Jordan waited aboveground, a comfortable distance back from the entrance of the cave, still strung tight with tension and relief and the need to prove to himself that this was true, this was real, that he wasn't dreaming again. It felt like he was awake. There was nothing surreal, nothing out of the ordinary about today; nothing, except that Andy had woken up, and he hoped desperately that this would stay real. He wasn't sure how he'd cope if it wasn't.

Jordan, Ferros said worriedly, and Jordan sighed and tried to relax again. I know. I'm trying, he answered.

Andy came up and out of the cave, a bemused look on his face. "Jordy...it's a dog." Rex was quiet in his mind, save for a low growling - he didn't know Jordan. Andy soothed him as he came before his brother.

Counter to Jordan's wont that the day not be surreal and to be ordinary, Andy was finding everything both infinitely surreal and most assuredly unordinary. He'd stopped being a pod person, remembered some weird-a** s**t, reunited with his big brother and now had a freaking zombie dog shotgun.

"And a shotgun."

"Shotgun? Awesome, you got ranged," Jordan said, and resisted the urge to sweep his brother into a hug again, clapping him on the shoulder instead. "Introduce me? You can summon any time you want, just concentrate on bringing them back, although don't do it inside the complex without a reason. Manners, you know." He laughed a little, then huffed a short sigh, said more quietly, "Sorry. I -- I've missed you, kid."

"Tia Rosa would never have approved." Andy? With a shotgun? Hell no. But he was pleased, so pleased that he was grinning and couldn't stop doing so. "Suuure...uh, gimme a sec." Because in theory this was easily done but he was excited and also stressed from the day's events and it took a bit to calm himself enough to summon Rex into his hands.

"Missed you too, Jordy." With a gentle caress to the stock so he could distract himself from getting all teary-eyed again, Andy brought his slightly growling partner to rest. "His name's Rex."

GRRrrrrrrrr....RRrrrr...Rex's Andy! "I don't think he's very bright."

"She'd flip." Jordan snorted, but sobered again a moment later. He'd have to tell Andy that they were both "dead," but ... later. Not just yet. "Nice," he said approvingly, looking the shotgun over and nodding. "Nice to meet you, Rex. I'm your hunter's brother. Dog monster?" he asked Andy.

"This is Ferros," he added, and held up his right hand to show Andy the heavy ring on his index finger. The red stone set into the ring lit briefly. "Iron dragon, heavy war hammer."

"Zombie dog monster, I think. I got...a flash of some guy. It was weird." He shrugged and patted the shotgun again, smiling like any boy with his dog might have smiled for a moment before allowing the weapon to return to it's unsummoned shape while a mental image of Andy, Jordy and Rex playing ball crept into his brain.

"Obsessed with playing ball, too." Andy peered at his brother's ring curiously. "Nice to meet you, Ferros." War hammer? AWESOME.

"The weapons were Halloween creatures before becoming weapons," Jordan explained. "Most of them have more humanoid forms as well, so you might've been seeing what he looked like that way." The smile on Andy's face was reassuring; his brother didn't seem to have bonded to a hostile or overly aggressive weapon. It hadn't been something he'd seriously worried about, but he was relieved not to have to.

He moved away a short distance to give himself space, grinning. He was proud of Ferros, and he liked to watch the surprise when someone saw the weapon for the first time, and he felt a little like he'd always felt when he brought something really awesome home to show Andy. "Keep back a bit, he's not an indoors weapon," he said, and summoned. The ring dissolved in a swirl of metallic motes, resolidified in his hand as the massive hammer, and he was used to how Ferros looked, but in a way it was like seeing him all over again: the pattern of lava cracks that twined around the hammer's haft and barrel, the stylized metal claws that grasped the hammer's head, the steam vents and the heavy spikes and chains.

I am magnificent, Ferros said proudly.

You're magnificent, Jordan agreed.

"Did they become weapons by choice, or is this something Hunters get to do? Catch Halloween creatures and turn them into something useful to us?" Andy thought about this a bit, and about the flash of humanoid Rex he'd seen - definitely the sort of guy that only did the things he wanted to do, otherwise... It was interesting. And also weird to know that his weapon had once been some guy, with probably some sort of weird Halloween-creature life...had there been siblings? Had Rex been in love? Married? Part of a harem?

Not questions he wanted to think too heavily on, Andy had a feeling Rex wouldn't - or couldn't? - answer them well the way he presently was.

Ferros. Was. AWESOME. Seeing his brother's summoned weapon made Andy's eyes light up like he was seeing his favorite game come to life...which, maybe he was. "Holy s**t. That's --" No, HE Andy corrected himself, "Sorry, HE is awesome. Wow. Seriously gorgeous and cool. Damn Jordy, you really went big, didn't you?"

Did he want to touch? Yes, he wanted to touch. But he wouldn't...and not least in part due to the way Rex started growling and throwing pacing images and flashes of upset and malcontent and worry in his head. Shhh, don't worry Rex, you're awesome too. I wouldn't trade you.

This seemed to calm the zombie dog some.

"It works more smoothly if the weaponization is voluntary," Jordan said, sobering a little. He was still ambivalent about the process in general, and he wasn't about to hide that; being a Hunter meant working in some very morally grey areas. "Ferros says he thinks he volunteered, but part of the process strips away most of their memories. They retain some impressions and emotions, some basic knowledge about their world."

He grinned proudly, satisfied by Andy's reaction. "He started out about a third of this size. Then he got bigger a couple of times." He patted Ferros's barrel fondly, then desummoned again. "Pain in the a** fighting in close quarters, but we can lay down some serious damage with a little elbow room to work with."

Andrew just nodded a bit, because it really did make sense that it went easier for those involved if they 'went willingly' into a weapon state, or whatever it was that actually happened. He set a query to Rex and was answered with wagging tail and brightness. "I think Rex did too? He seems awfully happy about it." But why? No Rex, you don't need to answer, I'm talking to myself here.

Rex got his Boy! Andy's Rex! Rex's Andy! ...Ball?

Yes ball. It would take little to no effort to throw a mental ball for his partner while still maintaining a decent conversation with Jordan...and Ferros. "Absolutely gorgeous though, the lava like-lines and the spikes...Christ but he's huge! Do you think Rex'll ever be like that?" Not huge the way Jordan's hammer was, but...impressive. Intimidating. Andy was curious about the different stages the weaponized Halloweener's went through and said as much.

"Some weapons seem to be more content than others. Ferros and I have a good bond." That reminded Jordan of something. "It might take a little while to get used to having him there constantly, but you will get used to it. It's actually gotten weird and kind of uncomfortable to be alone in my head, for the occasional brief times that happens. It's smart to keep the totem -- um, the non-weapon form -- on you or in the same room at all times. You can summon and desummon without having to touch him, but there's a range on that, and if your weapon's out of hearing range he's also probably out of shield range."

Ferros preened at the compliments, and Jordan laughed. "You're inflating his ego now. Rex will probably go through a couple of changes as your bond develops. It takes some time, and usually it happens around the time when you get promoted, I've noticed. It's not exact, but it's probably something to do with gaining skill or competency." He shrugged one shoulder. "The way a weapon changes is individual to the weapon. They usually get bigger and sometimes more complex, and usually they'll gain another charged skill along with the physical changes. Personally, I think it has something to do with how the hunter and weapon work together and what both need." He silently consulted with Ferros as to whether they should mention the other version of themselves where Ferros had been different, and decided not to. This was a massive enough load of information to deal with without mentioning other worlds that contained other versions of themselves. Later.

He simply nodded and listened; they were brothers, so there had always been some of the "yeah yeah, whatever you say bro" between them, but not nearly as much as there might have been. Jordan and Andy had been close, so he knew when to listen and take what he was being told seriously. This was life changing and thus extremely important.

Also, cool as hell!

"Yeah, it's...already a bit easier? But it's weird to have someone else in your head all the time." Andy grinned as Jordan spoke of feeling just the opposite; he could imagine himself like that...with Rex such an integral part of him that the lack was jarring. Totem. Interesting. Jordy got a ring...I got an earring. That makes it much easier to keep them close by. He reached up to touch the metal at his ear, smile going a bit softer. He clearly liked his 'dog'.

"There enough room in that head of yours for it?" A jibe, but not meant cruelly. "Be interesting to see a shotgun get all...upgraded. I can't even imagine..." And yet, he was certain it would be cool...and that it would happen. Because Jordan was saying it would. "So basically, I'm a level one hunter right now, but you're like...maxed out?" Putting things in gaming terms made it a bit easier to take and process...Andy was a gamer. Had been. So it made sense.
