roommate wasn't here to see. What, was he still in high school or what? It wasn't like she was asking him out, so just cool it! "Yeah, actually, I am." As though that was any big surprise. No summer job, no school, no family. Three strikes, he's out. He was about to ask 'why' before he had enough foresight to realize that was a stupid ******** question. "D-do you wanna meet up somewhere, maybe?" Talking in person could be tricky enough; talking on the phone? It was like torture. In this case, musical, charming torture.

Somehow, his nervousness made her feel a whole lot calmer on the phone. As if she wasn't the only one, though hers was less likely to show ever.
His two words made her smile again, as she kicked out her leg and wiggled her toes. It was a nice day, she could probably get away with a dress and sandals. And a giant sun hat. Because she loved sun hats.
"Maybe? Oh handsome, don't keep me in suspense. Tell me all the sexy things in French." She laughed, truly charmed by him.
"Fantastic. I would love to meet up you! How did you read my mind?" First thing she always learned was that it was sometimes better to leave deciding up to the guys. If he wasn't free, then he was interested. Since he was though-
"I was thinking of stopping by the weekend markets if you wanted? Some of the stalls have fantastic fresh fruits and such?" Then she could lead him to some arcades or...where ever he wanted really. Even to a nice sunny spot in the park.

No one should be allowed to get this flustered over a phone call. For his part, though, he tried hard, exceedingly hard, to hide how embarassed he was by humming into the phone as though in thought. "Hmmm... toutes les choses sexy en français, " Lorne tried, unsure whether he was being amusing or just completely uncreative. Either way, he rounded it out with a soft peal of laughter, just to make it sound more natural. "Was that good?"
Read her mind - well, thank god he'd been right, he thought to himself with a sigh of relief and a smile. At least she actually sounded happy to hear from him. - there was no chance she'd take a joke this far though, right?
At the mention of the markets though, if she could have seen the way he lit up. "I would love to! I mean..." He laughed again, rubbing the back of his neck and resisting the urge to cringe. Way to yell into the phone. And here he'd actually sounded relatively smooth a minute ago. "T-That sounds fun. Our fridge is looking a little barren right now, so... where should I meet you?"

Lorne should always be this flustered over a phone call. ALWAYS.
"Oh wow." She might've blushed a little, even though she had no idea what he was saying besides...sexy french? wait a minute......."Did you just say what I actually asked you to say? Like literally?" THERE WAS A REALLY LONG PAUSE followed by what sounded like the phone being set down.
If he listened carefully there was a crack of pleasant giggles before she grabbed it again.
"Okay handsome, Don't sound so excited over there." She played with things around her house, "How about we meet around 1ish in front of the town square? The market is spread throughout there and the town so we'll have plenty to look around." She tapped a finger to her lips, "How about next to the bakery then? I believe there is only one day in the town square. Does that sound okay?"

Oh crap. She'd caught him. - but he could totally play it off as a joke, see he laughed before, and if he said, "Maaaaybe?" Only it would probably be better if he said it like he was teasing her instead of sounding like he wasn't sure what he was saying in his inherited language. The silence was deafening, and he felt himself start to panic, ready to offer an explanation when - the phone had been set down, oh god. She really did finally hang up on him. What sort of idiot completely ruins something like this by --
Oh. Oh. Wait. Real quietly in the background - She was laughing. Right? - oh good. He sighed out his relief again, more audibly than he realized, especially given his face was up against the phone. But there was always a chance she didn't hear it, and this time, he was oblivious he'd even done it.
"S-sorry, " he chuckled softly into the reciever, shrugging his shoulders even though she couldn't have seen it. "I like supporting small markets like that." He could have gone on a whole tangent, but cutting himself short was, for once, the better choice here. "Town square at one by the bakery. You've got it." He was glad she couldn't see the way he flushed when he added, "S-sounds great, I... I'm really looking forward to it. See you soon."

"You got some cheekiness, cutie. I like that." She chuckled again, wondering if he was feeling more free to tease. It was nice to know he would.
"I hope you don't apologize this much in person," She added before humming, "I can't wait to see you then. See you soon Handsome." She added before hanging up.
And then she went through the very complicated process of just what to where and how to play her makeup off.
At around one ish, she strode up to the bakery. It was warm out, so she decided on a very loose and light sun dress, and brown short gladiator sandals. Her hair was let loose and free, tumbling around her shoulders. And she wore a huge white sun hat, the flap flopping over her face. A small purse and she was complete. She had gone for simple cute. It was a hot day, and she wasn't going to actively pursue sex in it.
her gaze roamed for Lorne, assuming he'd be close to his powered counterpart.

Lorne was about to apologize for apologizing so much over the phone, but thankfully she nipped that bud before it ever got the chance to bloom by ending the call. He placed the phone down on the desk, sort of lingering there smiling for a good minute or two before he finally got up to get ready.
Time hadn't done much to change his fashion sense, except he'd drifted away from the Tripp pants and settled towards jeans and more jeans. The eyeliner was less of a thought and more just a part of his routine. He'd sort of short-sightedly left any sandals back in France, along with most of his other things, so combat boots it was, paired with tight black jeans and a thick belt. Lorne thought about a t-shirt, but he had at least one plain sleeveless white shirt, so he went ahead and stuck that on instead. He just threw a short sleeved collared button down over it and left the buttons undone.
The last minute additions? His chain wallet and sunglasses. (Yes. He'd had the foresight to pack sunglasses and not sandals. He was well aware of the irony there.)
All this was done and decided well before noon - and he'd gotten to the bakery by about 12:45, just in case. He tried to fiddle with his phone and seem distracted, and the sunglasses actually sort of came in handy since he was trying to pick the pretty girl in the fuku from the crowds.
Then, finally (already wondering whether or not she would actually come), he spotted someone - maybe - she was waiting outside the bakery too. Like Methone, this girl was also very pretty (and very much out of his league). He took a step forward, then thought better of it and frowned as he eased back. It looked like it was probably her, but - what if it wasn't? Anxiety bubbled up in him, fast and unrelenting. How would he even ask? What was he even doing?
She probably wouldn't know if he turned back and went home now. That probably wasn't even her anyway, and -- he shut his eyes and took a long, deep breath between his teeth, glancing down at his phone. Then, smiled to himself when he realized what a bloody idiot he was.
Moments later, Nadia would recieve one simple text:
Cute hat?

Nadia's phone buzzed and she tilted her hat up to look at the text message. She smiled and wondered if she should mess with him. Perhaps point out someone random to see if he spoke to them!
But she wasn't mean, and she assumed that he would die of shock and never talk to her again. She didn't want to do that. Delicacy was okay too here.
She sent a quick text message back, bringing her eyes up to scan. There wasn't many in front of the bakery, besides a young man who was overdressed she thought for the weather. But the layers seemed fitting, and unlike Lorne, she wasn't shy about going up to strangers.
"Hello..." She came up to the one dressed sort of in layers, and combat boots. "Lorne right? I'm Nadia." She waited for confirmation before she moved in on him. And if it wasn't Lorne well, SHE MADE A NEW FRIEND.FrayedFlower Text to Lorne: Maybe? ;'DD

Overdressed, maybe. But shorts were never really a staple of his wardrobe. He wasn't regretting his decision at all, mostly because this was how he dressed throughout the year anyway. Adaptation, of a sort!
He got the text and smiled, his teeth flashing from between his lips for a split second as he shot back a response; because at least in text he could compose his words a little more.
We say maybe a lot. Do you notice that?
By the time he hit send, he heard her voice, his gaze snapping up from the screen of his phone to meet her eyes. He smiled, sucking in a deep breath as he tried to compose the right words to say. That's right, it's me. Wow you look amazing today!, something to that degree. Except right when the words were about to come out, he choked on something that was probably just air and ended up breaking into a furious dry coughing fit. Mortified, he promptly turned beet red and tried to clap his hand over his mouth to stop it, but it wasn't really stopping and now his eyes were watering and oh god just what had he done in his past life to deserve this, seriously?!

She loved the smile. The minute she saw it she was enarmored to him already.
"We might say maybe a lot." She whispered up at him. "You could always just say yes." She winked before tilting her hat further up.
His coughing fit made her blink and then reach over to pat his back. She had that happen before swallow down through the wrong tube, it was terrible.
She waited till he was down and then rubbed his back some more.
"You okay Handsome?" She patted more, "Want a drink of something?" Her concern was overriding her flirtations at the moment.
