She stood awkwardly as she held her trident. Phaedra had gone in search of someone to teach her how to defend herself. The fact that it was an Alkidike that ended up being her sparring partner was a bit ironic. Of course the leafling had several bruises and cuts all over, but most of them seemed centered along her jaw. Evidence that she had reason to seek out some training.

Maya gave the girl a comforting smile. She had not brought her usual arrows to the training match. Instead all she brought with her were strange sticks with what looked like fluffy balls on the end. This was her way of ensuring that little damage aside from a bruise or two would be the outcome. She had used this technique when trying to teach Teiluj how to fight.

Drawing the string back Maya let the first of her attacks fly. If anything she was hoping the girl in front of her would be fast enough to dodge.

She kept her green eyes on Maya as she drew back and fired an arrow. Phaedra had to admit she was thankful that the woman hod brought practice arrows rather than lethal ones. Once the fuzz ball tipped arrow was released Phae moved to the side as quickly as she could to dodge it. She was surprised to see that it soared past but didn't take the time to celebrate it. She went at Maya with a retaliation, though she made sure to keep the pointed tips of her trident well away from the woman. She'd use the flat prong shafts as her weapon and tap Maya on the shoulder.

Maya smiled when her first arrow was dodged. Wondering how well the girl could keep it up, Maya was a little caught off guard when she rushed at her. Side stepping Maya smirked as she left her foot out intentionally. "A physical fighter running at a distance fighter could prove beneficial you have the chance to startle your opponent. But you also loose surprise."

Taking a couple steps back Maya drew another fluff covered twig from her quiver took aim and once again let her arrow fly. "If you're fighting to the death. Your opponent wont wait for you to recover before attacking again. Don't leave yourself open."

Phaedra took the puff straight to the chest and it was enough force to make her grunt. She understood what Maya was saying though. If it had been a real battle and not simply a spar then another arrow likely would have already been airborne as she'd taken the time to stare at the arrow she'd dodged. The brunette nodded her head in understanding and tried to attack once more.

Maya gave a smile, proud that the girl she was fighting with could learn quickly. It was a good change of pace when it came to other battles she had tried to teach others. "Come come, you're powerful I'm afraid of you hitting me actually." Maya gave a smile as the girl came at her. Bending backwards to avoid the strike. "Not bad but a little off." Maya swung her leg out in order to knock the girl off balance.

A little off was right. She'd missed the Alkidike and caught a leg on the knees which made her stumble some. Phaedra hadn't been quick enough to dodge it, though she had seen it. When she got her footing again she faced the woman and did a counter strike, this time aiming her trident at her opponents side, still keeping the pointy ends well away from her so she did no serious harm.

Maya felt a bit guilty as the girl actually stumbled over her leg. Reaching out Maya was caught off guard as the trident came towards her middle. Only able to dodge it partially Maya stepped back and and laughed at little at her own distractions. The strike had been powerful and well aimed. Had this been a real fight she was sure the injuries would have been alot more than just a scrape across her skin. "Very good!" Maya praised, reaching back to draw another arrow from the quiver.

Placing the puffball into the string Maya let the arrow fly.

Since she was praised Phaedra grinned. Of course that took away from her focus to when Maya set another puffball arrow at her she got hit. This time it hurt just enough to make her wince. After that she went after the Alkidike with another strike, she was trying her best to at least cause Maya to stumble as she had done.

Maya wasn't so easily thrown off balance, and certainly didn't fall for the same trick twice. "Careful." Maya shouted as she side stepped the girl extending her hand to send her a little off balance. "Balance is key to a fight. I had to learn that the hard way."

She missed again! Phae couldn't believe it! When Maya reached out to cause her to lose her balance again the brunette blinked and fell back onto her bottom. "I really need to work on my skills don't I?" She laughed at how she was basically on her bum yet again, though she was thankful this Alkidike wasn't out to kill her. "I give." To show she was serious she lifted both hands and showed no weapons. Her trident lay next to her on the ground. "My body won't take another arrow or fall. Too many bruises already." Despite her words she was grinning.

Maya reached out with her hand offering to help pull Pheadra to her feet. "You're powerful don't get me wrong. If you can get your balance under control. You will be a formidable foe even I would not want to go up against." The Alkidike smiled come, if you need healing my daughter is skilled in that kind of magic.
