It began like any other day. Chores and chores and endless chores, which eventually had Joy heading for the training fields to blow off some steam. The training dummies were going to be beaten around a lot. Unless Joy found someone else to engage with. In the meantime, she was gonna keep swinging at these dummies.baby_gwing reply whenever you have the time :3

Even if Nellie had yet to recover fully and regain her top form, the Mist could acknowledge at the very least that she was making headway with her recovery. The random episodes of vertigo and lightheadedness from the concussion were getting less frequent now. The superficial scratches on her face scabbed over to reveal hypopigmented scars that Niffy had taken the initiative of reassuring her would eventually revert to her normal skin tone with time. Not that that was her main concern at any point in time but it was still a good thing to know that something like that wasn't going to possibly get in the way between her and Cain.
Still on light duty till the end of the week, she completed her work assignment for the day with little difficulty, figuring that she might as well hit the training field to practice with Niffy for a bit lest her body got too used to the period of inactivity. When she reached the training ground, she noticed that someone, a young huntress, like herself was already there way before everyone else, deciding that she would approach her tentatively before coughing lightly to let her know that she was coming up from behind her.
"Haven't seen... around before."

The shovel was doing not as well as Joy liked. She was aiming horribly and this was getting her wound up and not in the good way. Even her partner was getting irritated by his human's dismal performance.
Do better. the reedy voice snarled.
So when she raised both arms in what was supposed to be a vicious slash, the sudden voice startled her and had her missing yet again. And worse, the swing unbalanced her right onto the ground with an ungraceful thump.
"Punyeta naman o" she grumbled through a mouthful of grass and soil. She pushed herself up, brushing her face clean before finally facing the person who'd both caused and witnessed her rather embarrassing display. "Hi there. I promise I don't normally wipe-out that bad." she said with a small, wry grin.

There were a great many things that might happen because of what Nellie did. But witnessing the Moon trainee missing the training dummy entirely with the shovel that was her weapon and then falling face first onto the grass was admittedly far from her original intention and further down on the list of things that she had anticipated possibly happening. The fact still remained though that what happened had happened and she quickly moved to help Joy up after the initial awkward silence, a panicked look on her face as she apologised immediately for causing the other huntress to lose her focus.
"S-Sorry! Nellie didn't mean to startle... like that!" She took a step back to give Joy a little more space, looking her over with a concerned expression.
"Is everything okie?"

Joy accepted the help with much more grace than her earlier attempt at striking the dummy. But that wasn't really too hard to accomplish and really the only way she could top that embarrassment was to somehow cause the woman helping her up to also lose her balance. If that had happened, the moon trainee wouldn't have been surprised if she ended up flat on her back with another body on top of her. And not in the fun way either.
Luckily for both their dignities, Joy got to her feet without much difficulty. "'Lax lang, 'lax lang." She assured with a warm, if slightly sheepish, smile. "Nellie, was it? I'm Joy. Sorry you had to see something like that. Obvs not one of my best, kahit wipe-out pa man din." She was unconsciously slipping in and out of Taglish, a sure sign of nerves.
Do it again. Her weapon hissed.
Joy ignored him, instead gesturing to Nellie, "Hey, uh, you... Did you wanna have a go at the dummies?"baby_gwing Sorry for the delay @ 3@ my internet sorta just gave out on me last weekend.

"Lax lang?" Was that some sort of slang or another language altogether? Nellie nodded when her name came up in the conversation, returning Joy's smile with one that very much mirrored hers as she apologised profusely again. "It's okie really. It only happened because Nellie came up from behind and startled Joy. Sorry about that."
She glanced at the dummies when the other trainee asked if she wanted to train with them. That was her original intention really but that was because she wasn't expecting to run into anyone on the training field at this time of the day. Now that Joy was here, she supposed it wouldn't hurt to have a sudden change of plans.
"Would Joy like to spar with Nellie though?"

She blinked, then realized "Ah s**t, I'm doing it again." She chuckled sheepishly as she dusted herself off and wiped at the grass sticking to her clothes. "English isn't really my first language so sometimes I end up mixing the two. And don't worry about, I should've been on my toes, y'know?"
She shouldered the shovel, "Never know when we'll get sent someone on a mission, yeah? The request was met with a big, if somewhat brittle, smile. "Sure! Dunno how I'll fare but I'm always game."baby_gwing Go for the first strike! biggrin

"Oh? What language was that supposed to be?" Nellie smiled, giving Joy another look over to see if she could pick up anything that might hint at her ethnicity or where she came from based on her skin tone, body build, facial features etcetera. Nope. She hadn't a clue at all.
"That's true." She gave a nod to acknowledge the point that the other trainee had made, summoning the gauntlets that were Niffy and taking a few steps back before charging and swinging a fist at the Moon. "Nellie's not that great either but practice ought to make perfect?"

"Err, it's Tagalog," Joy answered, rolling her shoulders as she stepped back to give the other woman room to summon their partner. When the other trainee charged at her with fists flying, Joy brought her shovel up to block. She felt the strike hit the flat of the weapon and for once, Joy tried to give herself the advantage of distance.
"Haha! The version I heard was practice makes permanent," with a grunt she tried to shove the other woman away.

Get in close to attack. Pull back to recover and defend as needed. Nellie recalled what she was told to do by Peyton a while back, a determined look on her face as she closed in on Joy again to aim a punch at her torso.
"Really? Where did Joy get that from?"

Joy saw the incoming gauntlet, twisted her body so the knuckles connected against a shoulder rather than her chest. She might have been wearing a sports bra but that sure as hell didn't mean getting hit in the boob wouldn't hurt like a ********. The shovel was swung low, aiming for the other woman's legs as Joy grunted, "Got it from my old barkada who taught me how to ride a bike.

"Barkada?" The conversation was becoming somewhat distracting for someone new to fighting like Nellie as she tried to pick up her pace in the hope of gaining an edge over Joy. But the Mist tried to keep up with it nonetheless, not at all wanting to come across as rude or snobbish to the other trainee who had agreed to the match-up in the first place. She saw where the shovel was aimed at and quickly hopped a few steps back to try to avoid it, the shovel grazing her shins as she aimed a sloppy uppercut at the other huntress' jaw.

Joy managed to sharply pulled her head back, pausing in her chatter long enough to ensure that as the massive fists grazed her jaw she wouldn't end up biting her tongue off. Unfortunately she overcompensated in her attempt to dodge and ended up falling backwards.
Her arms flung out for support. Yes. Both her arms. Unfortunately she was still holding her weapon. Which mean the entire length of the bladed shovel was roughly and bodily slammed into the other woman. Joy would have thought she would have managed to steady herself but nope. Her sense of equilibrium betrayed her and the rest of her toppled over, crashing her legs into those of Nellie's.
Why hello ground, Joy's back seems to really like you today.

Nellie's eyes went wide the moment she saw Joy fall and flail. She was in too deep. She needed to get back so as to minimise the amount of grievous bodily injury that she was going to sustain if the shovel was allowed to come into contact with her. She realised, to her own horror, that she was too late, a pained cry escaping her as she took the beating with no means of defending herself.
She was even more ill prepared for what followed next, her own balance thrown off entirely as well by Joy's legs that had gotten tangled with hers, causing her to reflexively pull up her arms to brace herself for the fall without realising that her elbow was aimed squarely at the petite huntress who was currently beneath her.

There was the audible "Oof!" as air was forced out of her. It may have been an accident, Nellie elbow-dropping her like they were in an episode of WWF, but it still hurt pretty good. It was mostly reflex in retaliation to such an attack, muscle memory and nostalgia ganging up on Joy's common sense and decency that had her stabbing the butt of the shovel's handle into Nellie's side. It might not have hurt as much if it had been a flat handle. But it wasn't.
