User ImageNo no no.

Tahir shook his head back and forth rapidly. His breathing rate increased dramatically as the stallion began to experience flashes of the past. The past in which he desperately wanted to forget all about. No one should have to remember such distressing sights. Closing his eyes did nothing to dispel the images that he was seeing. Scenes of carnage and death had greeted him and his brothers when they had emerged from a safe area of the herd grounds. All that destruction had totally caused a change to come over Tahir. He was prone to moments of anxiety, moments like right now. The stallion inhaled deeply in an attempt to restore his heart rate to something more normal. Something that he could handle. There was the risk that he could pass out if this technique failed.

Centering his thoughts Tahir concentrated on slowing his breathing down. The white unicorn stallion opened his eyes to a vision of green grass and not one of bloody carnage.

These episodes had continued to plague Tahir as he and his brothers continued to travel together. There seemed to be nothing that worked in order to completely get rid of them. Even the healing touch of his brothers' horns had did nothing to dispel the nightmarish world in which he sometimes found himself. Perhaps it was because they had witnessed exactly what he had seen that they were not able to help.

Tahir found reasons to keep separate from his brothers although he was always within range of their movements. He just did not trust himself to be able to behave accordingly while traveling with them. What sort of unicorn was he if he could not handle being with a group of only five without being constantly afraid?

There was nothing to really distinguish that something was amiss with one white unicorn stallion. That is if you were not one of the five brothers that he journeyed with. If they could see him they would understand what it was exactly that Tahir was experiencing. The stallion’s wide-eyed gaze seemed to stare into the distance as flashes of carnage whipped by in his mind. Jerking to a stop the youngest of six siblings to escape a slaughter gave a quiet moan before once more succumbing to the terror that ensnared his mind. Regressing once more to that moment when they had barely escaped with their lives took an emotional toll on Tahir each and every single time. In his mind he could hear the screams of the rest of the herd. His nose was assailed with the scent of blood. That unmistakable coppery odor hung around like a cloying fragrance that he could not shake free of. None of his senses were spared from reliving the worst time of his young life.

It was always like this. The episodes would come up on him unannounced and Tahir would have to physically separate himself from his brothers in order to keep peace between them. Although it was not the smartest move to make. Each episode consumed his senses completely until it was over. There was danger inherit in sequestering himself to spare his brothers the sight of one of his episodes. Tahir winced at his stiff muscles as he processed his location. The knowledge that his brothers would be nearby somewhere calmed his mind. Tahir grimaced at the taste of blood in his mouth. The obvious conclusion to draw was that he had bit his tongue during the episode he had suffered. The fact that he was injuring himself, albeit unknowingly, was starting to stress Tahir even more so. There was the idea that he needed to find a healer to help him clear the images from his mind that troubled him. There was no doubt that if he continued to experience these flashbacks that he would eventually go mad. Tahir knew that if that were to happen that he would willingly leave his brothers to keep them safe.

If he were to be consumed by the past there was no doubt that he would turn into a monster. The idea thoroughly repulsed him but there was the niggling little voice in the back of his mind that spoke that he was heading down this road. For it was not healthy to be on one’s own when you clearly needed help. Yet that was exactly what he was doing. He was turning into a recluse when his episodes were upon him. Even when they were not he was spending more time apart from his brothers as a precaution. Tahir’s eyes closed briefly as a stray image flickered behind them before he banished it back into his subconscious.

He needed to stay strong.

There was nothing that would point to how troubled his dreams were becoming or how frequently they returned to torment his sleeping mind. It was a bond that all of his brothers shared and not just him but yet in Tahir's case something else could have been at work. The stallion closed his eyes after a moment to banish the specters that refused to leave even now that he was awake. The grisly scenes of carnage never really allowed Tahir any free moment in which he could relax. It had been like this for many turns of the moon as he traveled with his brothers. Lately though he felt as if something had changed; the only thing that it could have been was Mnemosyne. She was the one thing in his life that was now different.

After meeting the mare Mnemosyne though the stallion found that her presence in his life kept some of the worst images at bay. Was it just because he had found someone that did not know of his past that perhaps it lessened the "exposure" or was it because the mare was a healer? Tahir was not sure anymore. All he knew was that he was ever grateful for the mare's continued presence in his life. Tahir was not sure if she completely understood what it was that ailed him but she asked no questions. There was a calming and quiet demeanor that the mare exuded that helped the stallion ground his mind in reality. Perhaps with Mnemosyne at his side, or at least nearby he could truly begin to heal his fractured spirit and thus begin to make peace with what happened in the past.
