Callum had listened to his grandmother's pleas to stay closer to home for the most part. He still ventured out into the grand forests among the brightly hued trees with others with the Shifter's who knew invisible trails as if they were veins in their very arms. It was because of them that he was slowly learning what it meant to be a Shifter, and how one was supposed to be. The moon was a living, thriving entity that called to him as if he were one of it's children. Callum had always felt the connection, and now...now he knew why.

The closer they came back to his home settlement the more his traveling group had split off. A few went to the South, others going North and the final, an older woman, took a path West to see a newborn grand-daughter. It was all very charming to Callum. Here he had made a name for himself. Not every Shifter he spoke to was as welcoming as the view he spent time around, but just having what little friends he had was a great boon to the lad.

Callum stretched his arms above his head as he walked. Keeping his fingers interlaced, the boy leaned back and gave a contented sigh when his back popped. His entire body ached, but in a good way. An unusual way. Callum was covered in bruises, scraps and abrasions, the brightest being a black eye. How he was going to explain that one to Gran he hadn't a clue.

With her plans for travel moved up considerably she wanted to find Callum and let him know of her plans. After all, he had offered to travel with her. However, since she already had someone she could travel with she had a favor to ask of her second brother. Ming'we did vaguely wonder if Cal would be mad at her for what she was going to ask. The thought made her bite at the inside of her cheek in worry.

"Surely he won't be that upset.. he'll understand." The blonde often wondered if she worried over nothing when it came to Callum and Minga.

Callum found a fairly comfortable spot to rest just outside of the settlement. He could hear the voices of others, which was nice considering his hatred of being on his own, but the lad was too tired to walk much further without resting. His legs were already burning from the effort. Despite his bumps and bruises Callum was obviously filling out. It wasn't much, just a subtle change, but there was meat on his bones that wasn't there before.

It still felt weird to him to eat so much, but Callum wouldn't deny the energy it gave him. He would have liked to have had a couple bits of fruit right now, but he would settle with his spot. The hybrid leaned back against the trunk of a rather small tree, stretching his legs out before him with a tired sort of satisfaction.

While en route to Callum's Grandmother's house she came upon someone with their legs laid out. Since all she could see were the legs she chewed a bit nervously on her inner cheek. Hopefully this wasn't someone that would attack her for her Alkidike blood. Giving a rough sound as she cleared her throat she did her best to catch the person's attention. "Uhm, excuse me..?" She drew nearer and leaned to the side so that she could peer around the tree at them. However, the closer she got the more the body became familiar in a way. Blinking Ming'we moved even closer before she noticed who it was. "Callum?" Why was he out here? More importantly why did he have bruises and a black eye? Letting her pure blue eyes go wide she seemed to fret a little over him. "Cal what happened? Nine winds, are you alright?"

"Hmm..?" Callum opened his eyes, expecting to see a stranger looking for directions or a hand out. What he wasn't ready for was his friend and all of her questions. For a full minute Callum looked at her like a spitorog with an unblinking stare until he finally gave a guilty, so-totally-not-covering-something-up smile.

"What, this? Oh yeah, totally fine." Callum tried to wave off her concern. "It's not as bad as it looks; trust me. Just a little bruising." The shifter-hybrid sat up a little straighter, and had to grit his teeth to avoid a hiss as his bruised muscles fought back against him. He tried to play it off as smooth as possible.

When he played it off she narrowed her eyes at him. Soon her hands were on those curvy hips of hers and she was shaking her head. "Cal, don't you lie to me." But that was the extent of her anger as she simply moved to kneel closer to him. With long slender fingers Ming'we tried to see how badly her friend was bruised; poking and prodding to see how he reacted. There was a better way to do it but he'd asked for it.

The uneasy edge to Callum's smile wore off to show a rather put off frown. "I'm really not lying, Ming. It's not as bad as it looks; nothings broke, so it could be worse." He knew he'd upset her and it made him squirm like the guilty child he was at heart.

Although, he really did squirm when she poked his bruises. Callum tried to avoid those prodding fingers by leaning on his hips, but it wasn't enough to dodge them without giving himself away. Finally he let out a noise between a hiss and a groan before putting his face in his hand. "Okay, so it's bad. It's still nothing that won't heal with a few days rest, though, so there's no need worrying about it."

Ming gave a dissatisfied hum. Still she didn't stay mad at him for long. She instead moved him so that he could lean against her rather than the tree. "Don't lie about injuries, Cal. You're like a brother to me so I worry whether you like it or not." Ming'we adjusted a little so that her legs weren't trapped beneath her and wouldn't fall asleep. "Do you need to see a healer?"

Whooooooo late tag!

He didn't need to be told when to move. Once Ming was settled, Callum slowly shifted so that he was leaned up against her. Her warmth was only second best to the soft surface his body could rest against.

"I like when you worry about me." He turned his eyes to look at her, and gave the smaller hybrid a genuine smile. "It means you care." Callum didn't get a lot of that in his life, and while he never meant to make anyone worry over him, it was relieving all the same. It showed him that he was generally cared for.

He shook his head. "I'll be fine, just...don't tell Gran? She's been on edge lately, what with the rumors and attacks...and me. I've decided to fight, Ming. Gran doesn't like it, though. She's sure I'll end up with a sword in my gut, but I can't just sit back."

She chuckled slightly. "Of course I care." Ming played with Callum's hair as he leaned against her. She found amusement in it as she twisted a lock around her finger, potentially making a knot. "I won't tell anyone, but try to be more careful." With her friend telling her that he was going to fight she looked at the ground thoughtfully. Ming'we wasn't sure how she felt about it. Since he was like a brother to her this brought on some anxiety. Still, she supposed he would feel the same about her if she said she was going to learn to fight. "My crazy brother wants to fight. Well that is something.. Is it so you can get a girl's attention?"

Callum ran his fingers over the markings on Ming's legs. It always amused him that the Alkidike's seemed to trade crystals for patterns, when they seemed to be the tougher species. The soft spirals and curls on Ming's thigh didn't seem the least bit threatening to him. Callum might have been biased, though.

"No promises. I really suck at this." He tried to play it off, but his tone was a little sarcastic. It was so foreign on his tongue that Callum scrunched up his brows. They loosened a minute before grinning at Ming'we, "Why, dear sister, are you concerned I'm going to pass on trying to win the heart of a fair maiden? Ye of little faith." He shook his head a little. "There is a girl, though...not like that, but she's just...She's a hybrid like we are and I've seen the way people treat her. It isn't right; it's not our fault we're like this. She can fight for herself, but some of us can't so I just thought if I could help then maybe things might be okay."

As Callum traced the markings on her thighs she listened to what he said. Ming'we could understand him wanting to help defend everyone that was like them. "I can't say I am thrilled at the idea of my brother's with females, but.. I might be able to deal with it." She half joked with him on the matter. Ming was jealous when her sibling's attention was given so fully to someone other than her. The romantic attention could be given away to whomever, but the general affection and company she wanted to hoard. "I want to use a crossbow myself.. So perhaps fighting just runs through us?" Or maybe it was helping.

Callum laced his arm around her waist and held Ming close. "Anyone who gets close to me has to go through you first." There was no way anyone would come between Callum and his family. Well, his chosen family. His biological family had different opinions on the matter.

"It's that Wind blood." Callum smirked. "We were wild from the start, and now it's just being channeled into something productive." Tilting his head, he looked into her eyes. "Crossbow, huh? Why not a bow, like the Alkidikes?" He didn't ask the question to be cruel or prodding. Callum often wondered what life was life with that sort of heritage.

A laugh came from her. "Better not tell them that, they might try to hurt me." As Callum hugged her she did her best to look at his bruises and make sure they didn't need any medical treatment. A salve or something would be needed later to help them heal faster but that could wait.

"I want to be like my wind mother and follow an earthling path." Not to mention she always felt too pressured by her Alkidike family. "Guess I can't let go of my wind blood, huh?" A grin formed on her lips.
